Ben Ballmer Theater 1 Character Monologue 2/12/15 ---- Kent’s the name. Andrew Kent. Ya know they say you can live in a city like New York your entire life, and still not have really seen it all. The day ya think that nothin’ can surprise you anymore is the day something catches you off guard. And that goes for everyone, even more for people like me who run a corner store (I get the weirdest customers sometimes). Anyways, I guess that the one thing life has taught me is that people are mostly random and capricious, and that that’s not necessarily a bad thing. It happened one day, when I had just started to open up shop. A man walked in, dressed up all fancy, with a suit and everything, and started lookin’ around the place. After a while, he picked up a bottle of dill pickles and walked to the counter. “What brings you to a run down place like this” I said. “I needed some pickles” he replied. Then he saw my baby in the cradle behind the counter, “Is it just you running this place.” “Yup” I said to him. He dropped a hundred dollar bill on the counter, saying “Keep the change,” and walking right out. Never saw him again. People are pretty strange around here.n
