Here at the Basie Academy, her TVT3 programs have launched our students into commercial stardom.

ROCKIT! ACADEMYThe Rockit! Academy, our resident rock and roll performance program, is helmed by the Rockit! Live Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonpro�t organization. Rockit! runs four seven-week programs per year, where kids aged 8-18 learn a speci�c repertoire of songs supplemented with individual instruction. At the conclusion of their session, as many as forty-�ve young musicians form separate groups to perform live on the Basie’s historic Asbury Park Press stage.

JAZZ ARTS ACADEMYThe Jazz Arts Academy at the Basie is a partnership with Red Bank’s Jazz Arts Project, a non-pro�t arts organization that provides world-class jazz events and music education programs. The Jazz Arts Academy is a year-round comprehensive training program providing real world experience to aspiring teen jazz musicians, producing several dozen events each year ranging from intimate jazz cafe nights to large-scale events at concert halls and festivals. The Jazz Arts Project also provides educational workshops and special programs for youth.

MONDAYSMeisner and Film for Teens and Adults I + IISanford Meisner was a renowned teacher of the technique that now bears his name. His approach, based on bringing the actor to a more instinctive level, is widely respected and involves structured improvisational exercises that build on each other. This TVT3 course is offered in two consecutive 5-week sessions; the �rst focuses on exercises in basic repetition, active listening and moment-to-moment interaction as students learn to improvise personal interpretations of characters from well-known �lms. The second session focuses on independent activity exercises and learning how to analyze character.

Many casting directors’ decisions are based on how auditionees respond when asked to improvise a speci�c scenario. In this TVT3 class, students learn to create unique scenes using improvisational techniques, gaining con�dence as they learn to think on their feet — an essential skill for successful auditions.

In a second �ve-session course, dramatic performance for prime time serials and dramatic �lms will be emphasized. Marketing strategies and audition prep will also be covered. Completion of one prime time TV & �lm class is a prerequisite for the Basie Academy’s Film and Television Actor’s Showcase, where selected students perform scenes on camera for industry guests. This showcase has lead to several students earning representation and work in television shows and movies!

Under direction of the Los Angeles Opera’s Eli Villanueva and musical director Jason Tramm, The White Bird of Poston is set during World War II at a Japanese internment camp, recalling the story of a Japanese teenage girl who forms a bond with a Native American boy. Through their friendship, they help each other rediscover their cultural traditions and history.
The Basie Summer Opera Camp is a two-week, audition-based intensive from August 13 – August 25 from 9:30am–4:30pm daily. For more information,

SpongeBob Squarepants provides the theme for this weekend workshop, which uses a variety of found objects and sponges to create undersea characters and develop a session-ending undersea adventure.
