Mondermoni Beach : Get away from Debraj beach resort(see pic at the bottom) On 4th and 5th of April I have the rarest opportunity of staying in the

Debraj beach resort at Mandermoni along with my 16 years nephew ,septuagenarian mother and my aged sister. I booked two non ACrooms for two days (on 4th and 5th April'10, room no:103,104) atDebraj resort, Mondermoni.

Rule-1:

The Debraj beach resort has given a new dimension to the word'courtesy' in hotel business.

OK, Here is it for your take off and for all the potential tourists atDebraj beach resort Mondermoni......

Day-1 : 04.04.2010 -----We reached the Kontai station right at 09:15 AM. The Debraj pick upcar took well care of us and dropped us at the hotel at 10:30 AM . Wewere broadly welcome at the reception.We were visibly pleased at the courteous reception counter , themanager , the boy of the restaurant..

But there was a huge rush at the reception counter and we were toldto wait on the reception lounge for some time.

Fair enough, lots of people were checking out at that time so weaccepted the delay and we head for the restaurant for taking our breakfast as we set out at 5 AM in the morning and we all werehungry.

11:30 - We were done up with break fast but the rooms were not

ready yet. However, we were offered one makeshift room no at 102and we all got holed up in there.

12:15 - We got freshened up one by one in room no:102.

12:20 - My nephew did not want to spent up valuable time in chasingfor the rooms. So we left for a dip in the sea. The manager told us



to place our order for lunch before going for bath as it was going totake time in the kitchen. So we placed our order for lunch.

13:30 - We came back after dip. We were told that our one room(no:104) was ready for possession. I asked for the other room but theManager asked for some more time.

It became clear to us that the guests were still occupying our allottedrooms (no:103 and 104). However, very soon we were givenpossession of room no:104 .

We had our sumptuous lunch at your restaurant. The restaurant boySh Kalyan was very courteous.

After finishing our lunch after 2PM our second room was finallyallotted to us. In the room my nephew immediately discovered thatthe remote of both the TVs were not working, I discovered that thebathroom door and the balcony door of 104 does not close frominside. The locking pins of these doors were misaligned.My sister discovered that the lock of the main door of room no:103 is

jammed and it always needs key to open from outside. In case thekey is inside and you pulled the room from outside (even when thelock is not latched from inside) the door gets locked.

All these defects were told to the reception and hoped that theywould be attended in no time but .

Rule-2

... in Beach Resort Debraj . a guest is treated like a holy cow onlybefore he is booked and once he is booked a guest is treated like amilking cow only.

How ? here it is...which I knew only after suffering...

At Mondermoni a dingy non AC double bed room costs RS:1320 per day. When I asked why it was so costly. The answer was that all thebeach resorts at Monermoni runs on DG set power.But while booking at Kolkata office I was never told that there is ascheduled load shedding (generator off time from 8:00AM to10:30AM and 4:30PM to 6PM) at the beach resort Debraj. Thescheduled load shedding is one of the many ploys employed by



Debraj group for milking it's unfortunate guests. You will never be toldwhile booking and after booking the very first thing you would noticeis at the reception counter is the load shedding schedule.

This fact is not mentioned anywhere in the booklet or the informationbrochure .......

Rule-3

Welcome to the Beach Resort Devraj, Mondermoni to be cheatedwholeheartedly

Day-2: 05.04.10There was no power from 7AM. My nephew asked the receptionist at9:00 AM and the haughty fellow told him that it was the scheduled

load shading time. I asked why it was from 7AM ? Apt came the replyfrom the haughty receptionist ,' it's a technical snug, there was adiesel shortage in the DG sets' . I understood that every rules of thishotel can be bent for anything. That's why it was no wonder that the11'O clock check in time finally materialized at 2PM.

The haughty man understood that I was not happy with his reply. Thepower came at 10AM.

Rule-4

In Devraj everything comes with extra time. In the evening mynephew ordered for a 'Moghlai Parantha' which came after one after and during the time he had to remind the 'haughty receptionist' threetimes.

Devraj has a good beach front but unfortunately despite we triedhard we could not sit there due to absence of any deck chair. Thoughin the morning I told the haughty men at the reception to place a fewdeck chair at the beach front pedestal but to my utter surprise it was

never placed.

Rule-5 in Devraj: On week days all the guests are just like Tom , Dick andHarry . Devraj never bothers for their requests.



I put the same request to Mr Asit ,the Manager on 5th evening and Ifound four plastic chairs were placed there with no table around. Thechairs were just piled up one above the other, obviously the manmeant us to use our own labor to place it...

For my profession I've been around in all kinds of hotels of this bigcountry of us. Nowhere ever I had to carry a chair on my own in anyclass of hotel. The manager or the care taker or the receptionistrushed always even before I had lifted to offer his kind help but inDevraj even my sister when carried her chair nobody came for help.

Rule-6

In Devraj after booking a guest is only meant to be a cheated.

That evening I was at my room for taking medicine. It was 6PM , Iwas hoping for the light to come in any moment but alas ! it came at6:18PM. However we noticed that the generator had stopped right at4PM that day.

Rule:7

The room tariff is at per with the difficulties faced by other hotels atMondermoni but never expect that the extra tariff does mean extracomfort at per with other hotels.

Day-3: 06.04.2010This is the most memorable day of our stay at Debraj beachResort ,Mondermoni. My train was from 6:30 PM at Ramnagar station. At 12:15 PM I asked the haughty reception guy to pleaseallow us to stay till 3:30 PM as the there was no other guests waitingaround for check in, so our extended stay will not create any extradisadvantage to any other guest. With profuse arrogance he told me

to vacate the room after 2 PM. On my further request he told me thatin case beyond 2PM I've to pay one day extra charge . I was on theverge of loosing my patience and coolly I asked him to book so...

Seeing my stubborn stance he said that in that case the electricitywould not be available then.. I gave him the nod, OK after 2PM wewould accept that fate.



But ... LO... Here is the height of arrogance from Devraj: At 12:15 PMwhile I was shaving , my nephew was in the middle of a TV programthe power supply was stopped.

I asked Mr Asit, the manager and the answer was beyond 12 PMDevraj can extend my stay for free but not the electric supply. Myseptuagenarian mother , my aged sister , my young nephew does notmean anything to them. The reason is simple , We as guests arealready paid up. We are a milking cow now.

Rule-8

In Devraj when you are paid up your fate is doomed. Better leave

fast or get into another hotel for good.

I ordered the restaurant to serve our lunch as fast as possible. I wasin no mood to stay in this lousy resort any longer.

Golden rule:

[ Never ever visit Devraj at Mondermoni and if you have alreadycommitted the mistake never go there on week days. In all probabilityyou would be alone and they will cheat you like anything ]

At 3:25 we left the place. The electricity was restored meanwhile butnot my peace of mind.

It is not far fetched to visualize that the Devraj is not going to stay inhotel business longer. They are already scheduled to be doomed.

However, the beach Mondermoni is superb and you will just fall in

love with it. There are plenty of hotels available here other thenDebraj beach resort.

The best hotel is the Rose Valley . Better stay at rose Valley or getinto any budget hotel but never ever in Devraj.

Conclusion: The beach Mondermoni is only 180 KM from Howrahstation . There are two trains ; one at morning 6:40 AM and the other one at 2 PM. However, there are plenty of busses plying betweenKolkata and Digha, Mondermone is 28 KM before Digha. The beachis absolutely free from crowd and hawkers. The sand is hard andwaves are not rough but don't expect clear water in this part of thesub continent.
