• Reading fiction:– Identify and define elements of fiction

literature:• Character, plot, setting, theme, and

tone– Identify and define elements of poetry:

• Rhyme/rhythm, figurative language– Identify and define elements of drama:

• Acts, scenes, dialogue, stagedirections, characters, plot, setting,theme, and tone

– Read fiction for fun

• Reading non-fiction:– Identify main idea and supporting

details in a reading passage– Analyze and interpret information

from various documents– Distinguish between fact and

opinion in a reading passage

• Writing Skills:– Compose 3-paragraph essays for

different topics and purposes(narrative, descriptive, persuasive,cause/effect, comparison/contrast)

– Incorporate transitional words andphrases in essay
