There are a variety of ways that all members of the MES Cairo Community can get involved. Every student will be scheduled to walk the track during the school day and we encourage parents to join their children’s class walks as scheduled. Parents, alumni and staff can all complete laps of the track by pre-booking a time slot during the school day, or anytime from 8.00am on Wednesday morning until 8.00am on Thursday 22 March 2018. Please email [email protected] to schedule your track time; your slot will be confirmed as soon as the schedule is finalised. We also encourage ‘group walks’ which can include non-MES Cairo friends such as nursery mums and other community group with registration via the above email address. As is the tradition, all laps of the track should generate a contribution to our fundraising campaign for the charity ‘Tawasol’. Their main objective is to provide a safe, nurturing hub for developing children aged 8-16 years who would otherwise be included in child labour activities in slum areas in Cairo. Representatives from this organisation will be participating with us throughout our ’24-HOUR RUN’. We encourage everyone to contribute to our fundraising events by pre-ordering an event T-shirt and cookie on the attached order form. Students may wear the T-shirt instead of regular uniform on Wednesday 21 March 2018, with school PE uniform track pants. Note that the event T-shirt is the only alternative to uniform for the event. Please visit the MES Cairo website at www.mescairo.com and click on the event banner for up-to-date information regarding the event. Students and staff will be on stage throughout the 24-hours with fitness workouts and dance workshops by visiting experts. There will also be a ‘Light up the Night’ walk at 6.30pm and our ‘Cinema Under the Stars’ community event at 7.00pm, to which you are all welcome. Vendors will be selling food items during the movie so bring the family and come join the relaxed atmosphere on the field. Tawasol handcrafts will be sold also; their items are high quality and make excellent gifts. A live web-feed will broadcast the 24-hour event to a global audience at www.mescairo.com as well as television coverage on various cable channels throughout the day. Please note that MES Cairo students cannot participate beyond 9.00pm if not accompanied by their parent. Whilst staff will be on campus throughout the night, they will be too busy with events on the track to supervise students beyond this time. Please make time to come and support this wonderful occasion. We seek to bring the entire school community (past and present) together for this worthy cause and sincerely hope that you will join us. Yours faithfully ___________________ Mrs Nicola Singleton Whole School Principal

All donations from the MES Cairo 24-hr Run will go to Tawasol to support their activities and their purpose to develop children living in underprivileged areas in Cairo. Here is a little more information about the registered charity: Tawasol for Developing Istabl Antar NGO is a registered community school that was founded in 2008 and is located in Ezzbet Khairallah in Cairo. We aim to provide quality services to the residents of slum areas and informal settlements in Cairo (Ezzbet Khairallah/Istabl Antar/Batn el Ba’ara). The school targets two basic human capital development aspects; education and health. Within the educational aspect, there are three main divisions: basic primary education, vocational trainings and performing arts activities. We provide free high-quality education to children who never attended school due to their families' social and economic conditions. Our educational programme offers an interactive primary curriculum that is accredited by the Ministry of Education. Vocational training consists of the following; carpentry, embroidery, crochet, sewing, kheyameya, Sohagi embroidery, embroidery with pailettes, beaded crochet, copper hammering, tally and marionettes. The children are trained by professionals on these different crafts based upon preference and different trials. Our products will be offered for sale at our booth at the 24-hr fun run. All proceeds from our booth will go to the families we support. The performing arts programme we provide is led by a team of professional trainers. The programme includes percussion instruments, choir, theatre, musicals, marionettes and circus training. The aim of the performing arts division is to provide the students with the space for them to capitalise on their talents, boost their self-esteem and exert their energy in a valuable activity. Do not miss the Tawasol student performances on the 21st and 22nd March. Finally, Tawasol provides health care services to the children and the residents of these communities and these services include check-ups, treatments and operations, if needed. We are currently working on a new project that would further help reach our main objective. This new project is a new school on a 1,050msq piece of land in Ezzbet Khairallah. The school will be serving the same community as we currently do, however on a much larger scale. This project will allow us to completely expand our services to the community, in terms of both, education and health.
