Na Trads / Scottish Traditional Music Awards 2015: On BBC Alba from 9pm – 11.00pm. Live from Dundee. The Trads - Scotland's Traditional Music Awards, 2015 - live from host city, Dundee. An all-star line-up that sees DUNCAN CHISHOLM, PHIL CUNNINGHAM, ALY BAIN and VIOLET TULLOCH amongst the acts that play live on the night. Following weeks of anticipation and a public vote, the evening will celebrate those who have influenced the traditional music scene. The Trads is a platform for some fantastic performances coupled with the high drama and excitement that comes with an awards ceremony. Forged out of the lively street music scene in the French Quarter of New Orleans, the members of The Roamin’ Jasmine found one another busking under the swampy Louisiana sun, along the banks of the Mississippi, or after hours in storefronts on Royal, Frenchmen and Decatur Streets. The Roamin’ Jasmine repertoire explores 1920s era speakeasy blues, vintage Calypso from Trinidad, seminal 1950s New Orleans Rhythm & Blues, and original compositions, all set to traditional jazz instrumentation with original arrangements. Through polyphonic collective improvisation inherent in their new homeland of New Orleans, the Roamin’ Jasmine hold true to a great New Orleans jazz tradition while participating in its evolution with undertones of different eras and places. www.soundhouse.org.uk

Hirda A New Opera In Scotland: At Drygate Brewery, Glasgow. GARETH WILLIAMS has co-written the music for Hirda A New Opera In Scotland presented by Noise Opera
[founded by James Robert Carson, who’s also the Director for Hirda]. Hirda is a new opera inspired by the songs, stories, history and heritage of the Shetland Isles. A collaboration between Shetland fiddler and composer, CHRIS STOUT classical composer and Scottish Music Centre member Gareth Williams, and librettist SIAN EVANS. Hirda tells the story of Alastair, a once successful actor who returns to his island home for the wedding of his brother. Everyone’s world is turned upside down when Alastair and his sister-in-law find that they have a strong attraction to each other.The contemporary setting is interwoven with another story about a 19th century woman and her sailor fiancé, told through letters they wrote to each other. The opera is performed using Shetland words and dialect (‘Hirda’ is a Shetlandic word meaning, ‘chaos’, ‘confusion’ or ‘extreme untidiness’). www.noiseopera.com/hirda 8 DECEMBER

Hirda tells the story of Alastair, a once successful actor who returns to his island home for the wedding of his brother. Everyone’s world is turned upside down when Alastair and his sister-in-law find that they have a strong attraction to each other.The contemporary setting is interwoven with another story about a 19th century woman and her sailor fiancé, told through letters they wrote to each other.
