International Guitar Night with LULO REINHARDT, MIKE DAWES, ANDRE KRENGEL and BRIAN GORE: At Grassmarket Centre, Edinburgh 07968 131737. 15 years ago IGN founder, Californian Brian Gore, decided to create an annual tour featuring three or four world-class guitarists. This year's UK tour features: Lulo Reinhardt (Germany), great-nephew of jazz legend Django Reinhardt, is one of the foremost instrumental voices in modern Gypsy music. Mike Dawes (England) has renowned international musicians including Steve Vai, Gotye and James Valentine (Maroon 5) praising his prowess. Andre Krengel (Germany) has developed a unique style of playing becoming a leading guitar player in Germany. The German press call him "the traveller between cultures" and "the guitar wizard with magic hands". Brian Gore (USA) Brian has become a member of the community of guitar masters with whom he has toured. Brian writes songs, not 'tunes', fully developed stories told with six steel strings and a passion rarely seen instrumentally or lyrically. Mercury Prize nominee East India Youth aka William Doyle who first performed live as East India Youth in November 2012. Over the next two years his achievements seemed as effortlessly gained as they were well-deserved. He released the ‘Hostel’ EP via the Quietus Phonographic Corporation in March 2013 and then his critically acclaimed albums ‘Total Strife Forever’ on Stolen Recordings in January 2014, which would go on to be nominated for the Mercury Prize and ‘Culture Of Volume’. He will be supported by Pixx ,the nom de guerre of 19 year-old Hannah Rodgers, a young songwriter from Chipstead and alumni of The BRIT School. An all-day concert titled Holyrood Rocks 2015 will be staged at the Scottish Parliament. The event will involve a wide range of musicians from right across Scotland. Holyrood Rocks 2015 aims to encourage young people’s engagement in the political process, particularly among 16 and 17 year olds, who have been given the right to vote in Scottish Parliamentary and local elections. By showcasing young musical talent whilst relaying the importance of democratic rights and the significance of the right to vote, Holyrood Rocks 2015 hopes to encourage voter engagement in Scotland and beyond. MICHAEL JANISCH – Paradigm Shift; American bassist, composer, Michael Janisch has been known for his distinct virtuosity and a penchant for thematic material, attention to groove and a reverence for his past musical experiences. On Paradigm Shift Janisch deepens his own vision, propelling his music into new sonic terrain conceptually, harmonically, and rhythmically. A series of everyday (but nonetheless life changing) events have informed the music, including the birth of his two daughters and the sudden death of his brother Joseph. Janisch’s new band includes electronics wizard Alex Bonney on the live shows thus pairing the acoustic quintet with real-time electronic manipulation, presenting an engaging sonic program of music that mixes contemporary jazz, electronica, funk, rock, punk and free improv alongside anthemic themes, otherworldly sounds and infectious grooves. Tenement Trail Multi Venue Festival Glasgow 4 October The third annual multi-venue music festival from Scotland’s largest music platform Tenement TV
will feature a packed line-up including a headline Art School show from Glasgow’s WHITE, sets from Atom Tree, Crash Club, Monogram, Pinact, Other Humans and Team Player. Taking place for over 12 hours on Saturday 4th October 2015, the Tenement Trail festival organisers have also revealed that Lisa Mitchell, AmartArt, Be Charlotte, Bella and The Bear, The Van T’s, Declan Walsh and Aylee will appear. www.tenementtv.com
The Spree Paisley 9-17 October Paisley's national festival of music, comedy and arts, now in it third year - taking place at vari-ous venues in the town centre . The Spiegeltent will be back in County Square to host the bulk of the action but there will be a few big-name shows in the Abbey as well as stuff happening at Paisley Arts Centre and elsewhere. The Cumnock Tryst Cumnock 1-4 October A music festival under the leadership of Scottish composer, James MacMillan CBE Cumnock, Scotland. The Cumnock Tryst is an annual event with concerts in venues in and around the town. The programme will feature some of the finest, international classical artists, as well as music and musicians from different backgrounds both stylistically and socially. Ullapool Guitar Festival Ullapool 2-4 October So why is the UGF so special? Perhaps it’s the mix of music old and new, of electric and acous-
tic, of steel and nylon, of seasoned performers and those, like the students from the Royal Con-servatoire of Scotland, just starting out on their careers. Perhaps it’s the location on Loch Broom and the drive up through some of Scotland’s most spectacular scenery.
