ANTON & THE COLTS: At The Glad Cafe, Glasgow. The Anton & The Colts sound draws on numerous influences: the pristine vocal harmonies of country and bluegrass, raucous bluesy guitars, the tight swinging rhythms of classic soul and funk with Anton’s sweet smokey growl completing the mix. "An ideal accompaniment to strong drink... like Robbie Robertson & Rick Danko having a jam session in the company of Mr Jack Daniel"... Bluesbunny www.facebook.com/antonandthecolts 12 NOVEMBER
DEAN OWENS with the Whisky Hearts Band – Into The Sea tour: At Glad Café, Glasgow. Velvet-voiced Dean Owens is one of Scotland’s most acclaimed and established singer songwriters, with fans including Bob Harris, Irvine Welsh and Russell Brand. Dean’s music has been described as Celtic Americana with a rocky pop edge, and draws as much from his Scottish roots, especially his home town of Leith (referenced and loved by the Proclaimers) as from his US heroes. The emotional honesty in his songs shines through as he sings about people and places, love and regrets, drawing favourable comparisons with the likes of Springsteen. A gritty yet lyrical Scottish sensibility, delivered with a searingly soulful voice. www.deanowens.com 18 NOVEMBER
STEPHEN DALE PETIT: At ABC, Glasgow. Stephen Dale Petit’s musical journey began young. Stephen Dale Petit’s blues-odyssey continues and, as Mick Taylor assures, ‘the future of the blues is in good hands with Stephen’. www.o2abcglasgow.co.uk www.stephendalepetit.com 21 NOVEMBER

Almost Blue Promotions presents ….. AGS CONNOLLY & JACK GRELLE: At The Blue Lamp, Aberdeen. Ags Connolly is a traditional country singer-songwriter from Oxfordshire, England. Country is the simplest description, but Ags is a proud supporter of Dale Watson’s ‘Ameripolitan’ movement, which supports new music with a roots influence, away from the modern incarnation of country that exists today. Ags’ influences come essentially from hardcore country songwriters like David Allan Coe, Johnny Paycheck and Dale Watson. However, he also takes major singer-songwriter influences from the likes of Guy Clark, Loudon Wainwright III and Chris Knight. Jack Grelle (pronounced Grell-ee) is a proud Missouri boy who sings his personal stories of the road and the people he has met along the way. A country, folk and honky tonk songwriter and performer, Jack joins a new wave of young transient musicians who play America’s music in bar rooms and living rooms across the globe. The new album, “Steering Me Away” out now on Big Muddy Records, features ten original songs reminiscent to the sounds of Bakersfield and 70’s Texas Outlaw. The progression from his previous two records is noted as Grelle’s strengths shine through with his clever wit in his

Almost Blue Promotions presents ….. JEREMY PINNELL & MAX FENDER: At The Blue Lamp, Aberdeen. Max Fender is the frontman of the Ohio band Alone at 3AM. Emerging from
shambolic basement shows and early roster shake-ups, over 16 years Max Fender and Joey Beck have coiled the Midwest stalwarts into a tightly-wound muscular force, reveling in hard-earned rock and roll escapism while revealing substantial songwriting chops. www.jeremypinnell.com www.aloneat3am.com www.AlmostBluePromotions.com The World Famous Elvis Show: At The Music Hall, Aberdeen at 7.30pm. A gritty yet lyrical Scottish sensibility, delivered with a searingly soulful voice. www.deanowens.com

DEAN OWENS – Into The Sea tour: Solo at Old Bridge Inn, Aviemore. A gritty yet lyrical Scottish sensibility, delivered with a searingly soulful voice. www.deanowens.com 20 NOVEMBER

St Boswells Live! presents ….. THE CORN POTATO STRING BAND + KEVIN PEARCE: At St Boswell’s Hall, Scottish Borders. The Corn Potato String Band has earned high praise in traditional American music, keeping old time fiddle and banjo music from a one-way trip to the dustbins of history. Kevin Pearce kisses the clouds and soars onwards before descending to alight on one chosen note so golden as to cause him to languish a while before leaving…more to the point, he is a brilliant singer, songwriter and guitarist who draws comparison with Cat Stevens in his 60s prime and, more recently Tom McRea. Tickets at www.musicglue.com/stboswellslive https://stboswellslive.wordpress.com/ 20 + 21 SEPTEMBER

This fantastic show for 3 & 4 year olds shows that you can make music out of anything – as long as you have a bit of imagination. KidO uses vocal and body percussion to build up words, tunes and beats that kids love to join in with. A bowl of fruit, tinkling teacups and a plain old brown cardboard box… KidO takes a load of household objects, adds a healthy dose of fun and a giggle or two, and makes the everyday extraordinary. This is an exciting mix of live and recorded singing, percussion, opera. www.macarts.scot 20 SEPTEMBER

Supporting Kathryn & Sean are the Kirsty Law Duo, comprising vocalist Kirsty Law, and her musical partner Marit Fält (Låtmandola and cittern) who together perform both self-written and traditional Scots songs. St Boswells Live! presents ….. ZŰRÖS BANDA: At St Boswell’s Hall, Scottish Borders. No doubt any tabloid would introduce Zűrös Banda as a Hungarian world music “supergroup”. However such boastfulness is far from the characteristics of the band – though, it is true that the members of Zűrös Banda are prominent figures of the Hungarian world music scene. Amongst the years of friendship, the main reason for founding the band was the mutual love for modern Balkan music. Zűrös Banda plays a unique mix of various Eastern-European and Balkan styles. They carefully blend Romanian, Serbian, Gypsy, Macedonian and Hungarian music with elements of jazz and modern dance music styles and create a unique sound that is Zűrös Banda. Ullapool Guitar Festival Ullapool 2-4 October So why is the UGF so special? Perhaps it’s the mix of music old and new, of electric and acous-tic, of steel and nylon, of seasoned performers and those, like the students from the Royal Con-servatoire of Scotland, just starting out on their careers. Perhaps it’s the location on Loch Broom and the drive up through some of Scotland’s most spectacular scenery. Perhaps it’s the infor-mal air of the whole weekend: there’s no “us and them”, no VIP area. Everyone mingles, and you’re likely to find yourself sitting beside a gui-tar legend in the Festival Club – or even jam-ming with them on one of the trade stands. www.ullapoolguitarfestival.com
