III. Circumstances regarding the client The client was referred by Ms. Noemi Romero (former practitioner), who
happened to be his mother’s nephew’s wife.IV. Problem Presented
The client could hardly follow instructions and oftentimes dependent with his mother.
V. Historical Backgrounda. Client
The mother, Mrs. Zenaida Manis, underwent medication and experienced bleeding when she was 3-month old pregnant with Amor (client). Her first baby didn’t survive because his lungs didn’t fully develop (6 months at womb). After 2 years, she again got pregnant to Amor and gave birth to him through a Cesarean delivery. She gave birth at Baguio Medical Center with the assistance of Dr. Pinky Lopez. She was then a saleslady at a hardware store and has no experience of accidents during pregnancy.
Mrs. Zenaida noticed that Amor wasn’t responding to calls/sounds (no reaction) when called. He also has no eye to eye contact.
His first walk was when he was 1 year and 3 months old, first talk was when he was 2, but still, he can’t communicate with others while growing up. He can go to the toilet alone when he turned 3.
According to the mother, they have no history of autism in her family line but Amor’s cousin (father’s side) had a condition of deaf-mute and is now 22 years old. He grew up in Baguio since birth up to present. He is now studying at SpEd (Special Education) Baguio under Upper Primary level after being enrolled at St. Paul and underwent therapy at Little Flower Foundation. He didn’t experience bullying but has a difficulty in following instructions and directions. He is also enrolled at Our Lady of Nativity (afternoon) and SpEd (morning) at the same time. He has skills in singing, coloring and interest in playing drums. He refuse to go on crowded places but is now coping up (mother exposes him to go to crowded areas).
The client is still active at STAC 5-Baguio and is scheduled on Tuesdays (2hrs) and Fridays (4hrs) for his I.L. (Independent Living) trainings such as booking, laundry, rug-making and housekeeping. When the practitioner asked Mrs. Zenaida of Amor’s improvement, he said that “nauutusan na siya, nag-aayos na ng kama niya, minsan nagwawalis ng kusa” which manifests the values of obedience and initiative.
b. Family
Amor’s mother, Zenaida Manis, is from Bicol, while his father, Teliano Manis, is from Ucab Benguet, Mt. Province. They own a house at Ambiong and only the 3 of them live there. The client always goes with his mom anywhere she go. Amor isn’t sickly but is taking vitamins and whenever he is sick, he cannot move and given Paracetamol by his mother. His parents treat him normally and his father, although busy at work, finds time to spend with him for their leisure and bonding moments. The mother is closer to the Amor since she always stays with him. His father is a private lawyer while his mother is a housewife.
c. Community
The family resides in front of the main road at Ambiongn Rd., Aurora Hill. It can be reached by riding a jeepney. They have a normal treatment to him at their community and he is friendly to neighbors. The community doesn’t have any organization/programs/services that cater to CWD’s and PWD’s which he may have.
