The WORD Among Us This year for your Advent journey to Christmas we will make
available enough copies of this magazine for each household.
They are free; however, we won’t refuse any free-will offering.
The WORD Among Us will assist you in
reading, meditating on and understanding
scripture [and to] provide sound, practical
advice for living out the Christian life. The
magazine’s name, The WORD Among Us,
comes from the Prologue to the Gospel of John:
“The Word became flesh and dwelt among us,
full of grace and truth; we have beheld His
glory, glory as of the only Son from the
Father” (John 1:14). We hope this resource will
help you contribute to the church’s ongoing mission of
proclaiming the gospel to the world and growing ever more
deeply in our love for the Lord.
IMMACULATE CONCEPTION
This year this Holy Day falls on Saturday, December 8 and is a Holy
Day of Obligation which will be celebrated with a 9:00 AM Mass on
Saturday [there will not be a Mass of Anticipation (Friday)].
Liturgical Ministers are needed to help prepare for this celebration.
Sign-ups are in the Sacristy and Usher’s Room.

ALL THE FAITHFUL DEPARTED
ALL SOULS The Church celebrated ALL SOULS on November 2. This day and the entire month of November is time to remember family, friends, or relatives who have died. It’s a time to tend family graves, bring flowers and to tell stories we remember
about these people. We remembered “those who have gone before us, marked with the sign of faith” at all three Masses on November 3/4, especially those whose funerals were celebrated this past year. Family members whose loved ones’ funerals were celebrated this past year at Nativity heard the reading of their loved one’s name and were invited to take home a candle to remember their loved one. This candle symbolizes our hope in the resurrection, a hope and belief that all will rise with Christ. In addition, THE
BOOK OF THE DEAD is prominently placed by the Baptismal Font. It sits on a stand draped with a Funeral Pall and is illuminated by the Paschal (Easter) Candle. The Font is a place of life and death, for it is where we are baptized into Christ Jesus; where all of us die, are buried, and are raised to new life in Christ Jesus. Everyone is welcome to inscribe the names of those they mourn so that the assembled community can prayerfully remember them.
CHRISTMAS FLOWERS The Worship Ministry will continue the tradition of honoring our deceased through the living symbol of fresh flowers (poinsettias). Your donation will help beautify our environment throughout the Christmas Season. Envelopes are provided in your monthly packet. Any amount is welcome, suggested amounts range from $10.00 to $50.00. A special insert listing the names of those remembered will be included in the December 23 (Christmas) bulletin. Deadline for
the flower listing is Monday, December 10.
SEASONS CHANGE - Advent Is Nearly Upon Us
Worship Ministry needs volunteers to help decorate for the next season, the Church’s new liturgical year (2019-- ADVENT, December 2), in preparation for CHRISTMAS. Can you help for an hour or two on Monday, November 26 at 6:00 PM? Please contact Wayne (490-1352 ext. 206), [email protected] if you have questions.
Your assistance will be greatly appreciated.
2019 LECTOR WORKBOOKS The Church begins its 2019 liturgical year on the First Sunday of Advent, December 2. The new liturgical year marks the transition from one lectionary cycle (A, B, or C) to the next, readings built around the three synoptic gospels - Matthew, Mark, and Luke; this year’s gospel is from St. Luke (Cycle C). Lectors, if you did not pick up a
workbook at the Liturgical Ministers’ Day of Renewal (In-service) on November 3 or 5 then you can do so from the rear Sacristy. Lectors, check your name off the list when you pick up your book.
The prophet Isaiah foretold the coming of
Jesus, the Messiah, “But a shoot shall bud
from the stump of Jesse, and from his roots a
bud shall blossom”. Jesse was the father of the
great King David of the Old Testament and is
often looked upon as the first person in the
genealogy of Jesus. That is why again this year, the Worship
Ministry chose to display this image in the center of the
Gathering Space.
Xavier Seubert, OFM, wrote: “The wreath is a cosmic symbol.
It underlies how the universe is woven through human activity
into the meaning of Christ. Branches from the forests, fed all
year by earth, water, sun and air are woven together. Added to
the branches are candles shaped from the wax of bees into the
bearers of flame, which is so important for our survival and
delight. All these are woven together into the final light and
meaning of this the feast of Christmas, that is, into the heart of
life’s light born among us. The wreath symbolizes for Christian
communities the world’s movement into the life of Christ.”
This year’s Advent Wreath will be located on the lower left
steps of the sanctuary. The four Advent Candles are created
from four previous year’s Paschal (Easter) Candles (3” x 15” -
used for the core candle) and wrapped with the appropriate
amount of 100% Bees Wax Sheets to get each to the size of
4” x 15”.
Save the Date
The Sacrament of Reconciliation during Advent will be held on Tuesday, December 11 at 6:30 PM in addition to Saturdays at 4:00 PM.

We invite you to participate by selecting an ornament from the tree and purchasing an item of need and/or a toy for a child, or by making a monetary donation. Giving Trees will be in the Gathering Space November 17 – December 2.
Please remember to register your ornament and
return your purchased gifts to church by Monday, December 3.
Monetary donations are accepted through Christmas or any time through the year.

'Waiting in Hope' Retreat for Women
Advent is a time of preparation. To help women prepare for the season, the Sisters of St. Francis of the Holy Cross are offering an Advent Day of Reflection on December 1. During "Waiting in Hope: Embracing the Unexpected," attendees will find inspiration from the lives of Mary and the women in the genealogy of Jesus. How did they wait? How did they prepare? How will you?
St. Francis Convent is at 3110 Nicolet Drive in Green Bay. While the event is free, registration is required as space is limited. Lunch will be served.
To register visit www.gbfranciscans.org.
Packer Parking Volunteer Opportunity
Please consider parking cars for the Packer game on December 2. It would be a 3-4 hour commitment before game time (you will be home in time to watch the game). Two more parish members are still needed for this date. All funds raised will go directly to parish support. Help the parish and get caught up in the Packer experience.
