MISSION AND VISION

Jesus’ final instruction to His followers was to make disciples of all nations. Marlton Assembly of God exists to mobilize Christians for the completion of The Great Commission.

We are committed to reaching out to the lost and hurting by forming strategic partnerships with churches and missionaries that are planting churches, building, equipping leaders, assisting the poor, caring for the sick, and educating future generations.

Our Vision is to see all believers on Mission with God in some capacity as prayer warriors, financial supporters, or missionaries. Marlton Assembly of God is about fully devoted followers of Christ going into "all the world" to offer the answer, Jesus Christ, to a hurting world in need and, in the process, finding meaning for their own lives.

Before signing and dating your application... Read & remove the following pages for your own record.

Consider the Cost of Short-Term Missions: Fundraising

Fundraising can be an integral and faith-building part of your short-term mission experience. Don’t let financial concerns keep you from serving. God could be waiting for an opportunity to show you how big He is, and will call others to come alongside you in this exciting and life-changing endeavor! Fundraising training is available per request.

Deposit and Balance You are responsible for a $250 non-refundable deposit, to be submitted with your application. In addition, if your fundraising efforts do not raise the total amount for your portion of the trip, you are responsible for paying the balance of the published trip cost 2 months before you leave.

Passport A passport is now required for all trips out of the continental U.S. If you do not currently have a passport, or yours is expiring within six months of the trip departure, begin your application for a new or replacement passport immediately. To obtain a passport, visit a major post office, or check the following website for step-by-step passport instructions: http://travel.state.gov/passport/

Immunizations Marlton AG supports the immunization recommendations of the Centers for Disease Control. We reserve the right to require travelers to get necessary immunizations, depending on the destination of travel. Please visit the CDC website at: http://www.cdc.gov/travel/. Check with your personal physician concerning any immunizations that might be necessary for your trip, and to discuss any other healthcare concerns related to serving on a short-term mission team.

Policies & Procedures:

1. A completed application and a $250 deposit to Marlton AG before your application will be processed and reviewed. The check will be deposited in the bank immediately. A personal interview may be required.

a. If full support is not raised, the balance is your responsibility. All trip costs are the team member's responsibility and due two weeks prior to departure.

b. If you later find you are unable to participate in your trip, the missions department must receive cancellation notice as soon as possible. You will be responsible for all incurred costs.

c. Monies donated on your behalf, by those supporting you, are contributions, and the Internal Revenue Service prohibits the refund of tax-receipted contributions or your re-direction of the gift.

d. Passport and vaccination costs are not included in the trip costs and are the responsibility of the team member. Those who raise funds in excess of published trip costs may ‘access the excess,’ submitting legitimate trip expense receipts (i.e. passport & vaccination costs) for consideration of refund.

2. Short-term mission trips can be rewarding and life changing; however, they can also be stressful. Please carefully consider factors in your personal life at this time that may distract and prohibit you from fully committing to the mission of the trip and adapting to unusual conditions.

3. Team meetings are designed to inform and prepare you for the mission. Once accepted, team members are expected to attend all team meetings. Depending on the nature and location of the trip, a team retreat may also be warranted. Please discuss any scheduling conflicts with the team leader.

4. If you have physical limitations, please apply for a trip in which you are physically able to participate. Some trips may be prohibitive for certain physical conditions. You will be asked to disclose such conditions on the Medical Information page of this application. Team members assume the responsibility and liability for their personal health decisions.

Team Covenant

Participants must agree to adhere to the Team Covenant. Please read it and confirm that you are willing to do so.

As a member of the team, I agree to the following:

1. I will remember that I am representing Jesus Christ first and foremost, as well as Marlton Assembly of God. I will model Jesus in my behavior and attitude.

2. I will not hold the team leader, other team members, Marlton Assembly of God, or the host missionary in any way responsible in the event of an accident, illness, injury, or unforeseen emergency.

3. I acknowledge that by engaging in this journey, I am subjecting myself to certain risks voluntarily, including and in addition to those risks that I normally face in my personal and business life, including but not limited to such things as health hazards due to poor food and water, diseases, pests, and poor sanitation; potential danger from lack of control over local population; potential injury while working’ and inadequate medical facilities.

4. I will expeditiously follow up on all requirements for passports, visas, financial obligations, vaccinations, travel insurance, etc.

5. I will attend all team meetings before the trip; both Sunday morning services for “Commissioning” the team; as well as any post trip meetings.

6. I will travel with the team, unless other prior arrangements have been approved by the MTF leadership.

7. I will observe and respect the Marlton Assembly of God Statement of Beliefs.

8. I will abide by the fundraising procedures endorsed by Marlton Assembly of God and will personally thank all financial donors that contribute to my trip.

9. I will abstain from making derogatory comments regarding the people, politics, sports, religion, race, or traditions.

10. I will not be overly demanding. I will do my best not to offend or cause embarrassment for the host missionary and will do my best to help him/her to attain their long-term goals.

11. I will remember that I am a guest working at the invitation of the host missionary. I will remember the missionary’s prayer, “Where you lead me I will follow; what they feed me I will swallow.”

12. I will remember that I have come to learn, as well as to teach. I’ll resist the temptation to inform our hosts about “how we do things”, unless those ideas are solicited. I’ll be open to learning about other people’s methods and ideas.

13. I will respect the host’s view of Christianity, recognizing that Christianity has many faces throughout the world and that part of the purpose of this trip is to experience faith lived out in a new setting and different culture.

14. I will develop and maintain a servant attitude toward all nationals and my teammates.

Page 11: MISSION AND VISION - Marlton Assembly of God · Jesus’ final instruction to His followers was to make disciples of all nations. Marlton ... equipping leaders, assisting the poor,

11

15. I will respect my team leader(s) and his or her decisions.

16. I will refrain from gossip.

17. I will refrain from meddling, complaining, and obscene or insensitive humor. This includes Practical Jokes

and/or Pranks” defined as “a malicious trick played on a person, especially one that causes the victim to experience embarrassment, indignity or discomfort.

18. I will adopt a flexible attitude and be supportive as plans may need to be changed.

19. I will remember not to be exclusive in my relationships. I will make every effort to interact with all the members of the team. If I am attracted to a teammate, I will not attempt to pursue a relationship until after we return home.

20. I will refrain from any activity that could be construed as a romantic interest with a national or teammate.

21. I will refrain from using tobacco, alcoholic beverages, illegal drugs or participating in prohibited activity while in the host country and during training.

22. I will respect cultural values to the extent they do not conflict with Biblical teaching. For example, in some locations it will be necessary to dress in a manner that is different than in the U.S. Specific training will be provided concerning the cultural differences that you might encounter on your trip.

23. I will refrain from the teaching or practice of any belief that would not be endorsed by Marlton Assembly of God.

24. I will remember, as visitors from another part of the world, we will be watched very closely, and I will take this important responsibility of setting a Christian example seriously.

25. If I choose to bring anything which I would like to give to the children or anyone else, I will not give it directly to any individual. (Gifts must be distributed by the host missionary or the local pastor. If not, you will create an unpleasant set of circumstances for our hosts.)

26. I will act as a servant-disciple of the local pastor or mission organization. I will respect the advice I am given concerning attire, eating and drinking and other such traditions which will help me to assimilate into the local community.

27. I will pay my own expenses to return home if my conduct is considered so unsatisfactory that it jeopardizes the success of the trip, and if mediation, during the trip, has failed to correct my behavior.

Assemblies of God Fundamental Truths Condensed These are non-negotiable tenets of faith that all Assemblies of God churches adhere to. This list is derived from the official Statement of Fundamental Truths.

WE BELIEVE...The Scriptures are Inspired by God and declare His design and plan for mankind.

WE BELIEVE...There is only One True God–revealed in three persons...Father, Son, and Holy Spirit (commonly known as the Trinity).

WE BELIEVE...In the Deity of the Lord Jesus Christ. As God's son Jesus was both human and divine.

WE BELIEVE...though originally good, Man Willingly Fell to Sin–ushering evil and death, both physical and spiritual, into the world.

WE BELIEVE...Every Person Can Have Restored Fellowship with God Through 'Salvation' (trusting Christ, through faith and repentance, to be our personal Savior). [1 of 4 cardinal doctrines of the AG]

WE BELIEVE...and practice two ordinances—(1) Water Baptism by Immersion after repenting of one's sins and receiving Christ's gift of salvation, and (2) Holy Communion (the Lord's Supper) as a symbolic remembrance of Christ's suffering and death for our salvation.

WE BELIEVE...the Baptism in the Holy Spirit is a Special Experience Following Salvation that empowers believers for witnessing and effective service, just as it did in New Testament times. [1 of 4 cardinal doctrines of the AG]

WE BELIEVE... The Initial Physical Evidence of the Baptism in the Holy Spirit is ‘Speaking in Tongues,’ as experienced on the Day of Pentecost and referenced throughout Acts and the Epistles.

WE BELIEVE...Sanctification Initially Occurs at Salvation and is not only a declaration that a believer is holy, but also a progressive lifelong process of separating from evil as believers continually draw closer to God and become more Christ-like.

WE BELIEVE...The Church has a Mission to seek and save all who are lost in sin. We believe 'the Church' is the Body of Christ and consists of the people who, throughout time, have accepted God's offer of redemption (regardless of religious denomination) through the sacrificial death of His son Jesus Christ.

WE BELIEVE...A Divinely Called and Scripturally Ordained Leadership Ministry Serves the Church. The Bible teaches that each of us under leadership must commit ourselves to reach others for Christ, to worship Him with other believers, to build up or edify the body of believers–the Church and to Meet human need with ministries of love and compassion.

WE BELIEVE...Divine Healing of the Sick is a Privilege for Christians Today and is provided for in Christ's atonement (His sacrificial death on the cross for our sins). [1 of 4 cardinal doctrines of the AG]

WE BELIEVE...in The Blessed Hope—When Jesus Raptures His Church Prior to His Return to Earth (the second coming). At this future moment in time all believers who have died will rise from their graves and will meet the Lord in the air, and Christians who are alive will be caught up with them, to be with the Lord forever. [1 of 4 cardinal doctrines of the AG]

WE BELIEVE...in The Millennial Reign of Christ when Jesus returns with His saints at His second coming and begins His benevolent rule over earth for 1,000 years. This millennial reign will bring the salvation of national Israel and the establishment of universal peace.

WE BELIEVE...A Final Judgment Will Take Place for those who have rejected Christ. They will be judged for their sin and consigned to eternal punishment in a punishing lake of fire.

WE BELIEVE...and look forward to the perfect New Heavens and a New Earth that Christ is preparing for all people, of all time, who have accepted Him. We will live and dwell with Him there forever following His millennial reign on Earth. 'And so shall we forever be with the Lord!'

Communication and Fundraising

Are you concerned that people won’t understand why they should support your trip? Here are some reasons why people give:

People give when they feel informed. Think about...why am I going? How will the money be used? How can others be involved? How do I expect to grow spiritually through this trip?

People give because they believe their gift will change lives. Help them understand how their gift will benefit God’s Kingdom.

People give if you make them feel as

much a part of the trip as those going. Communicate with them before, during, and after the trip. They need to know you are depending on their prayer and support.

People give when they see that you are

completely committed to this and enthusiastic about it! People are excited to see others with a passion and are then inspired to support them.

Above all else, focus on God, not on your own need, claiming the promises of Ephesians 3:20-21.

Prayer and Support-Raising You are about to embark on an awesome faith building journey… Prayer is the foundation for your trip. Prayer needs to start now—long before you pack our bags and travel. God is willing and able to do far more than we ask or imagine, but we must PRAY. Here are some thing to be diligently praying about as you are preparing your heart to be used by God on this trip:

Pray for…

peace that you are following His will growing faith as you rely on Him to

provide financial support wisdom for your team leaders unity of purpose for your team clear vision of God’s plans, and for the

removal of all distractions opportunities to share your story with

those who need Him insight and understanding for the

people and culture you will be serving safe travel and smooth planning of all

the details God to prepare the hearts of the people

that you will encounter

Matthew 4:19 Then He said to them,

“Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men.”

Sample Support Letter Dear Friends and Family, I hope this letter finds you doing well. I have some exciting news that I’d like to share with you. For some time now, I have had the desire to go on a short-term mission trip, and now I have that opportunity! I will be traveling to (insert destination and dates) with a team from Marlton Assembly of God. We will be working with (insert Missionary’s name). We will spend one week in (Insert name of town/village) offering our services, sharing our faith and encouraging the people in the church. As I have started to prepare for this missions opportunity, I have been overwhelmed with a sense that something great is going to happen in and through me. This will be my first mission trip experience, and I anticipate being stretched and broken and made new daily. If you would like to share with me in this powerful ministry, here are some important things that you can do:

Pray that God would strengthen me spiritually to do the work He has called me to do. Pray that this trip would encourage and forever change the lives of the people of (insert

country here). Pray that my health would remain strong.

Obviously, this trip will be expensive. The team members are responsible for raising/paying for the trip costs that includes airfare, food, lodging, and transportation. This cost is approximately $2,500. I feel confident that since God has called me to do this, He will also provide a way. I would greatly appreciate your prayerful consideration of giving financially to help me meet this need. If you are able to make a gift to the church to help with my expenses, please complete the attached Mission Trip Donation Form and return to me with your check made payable to Marlton Assembly of God. We need this form to help us properly record all assistance. I thank you in advance for taking the time to consider supporting me prayerfully and/or financially. If you have any questions or would like more information on the trip, please do not hesitate to call me at (insert phone number), or email me at [email protected]. I look forward to sharing this experience with you upon my return. Blessings,
