By Bill Mills, Director of Commu-nity Education and Activities As we move into November, and the cooler weather ushers in another Winter season, we look forward to the opportunities our area citizens and students can participate in through our Com-munity Education and Activities department. In this edition of the Minnewaska Messenger, we high-light a variety of activities and courses for all ages. Swimming lessons, physical fitness classes, open gym, indoor walking, intra-mural co-ed and men’s basketball leagues are all opportunities to improve your health. A youth welding course at MAHS led by FAST Global Solu-tions, and drivers training cours-es through Central Lakes Driv-ing School are right around the corner. For students in grades 7-12, the winter Activities include boys & girls basketball, wrestling and speech. Interested par-ticipants who were not involved in a fall activity must

complete all MAHS and Minneso-ta State High School League forms online before participating. This includes fees which can be paid online or in the MAHS Activities office. For more information go to the Minnewaska Area Schools Website; www.minnewaska.k12.mn.us, and look for the Com-munity Ed/Activities tab. Here you will find the drop down box entitled 2018-19 Activities Reg-istration, where you will click on 18-19 Activities Registration. This must be completed prior to the first day of practice. Regarding in-formation concerning MAS Com-munity Education, it can be found online by going to the school web-site under the CE/Activities tab or by calling the MAS Community

Education/Activities office at 320-239-1305. The Min-newaska Area Schools Office of Community Educa-tion and Activities wishes everyone a joyous holiday season and enjoyable winter. We encourage everyone to stay warm, stay active, and get involved!

Early Childhood Screening

The early childhood years from birth to the start of kindergarten are an important time of rapid learning and growth. An Early Childhood Screening is a quick and simple check of how your child is growing and developing and can detect possible health or learning concerns, so that children can get help before they start school.

An Early Childhood Screening is required for preschool entry.

To schedule a FREE Early Childhood Screening, contact Horizon Public Health in Glenwood at

320-634-7822.
