SIMULTANISM

ORPHISM

Simultanism is a strand of Orphism developed by Robert and SoniaDelaunay in the early 1900s.The word Simultanism comes from the idea of "simultaneous contrast ofcolors" in which colors look different depending on the colors aroundthem. The Delaunay's goal was to create rhythm, motion and depth by placingoverlapping patches of complimentary or contrasting colors next to eachother.

The term Orphism was coined in 1912/13 by the poet and artcritic Guillaume Apollinaire. It was named after Orpheus, the poet and musician in Greekmythology. It is a type of cubism that uses color to bring light, movementand a musical quality to the artwork.
