With a clear purpose and focus for the learning, we have been able to develop learning connuums that give our students direct access to the most challenging parts of their learning. Idenfying the learning required to master learning standards not only equips our learners with the necessary academic skills to be successful, but strengthens the movaon of our learners. We know that through connued success our students build the stamina, determinaon, and perseverance to move through unsuccessful experiences with a willingness to “try again.” As we connue to move forward as an acve learning community, our razor-like focus on student learning outcomes, the learning connuums that give our students access to their own learning, becomes the working norm. Our learners have opportunies to “own” their learning like showcasing their math visual learning anchor charts. LEARNING is ALIVE at Mill Creek and our students are thriving as they become confident, determined learners of excellence. Ask your child specific learning quesons in the evening… What was your job as a learner today in math? Did you understand and ask for help if the learning was difficult? What quesons did you ask your teacher? These quesons don’t leave room for the old proverbial answer of “I don’t know,” but should move them towards answering as an “acve learner.” It is great to be a Mill Creek Mustang! Amanda L. Riedl’s Roundup

Students “Own” Their Learning

As we have started the year, our students have begun to develop as learners!

Learners who have become independent in their thinking, sharing, collaborating, and

who are working to achieve the learning goal for the day. As a staff we have also been

studying to become more effective as lead learners in the classroom, cultivating our

craft of teaching and learning to ensure we understand the level of each of our

learners.

With a clear purpose and focus for the learning, we have been able to develop

learning continuums that give our students direct access to the most challenging parts

of their learning. Identifying the learning required to master learning standards not

only equips our learners with the necessary academic skills to be successful, but

strengthens the motivation of our learners. We know that through continued success

our students build the stamina, determination, and perseverance to move through

unsuccessful experiences with a willingness to “try again.”

As we continue to move forward as an active learning community, our razor-like focus

on student learning outcomes, the learning continuums that give our students access

to their own learning, becomes the working norm. Our learners have opportunities to

“own” their learning like showcasing their math visual learning anchor charts. The

students became the lead learner in the class and had to justify their math thinking in

order to teach their peers. LEARNING is ALIVE at Mill Creek and our students are

thriving as they become confident, determined learners of excellence.

Ask your child specific learning questions in the evening… What was your job as a

learner today in math? Did you understand and ask for help if the learning was

difficult? What questions did you ask your teacher? These questions don’t leave room

for the old proverbial answer of “I don’t know,” but should move them towards

answering as an “active learner.” It is great to be a Mill Creek Mustang!
