Triple R Role

Clean and maintain Lubricants while in operation.

Separate water from oil and trap it.

Remove solid particles.

Release air pockets.

Lubricants we service:

Motor Oil for diesel applications.

Hydraulic oil up to VG760.

Glycol.

Also, our products is able to clean Diesel Fuel from water and contaminants.

QuoteTheory and Practice of Lubrication for Engineers, 2nd edition, P590 - P591

“Oil is like any mineral and cannot wear out. Oil becomes dirty and contaminatedbut, like copper, iron or silver, when they are reprocessed, they are as good as new. Studies have shown that oil actually improves significantly in it’s lubricating qualities as it is exposed to heat”.

Quote from Mobil OilTechnical Bulletin

“Oil does not wear out, breakdown or otherwise deteriorate to such an extent that it needs to be changed. Oil becomes contaminated with water, acids, carbon particles and sludge.”

Quote from Mobil OilTechnical Bulletin (2)

“The engine’s oil filter(s) can only remove solid particles above a certain size. It (they) cannot remove water, acids, carbon particles or sludge all of which pass through the filter(s) just as readily as the oil.”

Caterpillar

Lubrication SystemsApplication and Installation Guide – Pg 8;

“Absorptive filters have an absorbent media, such as cotton or cellulose fibers, which absorbs acids, moisture and removes contaminants from oil.

Supplemental bypass absorptive filters increase oil capacity and may allow oil and filter change period to be extended”

Cummins

Lube Filtration SolutionsGenuine Filtration for Today's EnginesDocumentation #: LT36172NA, Pg 2

“With years of experience in developing best-in-class engines, Cummins recommends the use of bypass filtration to provide the best protection for heavy duty engines”

Others

Volvo-Penta, Volvo, Perkins & other companies use low-end spin-on bypass filtration on many of their larger size engines.

Similar filter construction to that offered by –Fleetguard – now Cummins.

Some engines come prepared with bypass ports built-in to the bulkhead of the full-flow filter chassis, ready for aftermarket heavy-duty high-end bypass filtration, such as Triple R Oil Cleaner.

Types of Contaminants

Solid Particles

Formed as part of normal operation

Effects: streaks, scraping, ceasing.

Water

Present as moisture and condensation.

Effects: oxidation and rust.

Air & Gases

Effects: higher viscosity, micro slippage

Contamination Leads to Lubricant Breakdown

Page 12: micTRME Intro RRR Value Statement v6 (MEA)

Effects of Solid Particles

Cause 50% of all machine failures (typical).

Form as part of normal machine operations.

Destroy the surface of even very hard metal.

Get trapped in most critical and dynamic tolerances like in bearings, cranks, shafts etc.

Most-found solid “metal” particles are

Copper (Cu) and Iron (Fe)

Page 13: micTRME Intro RRR Value Statement v6 (MEA)

Effects of Water

Accounts for 20% of mechanical failures (typical).

Reduces lubricity of oil and results in corrosion and erosion, leading to streaks and early wear (fig 1).

Acts as main catalyst in accelerating the process of oil oxidation (fig 2).

Effects of Air Bubbles

As air and oil emulsify it leads to higher viscosity and reduction in lubricity.

Air presence in oil creates micro slippage areas causing premature blade breakdown.

Air presence also leads to increased wear on pump motor due to excessive heat.

Air gaps in oil affect pump efficiency which leads to increased power consumption.

Page 15: micTRME Intro RRR Value Statement v6 (MEA)

Heat Effects

Heat is present where there is friction.

For every 10C rise in oil temperature, the oil life is halved.

The formation of Solid Particles increases the likelihood of localized heat within a machine or an engine.

Keeping oil free of contamination helps in eliminating localized heat hence reducing wear and tear on oil and machine.

Detrimental Situation

Oil oxidation grows rapidly.

TAN grows.

TBN decreases.

Oil additive depletes.

Soot development increases.

Sludge deposit increases.

Machine is unprotected.
