We are very excited to announce the new home of Edmonton Public Schools Metro Continuing Education at Avonmore School! The fall 2015 term will kick off in brand new offices designed specifically for our educational needs, including classrooms equipped for our varied offerings. Adult Continuing Education courses will start September 2015 in the new building, complete with registration and customer service amenities. Drawing can be a wonderful form of expression and relaxation for anybody looking to pursue a new creative outlet. In this course, you will start with the basics and learn drawing techniques that you can continue to explore for years to come. Line, shading to create form, texture, values and perspective will all be introduced in weekly exercises. No drawing experience is necessary. Supplies are needed. Designed for all levels, this class includes easy-to-follow handouts and in-class instruction. Working from a live model, artists at every stage of their development will be able to sharpen their observational skills. You‘ll have the freedom to include personal style and creativity in the drawing process. Lessons will emphasize materials research (ink, collage, paint) while still exploring the principles of anatomy, proportion and composition. Supplies are needed. The Fine Art of Printmaking (44030119) Not to be confused with a reproduction or a copy, a print is an original work of art made through the process of printing. Printmaking comes in many different forms, including silkscreen, woodcut, etching and lithography. This class will introduce you to the history of print and the wide variety of approaches artists take to printmaking. You will then repeat the basic letter forms using the broad edge of this versatile pen. Try your hand at a letter assignment to work on the practical application of hand lettering. Calligraphy: The Next Step (44030123) Continue on your lettering arts journey as you are introduced to some traditional and contemporary alphabets and learn how to use a variety of calligraphic tools. Apply your learnings to a variety of in-class assignments, as well as weekly lettering challenges. All participants must have the 3.8 Pilot parallel pen (used in the introductory calligraphy class) on the night of the first class. Stained Glass: Beginner Copper Foil (44030016) Experience the colours, textures and endless possibilities of stained glass with this fun and challenging introduction to the copper foil method. Learn skills like glass scoring and breaking, grinding and shaping, copper foiling and soldering, and finishing. Complete and take home at least two 8“x 8“ projects. e Vinod Lohtia, Red Seal ChefChef Vinod Lohtia has lived in enough places that he could well be an ambassador of international cuisine. He was born and schooled on the Indian subcontinent, trained in Europe and honed his skills in central Canada. Eager to learn more about the culinary industry, Vinod left India for Europe at age 20, building his resumé at places like the Vienna Intercontinental Hotel in Austria and the Inn on the Park in London. After meeting his wife and being blessed with two children, the family moved to western Canada. This was the start of several years at various operations in Alberta and Saskatchewan.Wanting to explore some new opportunities, Vinod then became the owner and manager of the Spice Rack Café, which was ranked one of the top ten restaurants in the city, offering international cuisine. Vinod was awarded gold in Menu Competition from the Alberta Hotels and Restaurants Association. Vinod also obtained his Red Seal certification and Certificate Chef de Cuisine during his career.

NEW Format! American Sign Language (ASL) Levels 1, 2, 3 and 4 Metro has revised the class titles for ASL Levels 1, 2, 3 and 4. All classes will now be classified as Level 1 and differentiated by the Signing Naturally textbook units. After you complete the four stages of Level 1 courses, you will have completed 100 hours of instruction and should have an acceptable mastery of ASL skills, equivalent to Level 1 as per the Signing Naturally textbook. Stephen has worked for 18 years in a variety of fields within the wine and spirits industry in Edmonton, including both retail and wholesale. Stephen is currently manager and one of the resident sommeliers at a busy wine boutique store. His knowledge and experience is regularly called upon to conduct public and private tastings. • To withdraw from a class for a refund, please notify Metro‘s Customer Service office at least two full business days prior to the start date of your class.

• Refunds may take up to four weeks to process through Edmonton Public Schools Financial Services.

• Refunds will not be issued once a class has begun or for non-attendance.

• Transfers may be made up to two business days prior to the start date of your class. After that time, transfers are not possible.
