Many years ago when “transition” lenses (lenses that darken in sunlight) first came out, the optometrist also said I needed trifocal glasses. He said I should try the combination no-line trifocal lenses with the transition feature. After all, they were said to be a way to get multiple vision options within a single lens without the use of lines and potentially not even needing sunglasses. I decided to try them out along with my new prescription.

There was a learning curve for sure, even a transition from the old to the new. But the optometrist had given me directions on how to manage the changes I was going to experience. Short story, my life changed because of those lenses. They made my life easier in the long run, but only after I followed the guidance given me.

Transition has always been a part of life. Transition of course, is another word for change. God created a world that is always in transition. We have seasons. We have day and night. We have babies that grow to adulthood. All are transitions.

And there are other transitions that we encounter in our lives. May is a month of transitions with a number of graduations being planned. For those graduating it means transitioning from one point in life to another, passing a significant milestone. That’s definitely more significant than a new pair of glasses, but still a transition.

Our Christian tradition begins with some major life changes. Transitions marked the season following the first Easter. Jesus had died and was raised from the dead. Jesus then appeared to many of his followers. Afterwards those Jesus followers gathered to form what we now know as church. (The church continues to be the visible presence of God in the world through the work of the Holy Spirit.)

So how are we to deal with all the change? God makes sure we know how to deal with the transitions we face. Even when Adam and Eve were removed from the Garden of Eden, God gave them direction about how their lives would be led.

God makes sure we have the tools both to address change and make the results work.

* Scripture note: Although we don’t read the Psalms aloud during worship, they are still an

important - and beautiful - part of the lectionary lesson, and a great opportunity for some

Bible-reading during the week!

Pastor’s message continued…

And the Holy Spirit continues to provide guidance in our ever-changing world, based on what people need.

Jesus reminded us of the two greatest teachings: Love the Lord your God with all your heart, mind, soul, and strength and the second, Love your neighbor as yourself. These two directives, these tools, will take us through each and every change and transition we ever have. They can do that because they give us the frame of reference in which to face every challenge, whether big or small. Everything else will become evident.

Transition is a gift from God, something for which we must always remain thankful.

Blessings to all who read this.

Centralia High School Graduation, 3 pm at CHS

Sunday, May 20th

We will celebrate our High School Graduates with a Cake & Punch Reception following 8:30am service.

Although the weather on Easter Sunday brought our annual egg hunt indoors, the youngsters didn’t seem to mind as they raced around the education wing gathering up

eggs, and then checking out all the treasures inside. Many thanks to everyone who contributed to,

and helped with, the egg hunt this year!

We are just a bunch of ordinary people looking for answers in all the right places. We search together, grow together,

and find truth together.

Each week, we read a scripture, and then have a round table discussion on the meaning and the message.

There are no wrong or right answers - everyone interprets the scriptures in different ways.

As you can see from the summary below, our staff and volunteer leaders are doing a good job keeping expenses under-budget so far this year, but our giving (income) is also down.
