The CIS accreditation visit has now been set, the School will go through the accreditation visit and pro-cess in January 2016. This is a very exciting time for the School and the School welcomes the visitors and their recommendations they have to offer us.

The School is going through this process as One School - TIS and SST, are united in their approach to CIS and we are all committed to improving the School. Both TIS and SST have completed the review of the curriculums separately but have come together to review the rest of the School together.

The School has reviewed the following areas that CIS requires:

SCHOOL MEMBERSHIP STANDARDS

A. School Guiding Statements

B. Teaching and Learning

C. Governance and Leadership

D. Faculty and Support Staff

E. Access to Teaching and Learning

F. School Culture and Partnerships for Learning

G. Operational Systems

CIS have high standards and expectations of accredited schools:

SCHOOL MEMBERSHIP CRITERIA

CIS Membership is conferred on a school that:

Clearly demonstrates International Mindedness and actively promotes international awareness in its students.

Applies the CIS Code of Ethics for Schools.

Is willing to undertake an external school improvement process.

As ever Tenby, SEP (KL) is committed to developing and improving and we are hopeful this process will support us to do just that.

Week 5 Last Sunday we had the pleasure of attending the Tenby music concert at the Saujana Hotel. Arthur (3N) TIS Primary talented pianist demonstrating his excellent talent, during the concert! Last week Primary elect-ed new prefects who are now sporting a new burgundy tie. Primary prefects will be supervising at lunch times and playtimes. Helping staff by setting up assemblies and concerts. This week children who want to represent TIS Primary student council will be making short speeches before Primary pupils vote. This year student council will be key in designing and choosing a new Primary play area.

This week our International Primary Curriculum (IPC) coordinators led a parent information workshop to help parents understand our curriculum better. Parents found out about entry and exit points plus the IPC learning goals. Each child in TIS Primary has chosen an IPC learning goal for this term.

Next week we have our first Parent Teacher Conference on the 7th & 8th October, 2015. Please ensure you sign up. This is a great opportunity to check on your child’s progress and how they have settled. Can I po-litely ask parents to keep to their set times.

Mr. Ross Armitage

Another brilliant end to another great week in TIS Primary.

Last week we were lucky enough to have a selection of our Sixth form students perform to the KS2 chil-dren. This week we had the pleasure of listening to several genres of music and it was truly inspiring to hear and watch the music being created by students from our school.

Each week we have a KS2 music concert but this week it had more impact as the children could see this

was a realistic achievement with hard work and dedication.

2015 Young Inventors Challenge Finals in Sunway University

(Reported by Ms Lau)

The Young Inventors Challenge Finals was held on Saturday 19th September, 2015 in Sunway University.

14 students from Sekolah Sri Tenby represented the School with their ideas and inventions based on the

theme of this year’s competition – ‘Inventions to Help a Million: To Make the World a Better Place’.

To qualify for the finals, students had to submit a proposal of their invention. This year, 63 out of 145 pro-

posals were selected for the finals. Selected teams attended a workshop session where they were

briefed on how to prepare for the finals.

The following are reports from participating students on their experience throughout the competition:

Form 2:

We came up with the invention ‘Survival Orb’. The device was designed to help victims of a shipwreck es-

cape and survive for a period of time. It is equipped with tools for basic survival needs such as a survival

kit, food and drink supplies. We got this idea when we were having fun playing the water roller during the

annual Tenby Charity Bazaar this year. At first we faced problems with the design of the ‘Survival Orb’. We

managed to solve these problems through some research. About three weeks before the finals, we submit-

ted a report of our project. For the final stage of the competition, we designed a big poster with all the infor-

mation that we have compiled in the report. At the finals, we presented the idea of our invention using the

poster, power point presentation and diagrams of our invention. There was also a public viewing session

where the public came and asked us about our inventions. Students from other schools visited our booths

and wanted to know more about our invention. We were able to make new friends. We also joined the pro-

ject paper writing competition, which is a detailed write-up of our invention, the steps of getting the idea of

this invention, the objectives of our invention and so on. We are happy and fortunate to be able to partici-

pate in this year’s YIC. We were given an opportunity to develop and showcase our invention to the public.

Although we did not win, we gave it our best shot and in return, we gained invaluable experiences. This is

just the beginning of a new chapter for us.

Form 5:

On the day of the finals, all of us arrived at the venue by 07:30hrs. After some light breakfast, all teams

were given an hour to set up their booth. We decorated our booth with posters and diagrams and displayed

our invention, ‘Locki’ and sketches of the design and working of our model. We were satisfied with the out-

come even though we did not have large printed banners like students from other schools. After the prepa-

ration of the booth, all participants and mentors sat down for the opening ceremony and a short briefing of

the judging criteria. We were told that each booth will be visited at least two times by teams of judges. The

judges will award marks based on several criteria such as invention, presentation and safety. Three teams

of judges visited our booth. We introduced our invention, explained the benefits of our invention and provid-

ed details as desired by the judges. They then bombard us with questions which we answered enthusiasti-

cally and confidently. After the judging session, it was time to impress anyone and everyone who stopped

by our booth during the public viewing session. We were happy when the judges and people of the public

praised our efforts and some were even impressed by our presentation. At about 15:00hrs, the VIPs and

VVIPs arrived and that was the moment everyone was waiting for – the announcement of the winners. The

five of us were confident that we could bring home one of the prizes. However, we waited and waited for

our team’s name to be called out and with each announcement, our hopes sank a little. In the end, we did

not win. All of us felt physically and mentally drained by the fact that we lost despite putting in our best ef-

fort. After some reflection, we realised that we gained a lot from this experience. Although we did not win,

we were on fire during the presentation. We enjoyed working together to put together a presentation that

we are proud of. We managed to apply what we learned in the classroom very well. We lost, but we are not

defeated. The next time an opportunity like that arises, we will be even more prepared.

Haze Work During school closure, haze work is uploaded on our website starting from 08:00hrs following the day’s time-table. Students are expected to download these materials to answer the questions following the time of the day’s timetable. These pieces of work are to be pasted into the students’ topic book for the subject. We hope parents will assist to monitor them doing these work at home. We do have a number of children not completing these work to submit on the next day when they return to school.

Term 3 Examinations These examinations will start in the week beginning Monday 5th October for Std 1-5 and Form 1,2 & 4. To avoid any postponement of examinations held during this week, students are to come to school to sit for the day’s papers and then to leave after the papers. If there is a need to stay after morning break or lunch break, students are expected to bring their packed food and water bottle from home to eat in the homerooms. Homeroom Teachers will inform parents the time to pick up their children for each day.

SPORTS

U15 Girls Football ISAC League

The U15 Girls team took part in their first tournament of the season against strong opposition. This was the first tourna-ment of the term and practice had been difficult due to the haze. Although we suffered heavy defeats in our first two

games, the girls responded brilliantly, staying motivated and working hard to compete. The third game was much closer and

there are signs of a good team in the making.

Wednesday 23rd September, 2015 Volleyball Team won Silver Medal Our run of success has continued, with our U18 Girls Volleyball team becoming the second team to claim a

silver medal this season, competing in the ISAC U18 Division 1 Volleyball League at ISKL. It was another fantastic result from our team, with the girls winning 4 matches before unfortunately losing the final 2-0 against ISKL. As always, the girls played with a determination and skill level that they can be

proud of. Their sportsmanship was also exemplary and a credit to each one of them. Congratulations to all the players and staff.

Under 18 Girls away to MKIS This was a steep learning curve for our girls. They

came up against an opposition who were more fluid in their possession and passing and created a lot of

chances. Very well done to Alice in goal for keeping the score line respectable with some excellent saves and Marissa in defence for her throwing herself into many

tackles. Both girls played well defensively.

Our girls have an abundance of enthusiasm and com-

mitment and now we have to develop their technical

skills and ability to work as a team. The final score was

0:4 but this should not discourage our girls.

Under 18 Boys away to MKIS

The U18 Boys Football team played against MKIS last Friday. A tough game started with

MKIS scoring twice but our boys rallied back to 2-2 before the opposition scored three quick

goals at the end. The scoreline did not match the game as it was very even. Our team

played extremely well against much older opposition. Well done.

1. Are PA Committee meetings open to all parents?

Base on PA’s feedback, the School now provides termly Year Group Parents’ Forum in providing the platform for the School leadership and parents to promote and foster open communication.

If the matter is specifically regarding your child, according to the Parents’ Handbook, your first approach should be to your child’s class teacher. Depending on the out-come of that first meeting, a further discussion may be required which may include the Head of Department, i.e. Head of Subject, Year Leader, or a Deputy, where you will be advised accordingly.

PA Committee meets twice a term or more frequent as required. These meetings are for Committee members only. New batch of Committee is elected at the begin-ning of every academic year where any parents of the School can nominate him/herself to be elected by the parent community of the School.

What is NOT the role of the Parents’ Association?
