Tenby SEP Year 11 Newsletter
Issue 1 – December 2014
Dear Parents,
It has been a very busy term here for all our Tenby
pupils and I’m sure many will be looking forward to
a well-earned break in a few weeks! Year 11
teachers and I continue to be impressed with the
hard work and progress our students have made
since the start of the year.
It is my intention in the monthly newsletter to foster
the connection between school and home and
share important information with you – as well as
celebrate the achievements of our pupils and look
forward to coming events. This is the first edition so I
hope you enjoy reading it – please let me know of
you have any comments or suggestions for future
editions.
Enjoy the coming holidays and for those of you
celebrating Christmas, enjoy the festive season!

Careers
Career Guidance for Academic Pathways
Year 11 students have been busy receiving one-to-one career guidance
sessions to give them the chance to explore and recognise their skills and
potential. These will help them decide which subject options and future
career paths best fit their profiles. Senior students now realise the
importance in making informed decisions this term, which are vital
regarding their subject choices and securing a place for next academic
year. They also understand the need to plan ahead so they do not miss
admissions deadlines. They are aware that their main focus for Term 2
and Term 3 will be to study hard for their mock exams and their final
IGCSE exams. These students understand the need for an open dialogue
with their parents regarding the choices they will make after their
IGCSE exams. They are giving careful consideration to what they are
good at, what they enjoy and how they can get high grades, as well as, the
importance of making the right informed decision about their next steps
after Year 11. In Term 2, Year 9, Form 4 and Form 5 students will also be
receiving one-to-one career guidance sessions to support them with their
academic pathways.

Sixth Form
A Level Taster Day for Year 11 Students
This term for the first year Tenby Sixth Form held an A Level Taster Day event where
Year 11 students were given the chance to sample A Level subject choices they
are considering taking next year. The senior students met the Sixth Form
academic staff and took part in fun, interactive tasks and mini lectures. They also
had the opportunity to visit the Sixth Form and explored the facilities the Year 12
and Year 13 students enjoy. Senior students appreciated been given the
opportunity for a glimpse into the Tenby Sixth Form life and enjoyed learning
about some of the new subjects on offer for next year. Further information
regarding the A Level subjects offered for next year can be found on the school
website:

Planners
All pupils should be recording their homework in their
Student Planners. This is a really useful tool for pupils,
parents and tutors to keep track of homework being
set.
It also allows for very quick and direct communication
between teachers and parents by writing messages.
Please check your son/daughter’s Student Planner for
homework regularly and to see if there are any
messages from members of staff…then sign it off in the
space provided.
Sixth Form Options
The Sixth Form option choices need to be returned by
Tuesday 13th January, 2015. This will increase the
chance of students being able to study their first
choices of subjects. After this date, there will be fixed
option blocks but pupils can still apply for places.
Reminders
Prom
On the 21st of November, Tenby held its annual student-led Senior Prom at
the Sheraton Hotel. Over 200 senior students and teachers attended the
event, making it an unforgettable evening. Everyone dressed for the occasion,
the girls in their striking gowns and the guys donning their suave bowties,
following the event’s 007 theme.
While we relished an exquisite buffet, we enjoyed a variety of talented acts,
ranging from bands to duets. Not long after that, the crowned Prom Prince
and Princess shared an intimate dance together, although the Prom King and
Queen needed some encouragement from Mr. Sallis.
Despite the hectic program, we still found time to bombard the photo booth,
all of us eager to take home memories of an extraordinary evening.
Everybody danced the night away, the rhythm claiming even the best of us
(especially Mr Gorst!). The night ended on a positive note, with Mr. Auster’s
favourite catchphrase, “Getting Better All The Time”. He even showed a
couple of his signature moves while the song played in the background.
Undoubtedly, the success of this event is down to the hard work and
dedication of the determined Prom Committee. Overall, Prom was a triumph
and we have raised the standards for next year’s Senior Prom!
Krystabel
All Year 11 pupils will be sitting their Mock Exams upon their return to
school after the break. The Mock Exam results are a very useful tool to
inform pupils and teachers alike of progress at this important time in
the run up to the final exams in 2015. Pupils should have been revising for some weeks now and have been
completing their revision planners to plan their revision topics well in
advance. Please support us in making sure that this continues into the
holiday period.
We have briefed the pupils in school about the expectations and
timetable arrangements. For your information please find below the
