    STUDENT LEADERSHIP

My congratulations to all the candidates for our 2021 student leadership roles. The voting across our school showed that many of our candidates are well known by students as classes watched the recordings of the speeches prior to voting. Mrs Douglas and I were the scrutineers - which means we together checked the tallies of voting and can confirm the results which will be announced at the presentation assemblies. I understand that this is a happy and sad situation at the same time but I hope that those students who were not elected for these roles will put themselves forward for other leadership roles next year such as SRC representatives.

  • GIVING!

We always love receiving but it is great to have opportunities to give too! I would just like to publicly acknowledge our generous MPS staff who collectively put together 23 handbags / backpacks for the It's In The Bag / Dignity Bags charity drive that Bunnings collect for. These bags filled with many personal care items will support women, babies and teens who may be in very vulnerable living situations.

I'd also like to do a 'shout out' for Foodbank NSW who have been another great partner organisation with MPS. They have enabled us to give out over 400 Care & Share packs this year, packed with love by our staff and shared with our community. We have included hand sanitiser gel & wipes in this week's bags - thanks to a donation from Good360!

    CANTEEN

We are very grateful to have a canteen that has an SMS ordering system to minimise students needing to carry money around during the school day. I would encourage families who have not used this facility to read the instructions in the newsletter. I have recently instructed the canteen not to return change over $20.00 directly to students as I don't want there to be a risk of losing large amounts of money during the school day. Change over this amount will be put in an envelope with the student's name on it & left with the office until end of day for collection. PLEASE NOTE: class learning starts promptly at 9.00am. If your child needs to order recess/lunch before school then they need to be here by 8.45am as the canteen will no longer be serving over the counter after 9.00am as of the start of the 2021 school term.

    COVID PROTOCOLS 2021

The Dept.of Education has recently released the planned changes to school operations for Term 1 however each school will need to contextualise these guidelines. He hope to be able to have more opportunities for our community to come onsite for different events. This is always subject to the latest directives in response to the current situation in our society at the time. Thank you to our families who have been very vigilant in ensuring students are well when they come to school and staying home if they aren't.

    GOOD360

Thank you to our families who supported us last week to accept the invitation to be on The Today Show with Good360, one of our partnering organisations. Good360 have provided 1000 school bags with stationary to 50 schools to support families. We were there to represent Merrylands PS and accept 50 bags to be shared with our families. Good360 have provided many of the 'thank you' gifts and our giveaway Mothers Day/Fathers Day stall items. They do an amazing job of supporting our community and we appreciate the special invitation we had last week to visit the Smithfield warehouse - not to
