Why MentorMe?MentorMe is a formal mentoring program. It is designed specifically to assist Mentees in finding a suitable Mentor with the experience and expertise to guide them through a structured program. A structured program is vital in assisting the Mentee to realise and achieve their goals.

A Mentor is someone who provides you with the time, support, encouragement and positive reinforcement to assist you in achieving your aspirations and goals. A Mentor is someone you can rely on for guidance based on their own professional experience and expertise.

A good Mentor is rare and difficult to find. Legal Network is dedicated to matching up the ideal Mentor and Mentee, ensuring a tailored program is followed and the appropriate guidance is applied, which ultimately makes for a successful, long-term relationship.

AimThe aim of MentorMe is to match Mentors and Mentees with similar fields of interest or similar roles in order to assist in professional development and career opportunities.

ObjectivesThe objectives of MentorMe are as follows:

Ensuring the Mentee’s desired goals and aspirations of the program are met

Identifying and enhancing the Mentee’s professional development and growth areas

Assisting the Mentor in achieving further mentoring skills including the provision of feedback, communication and interpersonal skills

Assisting the Mentor in achieving personal and professional satisfaction by contributing to the profession

Benefits of Joining the ProgramWhether you’re a mentor or mentee, the benefits of joining MentorMe are personally and professionally rewarding.

As a Mentor, you will be contributing to the legal profession whilst further developing your mentoring, interpersonal and communication skills. In addition, you will be keeping abreast of emerging issues relevant to the less experienced legal professionals.

As a Mentee, you will enjoy learning new skills and identifying professional growth areas. You will also improve your goal setting and enjoy working towards achieving those goals. You will be exposed to a more senior, role model whom you can rely on for professional guidance and support.

The MentorMe program will provide both Mentors and Mentees with several networking opportunities in the form of social events and workshops which is another benefit if you’re looking to expand your legal network.

Design and StructureMentorMe is designed to achieve the objectives outlined above and as such, a structured agenda will be implemented.

FormatMentorMe is a one-on-one meeting. A structured agenda will be implemented for the first 6 sessions of the program. Thereafter, it is up to the Mentor and Mentee to decide on whether or not they wish to pursue the program and if continuing, to decide on the future format.

The sessions will take place on a monthly basis for approximately one hour and the Mentor is responsible for ensuring the agenda is followed. Each agenda will be tailored in accordance with the desired criteria of both Mentor and Mentee. If the Mentee has elected to include their behavioural assessment results, these will also be used to design the agenda.

VenueIt is up to the Mentor and Mentee to decide on a suitable time and venue for their monthly session.

Assigned CoordinatorYou will be assigned a Coordinator at the commencement of the program. The Coordinator is responsible for ensuring the efficacy of the program and ensuring the objectives of the program are being met. The Coordinator will follow up with the Mentor and Mentee after each session to discuss the progress of the program.

The Selection ProcessOnce a Mentee has registered their details, an assigned Coordinator will meet with the Mentee to discuss the criteria in more detail. Once a specific set of criterion has been determined, the Coordinator searches the MentorMe database to select a suitable mentor. If a suitable mentor does not appear on the search list, the Coordinator is responsible for finding a Mentor by other means including searching the market, referrals and networks. If, after pursuing these avenues, a Coordinator is still unable to select a suitable Mentor, the Mentee is advised and a watching brief is put in place for the Mentee until a suitable Mentor can be selected. The Coordinator will provide regular updates to the Mentee on the status of the watching brief.

Changing Mentor/MenteeIf, within the first 6 months you are not happy with the Mentor/Mentee selected, your assigned Coordinator is responsible for selecting a new Mentor/Mentee. Once a new Mentor/Mentee has been selected, a new agenda will be designed and you will re-commence the program at the beginning of the new agenda.

Behavioural Assessment to Assist in Achieving your GoalsAs an added service, we are offering Mentees an opportunity to undertake a behavioural assessment to determine strengths and areas for development. This assessment will greatly assist you in achieving your goals and striving towards career development. The Behavioural assessment is a formal testing process conducted by one of our partners, Psylutions, a boutique psychology consulting firm. After completing the assessment, a professional psychologist will consult with you on your results and provide you with a comprehensive written report. The results of the assessment will be used in conjunction with your desired criteria to form a tailored agenda.

If you wish to undertake a behavioural assessment to assist you further in the MentorMe program, please do not hesitate to ask your assigned Coordinator. For further information relating to the behavioural testing or psychometric testing in general, visit our website which has a direct link to Psylutions. Alternatively, visit www.psylutions.com.au
