What is distribution?• A film Distribution is a company or an individual responsible for the marketing of a film and

who will attempt to sell it to television. • They can also focus on the marketing of a film this is the way the film is sold to the audience

through things like trailers, television advertisement, individual website for their film telling the fans all about the insight of the film such as having little conversation with the celebrities which star in the film (this will make the fans feel like they can relate to the film), they can also set up accounts on social networking sites such as Facebook fan pages or set up Twitter accounts.

• The distributer might set the date for the release of the film and they decide on the method the film can be viewed and sold to the audience.

• In terms a distributor is mainly an organization which handle the theatrical release of that specific film in a particular country. As well as doing the marketing and the circulation, such as home viewing which are things like DVD’s, Downloads and Television.

• A distribution is the critical thing in releasing a film, without it the film will not have the funding’s for marketing the actual film and also the film won’t do as well in the Box Office meaning they wont take in as much profit. No matter how good the film is the audience won’t watch and the film may get a bad rating and review.

Would any of these companies be interested in investing into our film?

• I think that Warner Bros Production would be most interested in out film as they have produced a few crime thrillers already, one film that stood out to me the most is ‘Training Day’.

• The reason why it may convince the Warner Bros Production to look into our film is because Training Day is also a crime thriller and it is a very successful film.

• The budget they had to make this film was $45million and they made $104.5million in Box Office meaning they got over $59.5million profit.

• This would be a great opportunity for them to make another crime thriller film as that genre has already been proven to make them a large profit, also there is already a target audience for these types of films.

• On the other hand it would be very had to beat this film, everyone would be expecting an even greater film with an even bigger profit.

British Distribution Companies - Momentum Pictures

• Momentum Pictures also known as Momentum. They are one of the independent leading motion pictures in the UK and Ireland. It releases about 20 theatrical films every year.

• Momentum Pictures was founded in 1996 in London . The owners of this distribution company were; Alliance Communications they were the first owners from 1996-1998. After that AllianceAtlantis Communication Inc. were the owners from 1998 until 2007 ,then Alliance Films took over from 2007-2013 and in 2013 Entertainment One have become the owners.

• Momentum Pictures produce are drama, romance or either horror films. They have so far only produced one crime thriller (which is the genre of our film). Its called ‘Dead Man Down’. The film was released in 2013.

• Dead Man Down film budget was $30million but thy only got $18,074,539 in the UK Box Office. This means they lots out on $11,925,461.

• There is a huge gap in the market that we could fill with our crime thriller. Bringing the company a new target audience and possibly more money.

• This is why I think Momentum would be the best option for our film.

Audience • The target audience for The Heist would be the male gender. This

is because the whole film is based upon a male character and the two main characters are men.

• Our film would probably more likely appeal to a British audience as it was made in Britain with British actors, showing what life could be like in England. Also British movies are more likely to make it in Britain as they could possible struggle in other countries.

• The age group I think we would be targeting is 16-30 , I have decided to pick these to ages as that is when you start to take an interest in the film industry and also this is when boys start to get into the problems which Franklin comes across in the film.

Marketing Strategies Now a days in the 21st century our generation is all about the internet making it even easier and accessible for us to market our film by our selves, these are the type of things we would do: • One of the ways we would market our film is thought using social networking

sits; such as Facebook and Twitter accounts. • We could also create a website for our film with all of the inside gossip on set,

out takes videos and have a chat where the fans can talk to the characters that star in the film.

• Another way we would be able to market our film is through putting up taster clips and a trailer of our film onto YouTube, making the audience want more.

• Things like TV advert and Billboards would not be a possibility for us as we just wouldn't have the funding's to make all of that happen.

• Overall the best option for us would be to market our film in the social networking sites, posting images of the film with little captions and tweeting about what is happening in the film.

Self Distribution• Self distribution would be one of the ways we as team we would defiantly

need to consider. It would be quiet hard to manage all of this because we wouldn’t have a budget to do anything with the film, making it quiet impossible that the film would make it.

Pros: • We would obtain 100% rights

over our film. • We wouldn’t have to give

away/share any money or profit that we make of the film.

• It gives us a choice of where we want to show the film

Cons:• You need to be positive that

you are not signing any right away from your film which could prevent you from doing anything with it.

• Self distribution it self can be very time consuming as you would have to be chasing the buyers, managing everything and also at the same time filling out all of the paper work.
