Electronic Medical Record (EMR)• Keeping detailed patient medical records for continuing patient care is of utmost

importance in any healthcare organization. EMR stands for Electronic Medical Record, can transform your paper clinical processes into a 24 x 7 immediate-access process. EMR is designed as a powerful, flexible and easy-to-use clinical information system targeting point-of-care, decision support and research uses

Page 15: MeDAS - UNISIS HIS.PPTX

Key Features• Includes patient demographics, patient history, physical examination,

investigations, diagnosis, treatment plan and progress notes• The templates for history taking and physical examination can be configured

according to the requirements of each specialty• The security system maintains confidentiality of patients' health related

information• All the required data of each of the previous visits can be visualized on the ‘home’

page of the patient's health record• Real time access to clinical information for the clinicians• Usage of standardized terminology (ICD 10 CM) improves the accuracy of

diagnosis• Minimal usage of keyboard for typing as data entry can be made largely by

clicking the mouse.

Page 16: MeDAS - UNISIS HIS.PPTX

Key Benefits of Electronic Medical Record (EMR)Doctors

• Instantaneous access of patients records• Instantaneous access to lab results, radiology reports and images• Easy referral of patients to the concerned specialists• Saves clinician’s time by minimizing data entry through intuitive documentation• Increased conformation to international standards in reporting and

documentation• Doctor’s orders tracking and reminders for to-do lists• Improves care and promotes patient safety• Eliminates manual data gathering, reducing staff workload and increasing

physician satisfaction• Facilitates physician mobility without compromising data accessibility or security

Page 17: MeDAS - UNISIS HIS.PPTX

Patients

• Significant Reduction in waiting time• Improves services, enhances process efficiency and thereby patient satisfaction• No hassles carrying the lab results and radiology reports to the doctor• Improved patient care as the doctors can focus on patient’s overall health• Allergies permanently recorded on the patient record resulting in significant

reduction of iatrogenic incidents• Higher patient compliance and patient participation in care specially by use of

SMS’s

Computerized Physician Order Entry (CPOE)• The Computerized Physician Order Entry (CPOE) module allows orders to be

entered and electronically transmitted from the point of origin to the point of patient-services thus minimizing delays, medical errors, eliminating lost paper and making information accessible to other providers. Order entry includes laboratory orders, radiology orders, procedure orders and medication orders for both inpatients and outpatients. CPOE alerts various interactions like: drug – drug interactions, drug-food interactions, drug interactions with lab test, allergies to drugs, drug interactions in pregnancy and contraindicated drugs. Clinical decision support system reduces the work of healthcare organizations and reduces clinical errors

Page 20: MeDAS - UNISIS HIS.PPTX

• Improves patient care by automating and centralizing the workflow• Immediate transfer of orders to lab, radiology department, pharmacy without

any human intervention• Prevent medication errors and adverse drug events• Real time access to important clinical information• Reduces variance in clinical care with use of consistent terminology• Increased legibility, accuracy, and completeness of clinical prescriptions• More efficient laboratory and radiology requesting and reporting• Knowledge driven healthcare and clinical decision support system• Enhance communication and coordination within the team

Page 21: MeDAS - UNISIS HIS.PPTX

Key Benefits of Computerized Physician Order Entry (CPOE)

Patients• Patients would not be prescribed allergic drugs and contraindicated drugs even accidentally• Orders get executed immediately and without failDoctors• An error of prescribing a contraindicated drug would never occur even unknowingly• Saves time by accelerating the doctors’ process of prescriptions and eliminating duplicationPharmacists• No guess work needed to understand the illegible handwritten prescriptions• Immediate receipt of doctors’ orders.Hospital• Possibility of litigation expenses arising from medication errors and dispensing of wrong

medication prescriptions is eliminated

Page 22: MeDAS - UNISIS HIS.PPTX

Nursing Information System• This module optimizes the nursing services with respect to the execution of

orders from CPOE. Nursing information system (NIS) manages clinical data from a variety of healthcare environments made available in a timely and orderly fashion to aid nurses in improving patient care. Nursing information system module keeps track of the instructions to the nurses and the execution status of those orders

Page 23: MeDAS - UNISIS HIS.PPTX

drug administration, nursing memo/note, nursing worksheet, body temp chart, nursing tabulation chart, nurse duty roster, nursing rhythm chart• Clinical whiteboards integrates real-time scheduling with EMR

integration to enhance nursing work flow

Page 24: MeDAS - UNISIS HIS.PPTX

Benefits of Nursing Information SystemDoctors• Can be confident that all the orders would be executed and none would be overlooked• Graphical representation of all the vital signs and other parameters for easier

comparisonNurses• Any missed order would be promptly shown as an alert• Any order from the doctor would be immediately transferred to the nursing station• The nurses do not have to specifically search the records for newer orders; the orders

would be notified to themPatients• Absolutely no delay in the execution of doctors’ orders

Page 25: MeDAS - UNISIS HIS.PPTX

Lab Information System (LIS)• This module caters to the requirement of clinical biochemistry, clinical pathology,

microbiology, immunology etc. The lab information system streamlines all the process at the lab right from sample collection to result entry and transfer. Due authorization is done at the end of the process to make the process fool proof

• The lab machines including the auto analyzers are interfaced with the hospital information system and their complete operations are automated without human intervention• HL7 standards incorporates the ability to receive data from other lab machines• Sample management system creates barcodes and tracks the samples of blood,

saliva, urine etc.• Assures that the technicians complete all the pending tests.• Generates automated results from various laboratory machines and updates patient

records.• Ability to handle large number of specimens without compromising on safety• Efficient tracking of specimens by usage of bar codes for the specimens.

Page 27: MeDAS - UNISIS HIS.PPTX

Benefits of Lab Information System

Doctors• The lab results of critical patients would be notified instantaneously to the doctor• All the lab results would be submitted directly to the doctorPatients• No delay in the execution of doctors’ orders• No need to make repeat visits to collect the results• No mix-up of samples of different patients at the labLab Technician• Immediate receipt of the doctors’ orders to perform a lab test• Easier reporting of lab results of the patients

Page 28: MeDAS - UNISIS HIS.PPTX

RADIOLOGY INFORMATION SYSTEM / PACS• Radiology information system module manages the functions of radiology and

imaging services. The module manages the maintenance of various results derived from diagnosis and reports the result to the concerned departments. Radiology information system processes radiology orders, tracks the investigation status, records reports and does the integration of digital images.

Page 29: MeDAS - UNISIS HIS.PPTX

images to videos• Reports can be generated automatically using MS Office and sent to concerned

doctor• The provision to attach images and radiology reports to the patients’ medical records

facilitates simultaneous view of both.• It has the feature of viewing images and reports through the web and emails.• Integration facility with INFINITY PACS system ensures easy storage and retrieval.• The parameters of the image such as contrast etc can be adjusted for maximum

functional advantage• CD/DVD burning facility relieves the patients from carrying the bulky images for

every visit• Due authorization process enforced by the software ensures that the results are

accurate

Page 30: MeDAS - UNISIS HIS.PPTX

BenefitsDoctors• The doctors have an uniform template for report generation• The consulting doctor can correlate the records, the images and the reports• The images will be available along with the patient records for referral anytimePatients• Patient need not pay for the film of the radiology investigation• Fixation of the investigation timings from the nursing station or from the counter• No need to make repeat visits to collect the resultsHospital• Relieve the purchase department from buying films for the hospital• Cost savings in the form of space required for storage of films
