Anakron Living HistoryThis group of enthusiasts dedicate their time to the re-enactment of the Medieval way of life by authentically emulating the daily aspects of the period such as socialising, combat practice and playing Medieval instruments. The Medieval Tavern was the main centre of recreational, entertainment, gambling and where hearty home cooked meal was always to be found.
Battles AbroadBattles Abroad have organized groups of re-enactors to travel to various locations at home and abroad to perform at historical events and displays. We started in Mdina in 2005 and have since been in Rhodes and UK locations. Our groups are varied and cover a wide range of styles and periods, from battles to fully choreographed displays of living history. We can even provide a complete Hospitallier hospital.

FEDERICUS REX MALTA FALCONERSFormed by dedicated falconers in 2008, the club was named after one of the most powerful Holy Roman Emperors, Frederick II. His book De Arte Venandi Cum Avibus meaning (the art of hunting by birds) is still considered by many falconers as the main point of reference. The club’s aim is to re-introduce the art of falconry in Malta to generate public interest and participation in this ancient art.

OUR FRESHEST IDEASWE ALWAYS MAKE SURE WE’RE SERVING UP
A Historical EventCorrado Castelli, a Palermo Baron, was asked by King Frederick IV in 1376 to help Guglielmo Murina, Castellan at Castel al Mare (St Angelo), quell a Maltese armed insurrection which resulted in the occupation of the city of Mdina. Corrado is the King’s de facto representative in this mission. As a result, he is in charge and puts pressure on Murina to move out of his safe castle in Borgu to besiege Mdina. King
at an earlier date. The Maltese rebels are capitanati or led by Lanceas or Lanca Gatto. The fact that Gatto headed this rebellion is astonishing as he had been honoured with the title of Milites by the same King in person just three years earlier so he must have had a very good reason to lead the revolt. A notary by profession and serving as jurat in Mdina, Gatto could not tolerate and may have been greatly concerned about the degenerating economic situation which would have meant he was at risk of losing much of the wealth he had amassed. In any case, whatever his reasons were, most of Malta and Gozo was in a state of revolt.
militarily and thus able to rally his own armed entourage for this endeavour. These armed men may not have equalled the Genoese force which had been sent by King Frederick just three years earlier, but certainly powerful enough to end an armed siege. Castelli would have had knights and men at arms, well
Interestingly enough, Corrado’s family stayed on in Malta and were given lands by the grateful King Frederick. This may also show that the life of the nobility in Malta was not bad at all. His son, Manfred also married Murina’s daughter. He becomes castellan, but has no children. It may be because of this that he funded the building of a church in Rabat, dedicated to St Agatha, were his coat of arms can still be seen. The coat of arms of Guglielmo Murina should actually show a murena head above the red bands - a representation of the moray eel. Thanks to this another Maltese chapel reveals an engaging story.
