DISC GOLF COURSEMontgomery County Parks & Recreation has a 37-hole Disc Golf course for you to enjoy. This is a very unique course that consists of wooded fairways with a variety of elevation gains. Out of 4300 national public courses listed in the disc golf course database, Golden Hills is one of only 19 in the United States with 37 holes. Right here in your backyard!

The course is free to play; all we ask is that you take out what you bring in. If you have any questions, give us a call at (540) 382-6975.

Before you playThe Rules: Throw a disc from tee to target over each hole of the course in the fewest throws. Each throw after the tee shot is addressed as a stroke from the lie of the previous throw. Discs thrown over fencing or stuck in a tree at least six feet high are considered a penalty stroke. Par for each 19-hole course is 57. Remember to yield to trail users when crossing paths. Have fun and good luck!

The Map: Follow the map (next page) through each 19-hole course - Golden Bear (blue line) or Black Bear (green line).

The Scorecard: If you want to make it competitive - or you’re just curious how you compare to those pro disc golfers! - take a scorecard (on the back of the map) on the course with you.

MONTGOMERY COUNTY OZONE ALL-STARSDIXIE DISTRICT 3 CHAMPIONS

These young men went on quite a ride. This Montgomery County All-Star team ties the 2011 team as the most successful in Montgomery County Parks and Recreation history. This team also helped put Montgomery County baseball back on the map. Montgomery has been overshadowed the last few years by the incredibly good teams of neighbor franchise Christiansburg. Mike Sparrer came to the rec department back during Christmas with a plan to bring back the best talent from Auburn and East Mont that had left the Dixie program for various reasons over the past few years. His vision was to bring this group of boys back from their respective travel ball teams and help field a strong Dixie All-Star team. Mission accomplished! Along with the great on-field coaching from Stacey Keith and Eric Underwood, this team has helped lay a foundation to keep Montgom-ery County baseball competitive for the next few seasons. This is something to be very proud of.

Congratulations to the 2015 Montgomery County All-Stars! These young men are Reed Under-wood, Parker Hale, Carter Keith, Rusty Marshall, Landon Shaver, Tyler Sparrer, J.T. Foster, Bryce Young, Matthew Lawrence, Daniel Brotherton, Kaden Poff and Trevor Young. Ten of these play-ers will be future Auburn Eagles and two will be the cornerstone of future Eastern Montgomery Mustang baseball teams. It will be a lot of fun to watch them as they make their way up the junior varsity and varsity ranks in the coming years; but they will always remember this summer - the summer they came together to win the ultra-competitive Dixie District 3 Championship and then place third at the Dixie Baseball State Tournament!

After finishing last season as dis-trict runners-up, this team won district title and finished this season as state runners-up. Along the way, they got great coaching from Manager Brian Wilson and coaches David Stephens, Sharon Zuckerwar, Neil Artrip and Frank (Andy) Hubbard. They also got words of wisdom from the Mont-gomery County Ponytail players, Ponytails manager Rick Boyd, Auburn High School varsity coach David Hurd, AHS standout pitcher Mikayla Burlingame and - while at state - Liberty University coach Dot Richardson and members of the Lady Flames softball team.

The 2015 Montgomery County Angel All-Stars are Grace Wilson, Isabelle Stephens, Kendra Scaggs, Kirsten Fleet, Molly Parsell, Rachel Brotherton, Anna McGuire, Hannah Shepherd, Alexis Artrip, Avery Zuckerwar, Kiley Smith and Mack Hubbard. Congratulations, girls, on a great all-star season!

Join us for some great fun, good exercise and an opportunity to enjoy the great outdoors. A chance to learn about the area in which we live, both legend and folklore! The walks are easy to moder-ate in terrain and 2 – 4 miles in length. New club participants must participate in a Level I walk for assessment and to establish level of participation.

Assessing the right walk for you can enhance your experience out on the trail.

- Level I: Leisurely stroll. Participants at this level will be exercising by walking a couple of miles, stretching your legs and looking to get outdoors for fresh air and sunshine! Trail would consist of flat or gradual terrain and typically a paved or groomed surface. - Level II: Moderate exercise. Explore nature off the beaten path by stepping over trail obstacles with root and rock outcroppings, climb and descend moderate uneven terrain, and know your personal limitations. Walking shoes with a cleaved sole are re-quired for this level walk. - Level III: Heart Pumping Exercise. Participants in good physical condition and are capable of maneuvering rough, uneven terrain along with elevation gains, loose surface material should be expected.
