Alice Ann Lentz

June 26, 1936 – April 9, 2019 Alice was born and raised in San Diego. She married her husband, Curtis, had 5 children, then moved to Orange, California. Not long after their move her life long love of dachshunds was to start. Alice started her career in breeding, raising, and showing dachshunds with Betty and Barney, two long hair puppies she had purchased. In her breeding program she strove to improve her lines with each litter, which lead to numerous champions, too many to count, and a decades long love affair with this very special breed. She later entered into performance events, Field Trials and Earth Dog, for which she had numerous titles and championships. Fortunately, Alice did not have to go into the field, however Dale and I did and we know every square inch of that field. We also spend a lot of time teaching recall. Thank you Camilla! Over the years Alice welcomed and mentored many new people to the breed. She always had time to answer questions, help with a problem, give tips on grooming, or just hang out with friends and cocktails in the dachshund community. Of course, Alice did forget to tell me the one grooming tip about not bathing a long hair just before a show, which is how I finished my first grooming of Jake making him look like a Keeshond! Alice was a member of Sierra Dachshund Breeders Club as President and served on the board as President, Vice President, and Secretary and spent more than 20 years as trophy chair making sure the displays for the Specialties were beautiful. Alice was a very family oriented person having raised Margaret, Cathie, Bill, Judy, and Mary. She loved family gatherings and holidays with her children, 11 grand-children, and 12 great grandchildren, plus their spouses, which made for very large family gatherings. Alice leaves behind, not only a large dachshund community that she loved and shared for over 50 years, a legacy of lovely dachshunds with wonderful, loving temperaments, but also and a huge void in our lives. We will always be grateful for everything she gave us, including love, an introduction to many friends, and a love of the breed. Juliet and Dale Rigtrup

The following categories of dogs may be entered and shown in Best of Variety competition: Dogs that are Champions of Record. The entry and showing of dogs whose championships are unconfirmed is limited to a period of 90 days from the date of the show where a dog complet-ed the requirements for a championship according to the owner’s records. If, at the end of the 90 day period, the championship of a dog has not been confirmed by AKC, no further entries of the dog for Best of Variety competition are to be made until its championship has been confirmed by AKC.

NON-REGULAR CLASSES INVOLVING MULTIPLE ENTRIES (FOR ALL THREE VARIETIES) Stud Dog Class – For Stud Dogs and TWO but not more than FIVE of their get. All get presented with the stud dog in this class must be entered in a regular class at this show. The stud dog need not be entered in any other class. Award will be based on the merits of the get. Brood Bitch Class – For Brood Bitches and TWO but not more than FIVE of their produce. All produce presented with the brood bitch in this class must be entered in a regular class at this show. The brood bitch need not be entered in any other class. Award will be based on the merits of the produce. As the judge’s decision in the Stud Dog and Brood Bitch classes will be based on the merits of more than one dog or bitch, no one of the dogs or bitches making up the entry judged first in the classes will be eligible to compete for Best of Breed or Best of Variety by virtue of having won in these classes. Brace Class – For two dogs of the same variety or breed with at least one owner in common. Entry accepted as an additional class only.

Sharon and her husband Joe live in Madera, California where they have Carrdox kennel. As Dachshund breeders for over 28 years the focus at Carrdox has always been to produce dogs that can not only compete in the breed ring, but also dominate in performance areas as well. While Carrdox has bred standards in all varieties, the true love here has always been our standard smooths. Our standard smooths have been the foundation stock of several breeders finding success in breeding sound, quality smooth Dachs-hunds. We take great pride in the Dachshunds that we produce. In limited litters and in limited showing we have been able to produce Dachshunds that stand out and are noticed and acknowledged for their typey looks, correct structure and movement, great temperaments and natural hunting abilities.

Christopher T. Neale Christopher Tilghman Neale showed his first dogs, Cardigan Welsh Cor-gis, in 1968. He’s been involved with Pembroke Welsh Corgis, Siberian Huskies, Salukis, Dachshunds and especially, Borzoi. Since 1983, along with his wife, Patti, he has bred more than 100 Borzoi Champions, as well as many Field Champions and obedience titlists. Show highlights include three National Specialty Bests of Breed, two wins at Westminster, a National Futurity winner and numerous regional Specialty winners, all owner-handled. He’s especially proud that one of their two homebred Best in Show winners is a Dual Champion. Judging was a natural progression. Chris has judged specialties in four Groups, and the biggest honor for a breeder, the Borzoi National specialty. Outside of the States, he’s judged in Finland, Sweden, Australia, Argenti-na, Colombia, China and Canada. He is currently approved to judge the Hounds and Herding dogs, Dalma-tians, Siberians, fifteen Sporting breeds and Best in Show. The art of bonsai has been a passion for Chris for almost as long as dogs, and care, study, and styling of these trees is a daily pleasure. He is also active in competitive shooting sports.

Patti Widick Neale

Patti Widick Neale has been an active participant in many facets of the dog sport for her entire adult life. In partnership with her husband, Chris-topher Neale, she’s has owned and shown Dachshunds, Salukis, a Whip-pet, a Finnish Spitz and Siberian Huskies, but as a breeder, has concen-trated on her beloved Borzoi. Together, the Neales have bred well over 100 American Borzoi Champi-ons. Among them have been Group, Best in Show, National Specialty and Westminster winners, all owner-handled. The Sylvan Borzoi have excelled in obedience work, and Mrs. Neale has been involved in lure coursing since 1975, formerly as a judge. One of her Dual Champions was also a Best in Show winner. She has logged over 1600 miles as a dry-land musher, driving two-dog Borzoi teams with a four-wheeled sulky. In 1992, her interests expanded into the judging arena. She is currently approved for Best in Show, Hounds, Working and Herding dogs, and several Toy and Non-Sporting breeds, and has judged in 11 other coun-tries. Mrs. Neale developed the Judges Education program for the Borzoi Club of America and gives seminars on the Borzoi and other breeds around the United States and abroad. She studied Fine Arts at the University of South Florida, and profession-ally, worked for many years in the printing and reprographics trade, and as a photographer. She has served as portrait artist for the Bulldog Club of America’s Hall of Fame. Her photographs of dogs and other animals appear in numerous books and magazines.

PUPPY SWEEPSTAKES Puppy Sweepstakes Rules

1. Dogs shown in Sweepstakes must ALSO be entered in one of the Regular Classes at the regular fee and on the regular entry form.

2. There shall be a separate stakes for each coat variety 3. In the following classes, Longhaired, Smooth, Wirehaired Varieties will be judged separately

and 30% of each Variety stake will be reserved for expense. The balance will be divided in the proportion of 40% First Place, 30% Second Place, 20% Third Place, 10% Fourth Place. The Best in Sweepstakes will receive any unclaimed monies so that the Club will not retain over 30%.
