The Studio Capacitor team was instantly enamored with this public art project. It is an
amazing opportunity to celebrate McCall and its story as a city. As the call to artists
highlights, this work must understand the role it plays in McCall’s urban renewal district and
illustrate McCall’s unique character and environment.
Studio Capacitor is a design/build team at the intersection of art, storytelling and technology.
When approaching a new project we ask, “What are the first principles of a place and why?”
Our foundation for the concept is built through research and context, which provides the
structure of the artwork’s narrative. The characters in our stories are the materials and
methods, choices, and rationals which support the piece’s philosophy. Our work is original,
conceptual, and technical. We design, engineer, fabricate and install our projects, staying
hands-on through the entire process. Our methods create art that is as equally interesting to
discuss as it is to experience.
Our past projects include a comprehensive wayfinding and sculptural art package for the
Idaho Elks Children’s Pavilion at St. Luke’s, which transformed the pavilion into a playful and
magical environment inside and out. In this case, our driving focus was understanding and
respecting the experience of children in this new pavilion. The result was immersive.
The City of McCall is the gateway to the Idaho northern wilderness. It is a destination and a
checkpoint for the people seeking adventure. When uttered, the name strikes a chord deep in
the chests of those that are familiar. Towering pines, water droplets in the sun, undisturbed
fresh snow and blankets of stars to lull you to sleep, these are the lyrics to the song of McCall
written on the hearts of all who visit. We wish to explore the mystery, excitement and
adventure that can be met on the shores of Payette Lake and make them tangible.
Our team is brimming with ideas, questions and stories for this opportunity. We are honored
to submit our qualifications and look forward to continuing the conversation about the future
image of the City of McCall’s Urban Renewal District.
Sincerely,
Studio Capacitor
