Recovered recurrently depressed patients (n = 145) were randomized tocontinue with treatment as usual or, in addition, to receive MBCT . Relapse/recurrence o m ajor depression wasassessed ove r a 60-week study period. For patients with 3 o r more previous episodes of depression (77% o fthe sample), MB CT significantly reduced risk o f relapse/recurrence. For patients with only 2 previousepisodes, MBCT did not reduce relapse/recurrence. MBC T offers a prom ising cost-efficient psychologicalapproach to preventing relapse/recurrence in recovered recurrently depressed patients.
