MUNICIPAL NEWS

WORD OF THE MAYORDear fellow residents,

I would like to update you on some recent changes within our municipaladministration. I am sure that you willbe pleased with the quality of peoplewho recently joined our municipal team.

Many of you already know that ourenvironment inspector Mr. MathieuMadison left his position at themunicipality to meet other challenges. I am pleased to announce that 46 candidates applied for the position. Aselection committee was formed with anenvironmental expert and two municipaladministrators and they unanimouslyagreed that the best fit for our communitywould be Ms. Geneviève Dubuc.

Born in the Laurentians, she has beenactive in the environment for severalyears. To begin, she has variousacademic training including a collegediploma in Bioecology from theSherbrooke CÉGEP, and a Bachelor'sdegree in Natural Environments fromthe University of Laval. In addition, she has acquired good professionalexperience at the environmental level aswell as shoreline, water way and lakeawareness in non-profit organizations. At the municipal level, she was theperson in charge of the green line to assistresidents on issues such as not collectingyour cut grass, invasive insects, pesticidesand composting. She was also anEnvironmental Technician for variousregulations in the City of Gatineau.

We are pleased to welcome Geneviève to our municipal team.

Our general manager, Ms. LouiseDesjardins, met with the municipalcouncil and informed us that, althoughshe enjoyed her role as general managerover the past 6 years, she felt it importantthat she return to her original role as fulltime director of finances. Ms. Desjardinsis a licensed chartered accountant and her professionalism is greatly appreciated.

With Ms. Desjardins returning full timeto finances, it meant that a position in thefinance department was no longer neededand the municipal council abolished theaccounting clerk position. I would like to,on behalf of the Gore team, thank Ms.Carole Dumas for her dedication andfriendship over the past 6 years and, withour municipal team, wish her good luckin all her future projects.

With Ms. Desjardins returning to financefull time, a new general manager wasneeded. The municipality put together aselection committee consisting of twomunicipal councillors and an expert inmunicipal administration. We receiveddozens of CVs and had several interviewsand the person selected, again unani -mously, was Ms. Julie Boyer.

Ms. Boyer began to work at EnvironmentCanada as a legal chemist after shecompleted her Master’s Degree inEnvironment at UQAM, specializing in Environmental Water Chemistry. Her academic background includes aBachelor’s and Master’s degrees inChemistry obtained in France and an ISOcertification. After spending 6 years in thelaboratory, Julie stayed within the samedepartment but became in charge of theNational Freshwater Quality Indicator forCanadian Rivers, producing a series ofIndicators on the state of theenvironment. For the past 8 years, Juliehas been in charge of this NationalProgram at Environment Canada.

Originally from the Laurentians, shegrew up in an outdoor oriented family, enjoying cross-country skiing, back -packing and fishing with her father in Val-Morin’s countryside. Her passion forcross-country skiing led her to getinvolved in the Canadian Ski Marathon(CSM) and she became the first womanpresident of this 51 year old institution. Inthe past 5 years, the CSM has developeda new 104 km northern trail fromMontebello to Mont Tremblant, created afree school event for over 640 kids in theLaurentians and Outaouais regions and
