A Note from Your Governor
To the Spicy Southwest District,
I am absolutely elated to be serving as the Southwest
District Governor this year. I‘m currently a junior at Lake Havasu
High School in the beautiful Lake Havasu City, Arizona. My Key
Club journey began my freshman year and quickly developed
into a passion. At DCON in El Paso, I ran for Lieutenant Governor
and honorably served the Mohave Division for the 2013-2014
year. After a year of service on the district board, I decided the
time to step up was now. So at this year’s DCON in Tucson, I ran
for the 2014-2015 Southwest District Governor.
Key Club is something special. We all know that. We see
it, we feel it, and we hear it every day. Key Club isn't just a high
school organization dedicated to serving our homes, schools,
and communities. It's a family. A family that grows through
compassion, leadership, inclusiveness, and care. My goals this
year are to Strengthen K-Family Bonds, Boost Membership, Close
the Gap, and to Push for Passionate Service. And as a family, we
must see to it that together we accomplish these goals.
This year will be what you make it. Take risks. Open doors.
Have fun. Whatever you want out of this year, you can get with
dedication, drive, and faith. Don't be afraid to try the
unthinkable. We can do this. Together.
Always in Service,
Riley Jandrew

Hello Everyone,
My name is Jake Ormond and I am serving as your
District Secretary/ Treasurer for the 2014-2015 year! I live in
Surprise, Arizona and go to school at Willow Canyon High.
Key Club has changed my life so much over the past three
years, and while I am disappointed this year in Key Club is
my last, I know that it will be the best! I am so excited to
get to work with all of the members of the Southwest
District this year!
Some of my goals that I have set for myself, and for
the district are; to increase communication between the
club officer level and the district office, to have all monthly
reports turned in on time, have all officers in the district
trained by their lieutenant governor, and my big goal is to
hold a Key Club United Day. Key Club United day is where
every single active club in the Southwest District Unites and
holds a massive fundraiser to raise funds for a project that
we all vote upon, including clubs! This will definitely be a
major undertaking, but I believe I am ready for the
challenge, but will also need all your help, as well as input.
I am so excited to work with all of you this year, and
I can’t wait to see what this year has in store for us!
Sincerely,
Jake Ormond

Hey Southwest!
I'm Efren Fonseca and I'm your 2014-2015
Bulletin Editor! I'm so happy to have the
opportunity to work alongside your governor,
Riley Jandrew, Secretary/treasurer, Jake
Ormond, and the rest of the lieutenant
governors.
I have a few goals that revolve around the
idea to inspire others, as cheesy as I may sound. I
would like to see more from the clubs such as
more pictures, videos, articles, and anything you
would like to see recognized in either The Key to
the Southwest or online at swdkeyclub.org.
I'll be on the lookout for those of you who
come through and send me the most material
that I'll need to really show what Key Club is
about and how it's possible with all your help.
Stay spicy,
Efren Fonseca
Major Emphasis Projects
62 children enter a Children’s Miracle Network
Hospital every minute. Some are battling cancer.
Some are suffering from a traumatic injury.
Others require constant care because they were
born too early. Regardless why these children are
there, Children’s Miracle Network uses donations to
purchase equipment, research, and care: all to
save and improve lives of as many children as
possible.
The Hershey’s Track & Field Games are the
largest youth sports programs of its kind in North
American, with hundreds of thousands of
children competing every year. Everyone has a
chance to be among the 480 athletes who
qualify at the North American Finals. Hershey’s
Track and Field works to inspire to get outside
and have fun!
Since March of Dimes launched the national
Prematurity Campaign, preterm birth rates have
reached a 10-year-low. In 2012, the drive to
eliminate elective deliveries before 39
completed weeks of pregnancy with nearly 100
hospitals was put into motion. Now this comfort
and support to families with newborn babies is
offered to more than 128 hospitals all over the
country.

Governor’s Project: Beads of Courage
District Project: The Eliminate Project

Major Emphasis Projects
The Program is a resilience-based
intervention designed to support and
strengthen children and families coping
with serious illness. Through the program
children tell their story using colorful beads
as meaningful symbols of courage
that commemorate milestones they have
achieved along their unique treatment
path.
Kiwanis International UNICEF have
teamed up for the fight against
maternal and neonatal tetanus: a
disease that steals the life of 60,000
innocent babies and women a year.
The effects of the disease are
excruciating: extreme sensitivity to
touch, light, and sound
