Ardlethan Sewer
The construction of the sewerage treatment plant had been delayed due to lack of available water for construction. Good recent rainfall has alleviated this problem. An inspection has taken place with construction planned to commence in late May 2019.
The construction of the gravity reticulation system has been delayed due to issues with obtaining approval from John Holland Rail to underbore the rail line. As a result, the contractor has had to reorganise their construction program to commence works elsewhere while approval is being obtained. Construction is now planned to commence on the southern side of the rail line early June 2019.

Local Roads Update
Road Works - Full length shoulder widening is in progress on the Springwood Road (Temora Road).
Road Conditions Recent good rain has been welcomed with the majority of dams replenished. This will permit Council to commence gravel road maintenance and gravel re-sheets. Council’s three grader crews will be spread across the Shire road network and address priority items first.
Drought Declaration Coolamon Shire is one of the 14 latest Councils to be added to a growing
list of drought declared councils.
This declaration has numerous benefits to farmers and the wider
community across the Shire. It enables farmers, farm-workers and
suppliers/contractors in the Shire to apply for up to $3,000 per eligible
drought-affected household through the Drought Community Support
Initiative.
As a part of this declaration the Coolamon Shire Council have been
invited to apply to the Drought Communities Programme - Extension.
This program is targeted at projects that stimulate local community
spending by using local resources, businesses, suppliers and workers, or
provide long-lasting benefits for communities and the agricultural
industries on which they depend.
If the applications are successful this program will see numerous benefits
across the Shire by boosting local employment and procurement, and
addressing social and community needs.
Coolamon Shire Council will submit the following projects for
consideration for funding
Fastfill water stand pipe in Ardlethan, allowing quicker access to water.
Enhancements to the Coolamon, Ardlethan and Ganmain
Showgrounds, to extend the usability and functionality of each
respective ground.
Extension to Coolamon Early Childhood Centre to increase capacity to
support local working parents and to increase employment
opportunities at the Centre.
Event funding to support existing events within the Coolamon Shire

continue to attract much needed tourism spending to the northern
areas of the Shire.

Restoration to the RSL Museum roof to ensure the longevity of the
collections.
Community and Farming Heritage Preservation, providing funding to

the application to ensure that these funds are spent locally within the
Shire to support our farmers and businesses.

Coolamon Early Childhood Centre The children have been enjoying the Autumn sun and time in the
outdoors. There have been lots of opportunities for play and
learning. With the centre working towards a more sustainable
future, the Preschool Room have been learning about how to care
for worms and foods worms enjoy. This has been extended with the
children assisting to maintain the worm farm. They also have a
separate bin for food scraps in the indoor environment to collect
worm food each day.
Creative play was extended to the yard with the children running an
“ice cream shop” and using coloured crepe paper to make ice
creams of different flavours. This provided mixed age groups with
opportunities to build meaningful bonds as older children assisted
their younger friends to make their “ice creams”. Our new chalk
boards have proved to be very popular and different textures have
been explored using both wet and dry chalk to draw.
Munch and Move is an embedded part of our centres daily routines
with children of all ages challenging their gross motor skills. Physical
activity is encouraged by our educators and children are always
enthusiastic to have a turn. Leadership skills are also supported
during this activity as older children help set up and run the
program each day.
We currently have vacancies in our Preschool Room on Mondays,
Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. Please contact Renae at the
Centre if you require care or would like to be added to the waiting
list on 69 273 991.
