Greetings from the East, Worshipful Sirs and Brethren,

The calendar is turning so fast that it’s already May and almost halfway through the Masonic Year. As you may have noticed, SGTS Lodge has been busy primarily with our scheduled activities and regular and special meetings. The month of May is no exception.

Mother's Day is coming up this May 14th. My brothers please do not forget this very important day. No matter who we are in life, we have our mother to thank for our presence in the World. As men and masons, we should carry that with us and remember to show the love and respect due our mother and to all women the World over. Take this day to commemorate that love that has carried you through life, if you can, pick up the phone and call your mother to wish her a Happy Mother's day. If that is no longer an option, find another way to honor the first woman who loved and cared for you as you came into the World. Happy Mothers’ Day to all the Moms of the Lodge and concordant bodies. Thanks for everything you have done for us! Here in our lodge we will celebrate and honor ALL Mothers of our lodge on Friday, 12 May 2017. Dinner will start at 6PM. Hope you can join us to show our appreciation to them. Also this month, let’s not forget the commemoration of Memorial Day in honor of those who paid the ultimate sacrifice in order for us to enjoy the Freedom we all love. So from all Freemasons to every Service Member, past and present, Thank you and may the Supreme Architect of the Universe forever be your guiding light, in this life and the next.

This month we will be honoring one of our Brothers who reached the 50-Year mark of his Masonic journey. Brother Oscar Canedo will be presented with the Golden Veteran Award on Wednesday, 17 May 2017. Ceremony starts at 6:30PM in the lodge room followed with Dinner in the Dining Hall. If able please extend your cable tow by attending this memorable event. During this month, the three pillars of our lodge will participate the Annual Masters and Wardens retreat. This event is designed to help the Master and Wardens reach their goals. Through tools, advice, and knowledge directly applicable to their officer duties, the retreat informs and empowers them to be efficient and successful. Each year's retreat provides crucial new information and other topics that can affect the lodge. The retreats build lasting relationships with fellow lodge officers, whom may be called upon for advice and friendship during their terms of office. These retreats will teach Officers - How to make a difference in the lodge during their year of leadership? How to inspire their brothers? How they can generate a sense of personal accomplishment and pride? Annual Master and Wardens Retreats give them the information, personal connections, and real-life skills they need to be a better leader - in and outside of their lodge; grow their network, and, build lasting relationships with fellow lodge officers and Grand Lodge leaders. See you ALL in the Lodge Room, my brothers. With much respect, admiration and gratitude, By the square, Lito Oxina, MASTER 2017 SGTSL #296 Bro Nelson Vinas 3rd Degree Bro Jason Oxina 1st Degree

25 Year Presentation to Bros Frank Biltz Spring Fest Jam Session and Nilo Enrile 25 Year Pin

From the West: Worshipful Sirs/Brethren, A Westerly Wind:

Brethren, May is once again upon us and almost halfway through the year. Meaning, our Worshipful Master is also halfway through his term. I would like to encourage all of my Fellow Lodge Officers to continue getting ready to step to the plate. The practicing of the different degrees and procedures, foot works, lecture delivery are very essential to each and every one of us when performing distinctive conferrals.

I also want to express my sincere appreciation to all the brothers who labored on our last conferrals as well as to all those Brothers who helped out in the kitchen during our April Stated Meeting. As always, Big Thanks to Brothers Amado Supnet, Rey Cruz, Vic Deguzman, Jun Aspiras and all Brothers and Sisters who helped out in so many ways.

May is also a month where we celebrate Mothers Day. It is one of the special days to let them know how distinctive they are in our lives. I wish ALL the Moms a very Happy, Happy Mother’s Day !!! Always On the Level, Bro Arthur R. Coloma Senior Warden 2017

From the South: Worshipful sirs and brethren, The first quarter of the year is now history and once again our beloved lodge Silver Gate Three Stars lodge no. 296 made big strides in its quest to fulfill its goals for the year. Our Jam session fund raising activity in March was another successful endeavor. And our lodge is continually blessed by the untiring efforts by our kitchen crew led by our very own Bro Amado Supnet, who even at his not too youthful age still finds the energy to procure the necessary ingredients for our meals. His efforts are equally augmented by Bro Vic De Guzman, Bro Ray Cruz, Bro Jun Aspiras and many more who still remain anonymous. All their efforts are complemented by food donations and contributions coming from sisters and brothers from other lodges i.e. Black Mountain Lodge no. 845 represented by Wbro Arnel Zapata and sister Lhenny. Just as a reminder, May flowers will be in bloom again so take some time to smell the roses. By the Plumb Brother Ben Llanes Junior Warden 2017

DEALING WITH MEMORY LOSS PART ONE Coping with memory loss Memory loss is a distressing part of dementia, both for the person with dementia and for those around them. However, there is plenty that can be done to help manage memory problems to enable people to retain their confidence and independence for as long as possible. This factsheet looks at ways to support a person with memory loss and offers some practical tips. When is memory loss associated with dementia? Memory loss is often one of the first signs of dementia. Initially, memory lapses may be mistaken for the normal forgetfulness that often increases as people grow older or when they become very stressed. However, in someone with dementia it will gradually become apparent that the memory problems are becoming more severe and persistent. They will also be accompanied by changes in thinking and feeling that make it more difficult to cope with everyday life. Memory loss, as with any other aspect of dementia, affects each person differently. For example, some people with dementia retain certain skills until quite a late stage. They may recall a surprising range of facts or experiences, especially earlier memories, even though they are very forgetful about other things such as recent events or familiar situations. Supporting someone with memory loss If the person’s forgetfulness could put them at risk in any way, you may be able to take precautions that can help them live safely. These might include leaving a written reminder by the door so that they don’t forget their keys when they go out. Or it could mean fitting a device that cuts off the gas supply if they put a pan on the stove and then forget about it. (For more information on devices to help with memory see factsheet 437, Assistive technology – devices to help with everyday living). However, on the whole, it’s important to help a person continue to do things for themselves and to remain independent. Those around the person with memory loss should try to be flexible and patient as far as possible. They should also encourage the person with memory loss to remember what they can without making them feel pressured – using frequent reminders for example. Although memory loss affects each person differently, there are some characteristics that are relatively common in people with dementia. There are four common areas in which people with memory loss experience difficulty: remembering events, taking in new information , recognising people and places , and separating fact from fiction. Please read next months insert for continuing information in supporting Brothers and Family members with memory loss.
