The April OCV Social on Apr 18 was a well-
attended event held at the Claim Jumper
Restaurant in Fountain Valley. Thirty-seven
members enjoyed a variety of tasty dishes
along with a lot of great conversation and fun. It
was hosted by Janet Cherry. She provided
Easter eggs filled with goodies, including some
special money prizes won by Bob Van Der
Upwich, Mickey Lookman, Tony Siragusa and
Leo Mann. Larry Ward cut his arm and received
first aid from our helpful waiter, but despite his
injuries, everyone had a great time. Thanks to
Janet for planning such a fun event.

Captain’s Quarters
Palm Desert Weekend Report The OCV “Fun in the Sun” weekend lived up to
its name for the 19 OCV members who
attended the event from Apr 6-9. There was lots
of good food, golf, shopping, relaxation, and
fun. The group left on Thurs morning, stopping
for shopping at the Cabazon Outlets on the way
to the Inn at Deep Canyon. Then everyone hit
the pool and unwound with drinks and snacks.
Dinner was at the Fisherman’s Market & Grill.
On Fri, there was shopping, golf and massages.
Friday night was the all-you-can-eat seafood
buffet featuring lobster, crab and shrimp at
Augustine’s Casino. On Saturday, the group
travelled to Borrego Springs for the day to see
the desert sculptures and cactus flowers in
bloom. After a long day on the road, pizza was
delivered to the hotel so everyone could
unwind. On Sunday morning, everyone enjoyed
breakfast at Manhattans in the Desert before
heading home.
The schedule has been set for next year. The
weekend will be April 5-8. It is not too early to
book a room for next year as all of this year’s
attendees have already reserved their rooms
for next year. You can call the Inn at Deep
Canyon at (760) 346-8061.
We are interested in hearing from past
attendees about the trips and restaurants that
they liked and activities they would be
interested in attending during the weekend. The
trip changes every year and we hope to keep it
fun for everyone. Let us know your ideas!
At Augustine’s Casino on Friday night, the OCV group
enjoyed a great dinner of shrimp, crab and lobster tails and
still had enough room to have more dessert when we
returned to the hotel. Go figure..

The 130 full-sized metal sculptures were displayed across
several miles of desert.

Hornblower Boat Cruise
Scheduled for 2017 OCV
Holiday Party
The 2017 OCV Holiday party will be held on Dec
9 aboard a Hornblower Yacht cruise ship leaving
out of Newport Harbor. We will cruise Newport
Beach in style. Our 3-hour tour will sail at 1 PM
and return to the dock at 4 PM. Our cruise
includes an elegant sit down dinner with salad,
entrée and dessert. Complimentary champagne
is served when you come onboard. Although the
regular cruise price is over $100 per person, the
cost to OCV members is only $50 per person.
The Board approved paying for half of the cost
for OCV members as a special holiday offering.
Single members may bring one guest at the
discounted price. Since the ship holds over 100
passengers additional guests may also be
invited, but they are not eligible for the
discounted price. Dress is dressy casual/festive
attire. Our hosts for this event are Janet Cherry
and Joe Orsini. See the flyer on page 23 for
more info.
June 3 SCCCC Cottonwood
Car Show Canceled The 2017 June 3 SCCCC Cottonwood Car
Show has been canceled due to problems with
Cottonwood double-booking 2 events at their
venue on the same date. It was too late to find
another site so the show is canceled.
Page 7 May 2017 O C Vettes Orange Pits Newsletter
Saturday, July 15th is the date of the 6th Annual
OCV Poker Run. This is a major fundraiser for
the club and a fun activity too. All members are
encouraged to attend. Mark Shearer and Leo
Mann have laid out the course, which should
take approximately 2 hours to complete. The
course will end up at Citrus Café for lunch,
awards and raffle prizes. See flyer page 19.
There will be a planning meeting on May 10 at
Citrus Café so Paul Kerper can hand over
supplies for the run and all details can be
finalized.
There will need to be lots of raffle prizes to win
for those who have lucky tickets. It’s time to
contribute items to be used for raffle prizes.
Please bring any items you are donating to the
June Business Meeting. Think of items for both
men and women. All types of items are
welcome, including any type of alcohol, gift
cards to restaurants, movies, etc, household
items, small appliances (e.g.. popcorn poppers
or similar items), Corvette accessories, and car
care items. If you have items that can be
grouped together to make a gift box or basket, it
would be appreciated if you can assemble them
before giving them to the prize committee.
Please be sure that items are new and in good
condition. The more prizes we have, the more
popular the event will be with other clubs.
Donations are tax deductible. Lets make this
the best year yet!

2018 Corvette Specs Reprinted from Apr 13, 2017 NCM News

General Motors has released the 2018 Corvette specs,
product information and ordering guide - and while
neither a rumored ZR1 or "Zora" mid-engine were
listed in the materials, we were excited to see the
'Carbon 65' special edition, marking the marque's
milestone anniversary.
The new Ceramic Matrix Gray offered on the Carbon
65 replaces Sterling Blue for exterior colors for 2018.
While the new options do not present drastic changes
to the car, they are carefully cultivated offerings which
allow buyers to truly build their dream car. Chevrolet
is commemorating the 65th anniversary of the Corvette
with a new Corvette Carbon 65 Edition offered on
2018 Grand Sport 3LT and Z06 3LZ models.
Limited to only 650 numbered vehicles globally, the
distinctive Carbon 65 blends visible carbon-fiber
exterior elements — notably, a new carbon-fiber rear
spoiler and quarter ducts — with a new Ceramic
Matrix Gray exterior color and special interior
appointments, including a new carbon-fiber-rimmed
steering wheel.
“Corvette is one of the most storied names in
Chevrolet and sports car history, with a heritage few
can match,” said Paul Edwards, U.S. vice president
Chevrolet Marketing. “The new Carbon 65 Edition
honors that legacy, while offering customers another
unique, special-edition model that personalizes the
ownership experience.”
The Carbon 65 Edition package (order code Z30) will
include:
• Available on Grand Sport 3LT and Z06 3LZ trims
• Ceramic Matrix Gray exterior (blue top on
Convertibles)
• Unique fender stripes and door graphics
• Black wheels with machined grooves paired with
summer-only tires (Cup-style wheels for Grand
Sport and Blade-style wheels for Z06)
• Blue brake calipers
• Visible carbon-fiber ground effects, hood section
and roof (Coupe models) or tonneau inserts
(Convertible models)
• New visible carbon-fiber spoiler (all models) and
quarter intake ducts (Coupe)
• Center caps with Carbon logo
• Carbon Flash badges and outside mirrors
• Jet Black suede-wrapped interior w/ blue stitching
• Carbon-fiber steering wheel rim and gloss carbon-
fiber interior trim
• Competition Sport seats
• Carbon 65 Edition sill plates
The Corvette Carbon 65 Edition package will cost
$15,000 and will be available this summer, along with
the rest of the 2018 Corvette lineup.

were built that year, each of them Polo White
with a red interior.
