More Furniture field. Leo-

nard Hilldale, owner of the

above mentioned business,

attended the meeting and

assured us of his intentions

to work with us for the suc-

cess of the show. By the

way, Leonard is now in the

process of becoming our

newest member.

We also began to plan for a

weekly cruise-in at the

Beds 4 Kids location to help

raise monies for the re-

building of Owego after the

flood. As a post note to this

plan, the proceeds look at

this time to be going to re-

place equipment that was

partment

(Continued page 2)

Our annual breakfast meet-

ing was held April 21st at

the Blue Dolphin in Apala-

chin, New York. We had 24

members in attendance.

There was a slight mix-up

in the reservation that

caused some quick maneu-

vering to fit us in that re-

sulted in an unusual meet-

ing format.

I regret that as a result of

the above mentioned com-

plication, we failed to have

a report from both the sec-

retary and the treasurer.

In fact the meeting was

conducted while the meal

was being eaten!

The main concern was the

condition of The Hickories

Park and the likelihood of

us being able to hold the

car show there. We had

been informed that the

park would open for day

use on April 23rd, but there

would be no electric, water,

or sewer connected in time

for the opening or even in

the foreseeable future.

We also learned that the

entrance only had a tempo-

rary bridge and the deci-

sion as to the permanent

bridge was still being de-

bated. To make matters

worse there was no plan to

pave the temporary road-

way or even make it more

accessible for trailers!

After much discussion, a

motion was made, sec-

onded and voted on to relo-

There will be a Barbeque pit in-

stalled at the Beds 4 Kids location

by Leonard and his people as well

as a restored 100 year old 6

burner gas stove with double oven

for the use of the local organiza-

tion that will benefit from the pro-

ceeds.

The plan is to open the cruise-in

to all car clubs in the southern tier

with little or no effort on the part of

Tioga Region as to the operation of

the event. I do though urge all our

members to support this program as

this is a much needed fund raiser for

our flood victims. It is possible that

we will have other organizations that

will be recipients of the proceeds as

the summer progresses.

During the April meeting, Bob and

Lois Holmes suggested that we

might enjoy an additional dinner

meeting for the summer. As a re-

sult the Holmes and the

Klingensmiths enjoyed a lunch at

the Parkview Restaurant. in Owego.

This historic building was built in

the eighteen hundreds and, al-

though it was hit by the flood, is

now well on the way to becoming a

showcase restaurant in downtown

Owego. We will be meeting at this

location on May 21st at6:00PM.

The menu for our meeting has been

chosen to make it easier for the

staff to accommodate a large

group while appealing to a varied

diet.

The three dishes that we have cho-

sen we hope will meet the taste

needs of all. Menu

1. Pulled Pork sandwich with cole

slaw and mac & cheese $7.95

2. Irish Beef Dip and cole slaw tender

slices of beef with melted cheese on

a toasted hard roll with aujus for

dipping. $7.25

3 Broiled Talapia on Rice with vege-

table and bakery fresh roll. $7.95

Beverage, tax, and tip extra.

Parkview Restaurant 145 Front

Street Owego. Plenty of parking be-

side the restaurant.

Please call Lois Holmes for reserva-

tions 607-748-9657 by Friday 5/11.

May Meeting.

The safety banners have

come in already! These

Bright orange flannel

backed banners will be

hard to miss on the back of

our cars when we are on

tour. I was a little sur-

prised to see that the AACA

logo was in the tan of the

fabric on the orange back-

ground.

I ordered ten banners and

nine of them were spoken

for. That means that there

is one banner still available

to the first to call for it.

As soon as the banners

came in I took them to All

Star Sports and for an ad-

ditional $5.00 had the club

name and the words “on

Tour” added. This addition

is in black against the or-

ange background.

The banners are a good

way for us to get our name

out there for the public to

know we are around, as

well as trying to keep our

group together on tour.

I would like to go to Conclu-

sions, but you have to jump,

and I’m not too much into

physical activity anymore

since my retirement.

I have also been in Doubt.

That is a sad place to go,

and I try not to visit there

too often.

I’ve been in Flexible, but

only when it was very im-

portant to stand firm.

Sometimes I’m in Capable,

and I go there more often

as I’m getting older.

One of my favorite places

to be is in Suspense! It

really gets the adrenalin

flowing and pumps up the

old heart! At my young age

I need all the stimuli I can

get my hands on!

Life is too short for nega-

tive drama and petty

things. So laugh insanely,

love truly and forgive

quickly.

From one unstable person

to another….I hope every-

one is happy in your head-

we’re all doing pretty good

in mine!

A good laugh can be infec-

tious it’s time to share!

My Inconclusive Travel Plans for 2012

I have been in many places,

but I’ve never been in Ca-

hoots. Apparently, you can’t

go there alone. You have to

be in Cahoots with some-

one.

I have also never been in

Cognito. I hear no one rec-

ognizes you there.

I have, however been in

Sane. They don’t have an

airport, you have to be

driven there. I have made

several trips there, thanks

to my bosses, work, and

politicians who affect my

life, not to mention my chil-

dren.

Page 6: May 2012 News Letter

In an attempt to make your

newsletter more useful and

informative, I am borrow-

ing information from other

sources. I don’t feel that it

is plagiarism if I put into

my own words the gist of

the information without

actually copying word for

word the article from Old

Car Weekly.

A collector car, regardless

of vintage, often needs an

extra touch of pin striping

to give the car a finished

appearance. Unfortunately

pinstripes take more care

by hand than I am willing to

tackle.

Enter the modern method

of pinstripe tape. A good

quality pinstripe tape can

be bought in rolls of 150

feet or less, check with an

auto parts store. Select the

color you need and meas-

ure the areas to estimate

the length you need. You

will want to buy all you

need at the same time as

each roll has the tendency

to change color from roll

to roll.

Sometimes a car calls for a

single stripe but the tape

comes in parallel stripes of

different widths. Simply cut

the clear adhesive section

to separate one from the

other.

Keep your hands clean at

all times when working the

tape and avoid kinks or

pulls that will stretch it.

A steady hand, warm tem-

perature, dry conditions,

good natural light, no dis-

tractions, and a good eye

for a straight line are all

important. It’s best not to

talk when working.

Peel the backing, press the

tape I n place, then peel off

the top layer. If the tape

needs to be re-stretched,

do so before it is rubbed

firmly on the surface and

before the top layer is re-

moved.

When working the area be-

tween the body and the

door, you can wrap about a

quarter of an inch of tape

around the panel. Slice with

an x-acto knife and press

flat with a steady hand. The

tape should be rubbed in

the final position with a

clean soft cloth. It may take

72 hours in sunlight and

warm temperatures for the

tape to bind with the sur-

face.

Don’t go wild with pin strip-

ing, use it sparingly and

where appropriate. If pos-

sible check factory litera-

ture for location and type

of pin striping that was

used. You might also check

with the owners of other

cars for their advice.

If your car is like my Monte

Carlo, it came with pin

stripes that have started to

show their age. An after-

noon spent with tape will

bring back the crisp

stripes you could have

seen on the show room

floor. Good Luck.
