The Annette Strauss Institute’s Texas Civic Ambassador Program (TCA) seeks to identify and cultivate student leaders around the state that will work toward reversing trends of disengagement and en-courage more young people to get involved in the civic life of their communities and on their college campuses.

Selected students will serve as Annette Strauss Institute Texas Civic Ambassadors for one full academic year (2016–2017) and must apply via the online application in the spring of the academic year before they are selected. Applications are due by June 1, 2016.

Each Ambassador will work with Institute staff to develop a project or outreach focus for the year they serve. Projects are based on the individual interests of the students and should apply to their own community or college campus.

Texas Civic Ambassadors will be invited to attend New Politics Forum (NPF) summer and fall events in Austin including Campaign Bootcamp, 21st Century Civic Engagement Conference, Texas Tribune Festival, Careers in Politics Conferences, and Post-Election Debriefings. Ambassadors will also receive special training, scheduled for Sept. 23, 2016.

A&M-Texarkana students accepted into the Texas Civic Ambassadors program may apply for the spring 2017 Political Science Internship (PSCI 490) and coor-dinate their civic community projects with Political Science Professor Gary Bugh and the City of Texarkana. To qualify for the in-ternship, students need at least a 2.75 GPA and completion of one or more upper-di-vision Political Science courses.

For more information about the Texas Civic Ambassador Program and the online application, see https://moody.utexas.edu/strauss/npf/texas-civic-ambassadors-pro-gram. For the PSCI 490 internship, contact Political Science Professor Gary Bugh at 903-223-3127, [email protected], or UC225.
