APPLICATIONS
Today’s Manufacturing business
environment relates to:
• Manage resource reduction & operating
efficiencies
• Assure product quality
• Manage manual processes with fewer people to do
the right things right
• Execute business rules to move material
CHALLENGES
Need for tool that:
• Creates, modifies and tracks work processes real-
time and easier
without stressing your IT resources
• Immediately addresses production issues
increasing quality and efficiency and reducing
waste / costs
• Integrates the M’s of Manufacturing: Manpower,

2016 Sales - Belgium
VW Golf
Belgium : 16.683
VW Jetta
Belgium : 193
In Belgium (and in Europe), Jetta is a failure. Why does VW spend money to engineer, produce and sell such a car ?
7
VW Golf
World : 648.000
VW Jetta
World : 745.000
From a global point of view, Jetta is the most sold VW worldwide since several years. A big share of VW profits comes from that car, less expensive to engineer and produce than a Golf.

Why 1.0 ? Why 2.0 ?
Why 3.0 ?
10
Internet. Since 1990’s. Most famous companies of the world (and richest) are now IT companies : Google, Apple, Facebook…
Some effects of Industry 4.0 on private life
Why 4.0 ?
• 99,99% that hydrogen pressure in nuclear reactor will not change• 0,01% that hydrogen pressure increases dramatically
Would you continue to produce nuclear power during a global control room failure ?
Would you drive your plant like this ?
Solution is simple : Maintenance 4.0
13
INNOVATIVE SOLUTION
• Wi-care:• Wireless sensor.
• Semi-continuous system.
• Long-Life Battery : 5 years.
• No maintenance cost
• Patented tool
More than 5000 sensors already working today!

You may say I’m a dreamer…
Is Maintenance 4.0 a dream ?
Is Maintenance 4.0 rocket science ?
Definitely not, since 2014, more than 5000 Wi-care units are connecting assets together worldwide, sending millions of data
every second, detecting failures everyday and providing to maintenance managers live informations to justify budgets to the
boardroom through I-see !
18
What was our digitalisation process?
• Start in 2004 in LME by Fabrice Brion and Arnaud Stievenart
• First started with CM
• 1st : big step in this process : Drive and NAS
• 2nd : Wi-Care development = Wireless tool
• 3rd : iSee development
Two ways of improvement :
1. External via customer solution
2. Internal via IOT tool
POSSIBLE FOR ANY COMPANY

What we do –Our approach for smart monitoring
1. Who we are
2. What we do
3. Case 1
4. Case 2
5. Case 3
Our monitoring is NOT a lot of basic sensors everywhere.
Our approach:
• Measure directly what is accessible. Even if it is very complex.
(high sampling rate, 3D measures…)
• Extract direct information.
• What is not directly accessible: correlations / physical rules between
other simple and inexpensive measures.
• All those measurements are processed in real time, correlated with old
results, with all useful data about the process, the product…
• In (nearly) real time, faults are detected.
• All the data / measurements / analyses are accessible in real time, via
the web, to any authorized person.

Notes :
Added value :
Our databases are essential tools to understand the dysfunction
and provide a solution. (always physical meaning)
Brain and even a part of the DB locally
(speed of decision, limit transfers and storage, autonomy if
transmission bug.)
Possibility of self-learning system ( risk of instability).
Always: very precise measurements,
of high quality,
and as little as possible
physical rules (no magic algorithm)
04/2018 - #7Case 1: Automated in-line non-destructive inspection
• Framework: H2020 project – Factories of the Future – FoF-07-2017
• Website: http://lay2form-project.eu/
• Main objectives:
o Reduced production cost and time (inspection 6 to 8 times faster than US technique)
o Resource efficiency improvement (waste decreased, recycling)
o Strengthened global position of European manufacturing industry
o Low capital investment solutions for SMEs
• Our task: Development of an automated in-line quality diagnosis system by combining and
integrating vision, shearography and thermography, i.e. robotized full field and contactless non-
destructive inspection techniques to control large parts with complex geometry
• Our deliverable tailor-made software development for data management, i.e. acquisition, analysis,
processing, archiving

1. Who we are
2. What we do
3. Case 1
4. Case 2
5. Case 3
• Context:
o Coils welded together to ensure process continuity
o Welding = weak section
o In case of failure: 2 or 3 days off
• Solutions:
o Acquisition of all relevant data process
o New sensors (profile, T°, force, speed, current, etc)
o Tailor-made software for
▪ Real-time diagnosis
▪ Long term maintenance and process optimization
• Features
o Multi-sensor platform
o In-line quality control
o Data archived in a local database for long term applications
o Remote access
o Objective: zero-defect
• Results
o Number of defects reduced by > 50% within the first year (without any training of the system)

We try to give answers with very up-to-date solutions open to the near future.
BUT :
- In that field, the future can be tomorrow;
- Sometimes very exciting solutions will never arrive.
So it's very difficult and time consuming to try to be in the good trend.
