NMRA Matching Funds Application Form 1. Miami Valley Division3, Mid-Central Region. 2. 2018 Division 3 TRAINing Day This was the seventh year for this event. It started as a way for members and the public to sit down with someone who had expertise in an area of their interest. Allowing for a one-on-one discussion, demonstration, explanation, or information type event. There was no set timetable to go from station to station. They could stay as long as they liked and visit only what they wanted to. As shown in the attached flyer and floor plan, members were offered 26 stations to visit to have their questions answered, not counting the free lunch. Two stations allowed hands on running to solve switching problems. The venerable Time Saver Switching Layout and “The Argyle”, which had you switching a textile mill. These were HO gauge. Another station was building a G scale layout that could be used outdoors or indoors. Three hands-on stations were available. One was a 4’ by 4’ layout built by the youth. There was a drawing at the end of the day and the layout went home with one lucky builder. The adults could help with 2’ by 4’ modular N scale section. Build with the Experts station was where you could bring a kit and get suggestions and help for the best way to build it. This station was also part of our “Win It-Build It-Run It” drawing. The winners choose a car kit, visited the “Build with Experts” to put it together and then go to “The Argyle” to run it.

2. 2018 Division 3 TRAINing Day

This was the seventh year for this event.

Four stations demonstrated how to have a layout in a small space. The one room had layouts designed to run in a glass topped coffee table and layouts of various themes built in suitcases, one of which showed the stages of suitcase construction. In another room were three HOn30 layouts that could fit on an end table and a HO trolley layout operating from the overhead wire in a 3’ by 5’ area.

Additional stations covered:

Structure (craftsman kit) buildingTime Saver type switching layout constructionAmerican Flyer and Lionel equipment displayElectric problems with reversing loops and wyes

We believe this event will aid in the retention of members and attract new members by providing an individual with the contacts needed to increase their knowledge, peak their interest, provide them with new ideas and ways to accomplish their modeling desires. By showing layouts done in suitcases, coffee tables and other small spaces was to show that a lot of space is not needed to enjoy model railroading.
