Why sport and performance psychology?

• Sport psychology is a growing field in the Netherlands and worldwide

• Athletes know that a psychologist can help them perform better

• Psychologists can also help improve performance in other domains (dance, music, first responders, etc.)

• This awareness is still growing

What are you trained for?

• You become an advisor to people who are trying to achieve goals

• Step 1: Clarifying the goal

– Swimmer: ‘I want to compete in the Olympics’

– Musician: ‘I want international success.’

– Football player: ‘I want to be the best football player.’

• Sport and performance psychology is something for entrepreneurs

• But: sport and performance psychologists are popular in the business and consultancy sector

Four courses (24 ecs) from September 1st until December 31st

1. Essential sport and performance psychology (6 ecs)• How can money be used improve performance?

2. New horizons in sport and performance psychology (6 ecs)• How do you build a high-performance organization?

3. Methodology: Analyzing, Presenting, and Scientific writing (MAPS; 6 ecs)• How do you convert a performance-related question into a methodologically sound study?

4. Interventions in sport and performance psychology (6 ecs)• How to deliver psychological interventions

1. Intership (18 ecs)

Entry requirements

1. Bachelor in psychology

• Any specialization is ok

• Other bachelor than psychology? maybe: pre-master programme

2. Basic knowledge of sport psychology (6 ecs)

• Current topic: Introduction to sport and performance psychology (UvA course, starting in September 2021)

• Maybe: Introductory course in sport psychology at a university abroad (online)

• Maybe: entry test (exam only, no grade, no credits, no resit)

Pre-master programme

When?

• When you do not meet all the entry requirements

How to find out if it is possible?

• When you apply for the mastertrack your application is checked

• After this check you are informed if a pre-master programme is possible
