Classes for 2020 In a few weeks, teachers will meet to establish classes for 2020. The process for this is as follows: ● Teachers of the current year level will confer regarding the placement of children into the next year level. This way, the staff members who best know your children make professional judgements about the most appropriate placements. ● Teachers consider a variety of criteria, including but not limited to: 1. Information raised by the children or their parents throughout the year, often of a confidential or sensitive nature, and from an individual and/or group perspective 2. The balanced distribution of students’ levels of academic achievement and needs 3. The social, intellectual, emotional or physical needs of individual students 4. Friendship networks 5. Social relationships, for example those that work and those that don’t. These change from year to year and over time. ● Classes are not to be streamed. No class should have a disproportionate share of one need over another. ● Whilst priority is given to the criteria outlined above, there may be
particular information not mentioned above that you, as the parent or
caregiver, may like considered as part of this process. If you would like to
share some information at this time of the year, please do so in writing
(letter or email), addressed either to your child’s class teacher or to me by
Friday, 22 November 2019.

Intention to apply for Year 7 entry to a Selective High School in 2021 Selective high schools cater for academically high potential and gifted students who may otherwise be without sufficient classmates of their own academic standard. Selective schools help these students to learn by grouping them with students of similar ability, using specialised teaching methods and materials. Selective high schools are unzoned so parents can apply regardless of where they live. Applications for selective high school placement are considered mainly on the basis of the Selective High School Place-ment Test results and school assessment scores. The Selective High School Placement Test will be held on Thursday 12 March 2020. If you would like to have your child considered for Year 7 selective high school entry in 2021, you need to apply on the internet using a valid email address (not the student’s email address). Detailed instructions on how to apply online are available at: https:// education.nsw.gov.au/public-schools/selective-high-schools-and-opportunity-classes/year-7
