Volume 20 EASTER SUNDAY OF THE RESSURECTION OF THE LORD April 12, 2020

Page 3

My Dear Friends of Mary, Mother of Divine Grace, As a parish community we come together from our homes and spiritually unite in a prayer to celebrate Easter— the Resurrection of Jesus Christ!

Special Blessing So many people across the globe, including myself, were so touched to see Pope Francis on March 27th give a special blessing to the entire world, which is called: “Urbi et Orbi.” It was very emotional to see the Pope praying in the rain with just a few people, and an empty St. Peter’s Square. The most important moment was the special blessing when Pope Francis, using a monstrance containing the Blessed Sacrament, in the name of Jesus Christ, blessed the entire world asking God for protection and the end of this global pandemic. The image itself was so powerful! No comments needed. Have you no faith? Pope Francis said these words of meditation before the special blessing:

“Why are you afraid? Have you no faith”? Faith begins when we realize we are in need of salvation. We are not self-sufficient; by ourselves we flounder: we need the Lord, like ancient navigators needed the stars. Let us invite Jesus into the boats of our lives. Let us hand over our fears to him so that he can conquer them. Like the disciples, we will experience that with him on board there will be no shipwreck. Because this is God’s strength: turning to the good everything that happens to us, even the bad things. He brings serenity into our storms, because with God life never dies.

The Lord asks us and, in the midst of our tempest, invites us to reawaken and put into practice that solidarity and hope capable of giving strength, support and meaning to these hours when everything seems to be floundering. The Lord awakens so as to reawaken and revive our Easter faith. We have an anchor: by his cross we have been saved. We have a rudder: by his cross we have been redeemed. We have a hope: by his cross we have been healed and embraced so that nothing and no one can separate us from his redeeming love. In the midst of isolation when we are suffering from a lack of tenderness and chances to meet up, and we experience the loss of so many things, let us once again listen to the proclamation that saves us: he is risen and is living by our side...” EASTER 2020 On April 12, 2020, Easter will be different from other Easter celebrations in the past, but the same Jesus Christ, who lived over 2000 years ago on earth, is asking each one of us to rediscover the true meaning of life on earth and promised hope of resurrection in heaven. If you take your time, think and pray about it, you will discover a very powerful message! At the end, it will be a deep and intimate conversation between you and Jesus! Moreover, the same Jesus is asking us to keep and share the faith! We are truly encouraged to support one other, especially those who are less fortunate and sick or even dying, during these difficult times. Despite many challenges or even doubts, let us trust in Jesus who won with suffering, death and after three days resurrected, as He promised! Let us also invoke in the name of Mary, Mother of Divine Grace, our mom, whom we share in common, asking for comfort, strength and hope. Have a Blessed Easter and stay united with one another in spirit, thoughts and prayers. With the gift of Easter Prayer, Fr. Marcin Szczypula, Pastor and our Priests, Deacons, Sisters and Pastoral Staff of Mary, Mother of Divine Grace Parish WE MISS YOU, but please continue your financial support and stay in touch with our Parish through our website, marymotherofdivinegrace.org, email blasts, Facebook and Bulletins.

There is a brevity, a certain terseness, in the scripture readings

for Easter Sunday. Peter’s speech in Acts is built of direct, pointed sentences. Paul’s letters are based on straightforward creed-like statements. Even the Gospel story only briefly recounts what will turn out to be one of the most remarkable events in human history—the resurrection of Jesus from the dead. Advertising agents call these encapsulated points of information “bullet points.” Scripture scholars call them kerygmata, or “kernels” of our faith. Actually, “kernels” or “seeds” are good terms for these statements, since throughout the Easter season, we will hear in the Acts of the Apostles, the Letters of Paul, and the Gospel accounts of the days following the Resurrection exactly how these kerygmata began to flower, how they continued to grow through the life of the early church. May these Easter “seeds” of faith serve a similar purpose for us, too, so that the life of the Risen Christ will flourish in us and through our witness in the coming days. Copyright © J. S. St. Vincent de Paul Society Everybody Needs Somebody Sometime... A quick internet search of the phrase "Everybody Needs Somebody Sometime" produces the lyrics of several songs that were popular in their time period. Though the words may have a special meaning in each of the songs, the sentiment is universal. We are not alone in the world, and sometimes each of us needs a little help in our own lives.

The people of Mary, Mother of Divine Grace Parish are served by a group of St. Vincent de Paul Society volunteers working out of both worship sites. The Divine Infant SVDP Group can provide help to those needing emergency, temporary, or ongoing assistance in the form of food or other aid.

If you need help, or know someone who needs help, please call the Divine Infant rectory at 708-865-8071 and someone from our St. Vincent Group will contact you. All information is strictly confidential.

Your continued financial support of our parish is greatly needed and

appreciated during this time. Thank You!

Legend holds that lilies sprang from the ground where the tears of Jesus dropped

during his final hours. The popular Easter lily we use today to celebrate the holiday is referred to as ‘the white-robed apostles of hope.’ The flower retells the resurrection story with its life cycle. These snow-white flowers symbolize new life and hope.

The bulb of these flowers buried in the ground represents the tomb of Jesus and the glorious white

trumpet-like fragrant flowers which grow from the bulbs symbolize His life after death. The snowy white color stands for the purity of the Divine Savior and the joy of the resurrection while the trumpet shape signifies Gabriel.

"Tonight, before falling asleep think about when we will return to the street.

When we hug again, when all the shopping together will seem like a party.

Let’s think about when the coffees will return to the bar, the small talk, the photos close to each other.

We think about when it will be all a memory but normalcy will seem an unexpected and beautiful gift.

We will love everything that has so far seemed futile to us.

Every second will be precious.

Swims at the sea, the sun until late, sunsets, toasts, laughter.

We will go back to laughing together.

Strength and courage.

See you soon! "-Unknown

April 12 *EASTER SUNDAY OF THE RESSURECTION OF OUR LORD*

Today, we celebrate Jesus’ victory over death. He is risen! Death is not the end. But the Resurrection is not the end either. The world did not end on that first Easter Sunday. Those who discovered the empty tomb ran to tell the other disciples. The disciples, who would soon be visited by the resurrected Jesus, were sent out to convey the good news to the ends of the earth. Those witnesses, evangelized by the original disciples, were called in turn to give witness to others. Generation after generation, the testimony continued. Now, dozens of generations later, we receive the Risen Lord through the word and the Eucharist, then attest to his abiding presence in our lives. In doing so, we follow in the footsteps of Peter and Paul, testifying in word and in action to the One who loves us, forgives us, and has redeemed us. We put ourselves in God’s hands, readying ourselves for the new yeast. Like a fresh batch of dough, with new yeast, we too shall rise. With this in mind, we renew our baptismal promises every Easter. Promising to serve God by our lives, we are reborn with water and the Holy Spirit, assured forgiveness of our sins, and graced with the promise of eternal life by the One who has conquered death and sin. How can you witness to the promise of the Resurrection in the way that you live? FIRST READING A Reading from the Acts of the Apostles Acts 10:34a, 37-43

RENEWAL OF BAPTISMAL PROMISES

Dear brothers and sisters, through the paschal mystery we have been buried with Christ in baptism, so that we may walk with him in newness of life. And so, now that our Lenten observance is concluded, let us renew the promises of Holy Baptism, by which we once renounced Satan and his works and promised to serve God in the holy Catholic Church. And so, I ask you:

Do you believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth? I do.

Do you believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was born of the Virgin Mary, suffered death and was buried, rose again from the dead, and is seated at the right hand of the Father? I do.

Do you believe in the Holy Spirit, the Holy Catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting? I do.

And may almighty God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ who has given us new birth by water and the Holy Spirit, and bestowed on us forgiveness of our sins, keep us by his grace, in Christ Jesus our Lord, for eternal life. Amen.

Text of the Renewal of Baptismal Promises from the New Roman Missal, 3rd Edition.
