CUSTOMERS

We’ll be involved in B2C marketing. We’re mainly targeting the women in the state of Gujarat through direct selling.

COMPETITION

We’re planning to sell our products in the state of Gujarat after producing in Himachal Pradesh. As Gujarat has a number of shipping ports and a special economic zone or the free-

Page 14: Marketing Plan

trade zone, the companies producing cosmetics export there products instead of selling locally. Thus, we do not have any direct competitors. Although, due to the rise in online shopping we face almost all brands in the cosmetic industry as our indirect competitors.

NICHE

The current trend demands for herbal and allergy free cosmetic products. We have been extra careful in determining the compositions of our products so that our customers can use them at will and never have a complaint regarding their quality.

PROMOTION

We shall promote through the following medium-

Newspapers

Hoardings

Social network advertising

Retail Vouchers

Sponsorship of local events

We’ll be indulging in rigorous promotion for the initial six months. Alternately every month we’ll be advertising in Times of India (Ahmedabad) and Kutchmitra. For the 1st month we’ll give a full page ad in the Times of India and then 36 cubic square sized ad in Kutchmitra for the next month and so on.

The hoardings shall be put up in 10 cities of Gujarat where we plan to directly sell our products.

With the uproar in social network sites, we have another opportunity to widen our customer base. We shall advertise on these sites, particularly Facebook. We shall adopt the CPM method for payment i.e. Pay per click. Anybody on Facebook who clicks on out ad shall be directed to our website.

We shall offer discounted vouchers for our products on the successful retail outlets on some conditional purchase.

Local events attract the local crowd in large numbers. In order to acquire the local customers we plan to sponsor these events such as garba night.

PRICING

Page 15: Marketing Plan

Market-oriented pricing

Setting a price based upon analysis and research compiled from the target market. This means that marketers will set prices depending on the results from the research. For instance if the competitors are pricing their products at a lower price, then it's up to them to either price their goods at an above price or below.

Penetration pricing

Penetration pricing includes setting the price low with the goals of attracting customers and gaining market share. The price will be raised later once this market share is gained.

PROPOSED LOCATION

We are setting up our plant at Baddi in Himachal Pradesh on lease, owing to the fact that we shall get a complete tax exemption there and our suppliers shall be close by that’ll keep high transportation costs at bay. Our head office is going to be situated in this area itself. As we’re selling in Gujarat, we have shortlisted the 10 cities where we’ll be selling in particular namely- Ahmedabad (CG Road, SG Road, Maninagar, Vastrapur), Baroda (Alkapuri, Kareli Bagh), Gandhinagar, Surat, Rajkot and Gandhihdam.

DISTRIBUTION CHANNEL

We intend to sell through retailers as well as indulge into direct selling. We are going to put up our products on websites such as urbantouch.com, snapdeal.com (including some local deals), fashionandyou.com, myntra.com and jabong.com for a wider customer base. We may also trade through our official page on Facebook and Twitter in order to round up the younger lot.

OPERATIONAL PLAN

PRODUCTION

As mentioned, all four of our products will be produced in a factory established in Baddi. Each product has a different method of production. They are as follows-

• Nail polish

Nail polish is made by combining nitrocellulose and plasticizers with color pigments. Then mixing is done in two rolls, which grinds the pigment between a pair of rollers as shown in the figure below

After they are properly mixed, the mixture is removed from the mill in sheet form. This mixture is then broken into small piece so that it can be mixed with solvent. Then the mixing is done in the stainless steel kettle. Stainless steel is used as nitrocellulose react in the presence of steel. The kettle is cooled by circulating cool water around the kettle. The temperature of kettle and the cool water are controlled by computers and technicians. This is shown in the follow diagram:

Page 17: Marketing Plan

At the end of the process, the mixture is cooled slightly before adding perfumes and moisturizers. Than the mixture is pumped into the drums and is sent to the production line. There the finished nail polish is pumped in the small bottles for the market.

• Lipstick

Lipstick is made by melting the raw materials. The raw materials are kept separate in the different containers. This container contains oil, wax and solvents.

Page 18: Marketing Plan

These mixtures are heated separately. Then the solvents and the liquid mixture are added with the color pigment, this mixture is passed through the roller mill to grind the mixture so that the “grainy” feel of the lipstick is removed.

After the pigment is ground and mixed, it is added to the hot wax mass until a uniform color and consistency is obtained. This mixture is to be maintained at the temperature, so that the trapped air can escape. Once the mixture is free of air, it is ready to be poured in the tube so that it can be moulded according to the shape of the tube. The lipstick is cooled and the bottom of the tube is sealed. The lipstick is than visually inspected.

• Foundation

The key ingredients in making liquid foundation are titanium dioxide and zinc oxide. These two ingredients work as a natural sunscreen. It is important to note that we are producing mineral based foundation. The pigments in iron oxide are mixed completely with titanium dioxide and zinc oxide. The amount of titanium dioxide and zinc oxide with iron oxides are used as base to get a particular color and coverage.

• Eye shadow

1. Preparation of the powder cake/ bulk (bulk:-semi manufactured product)

a. Grind mica, kaolin by mixing colors evenly.
