Ports play an essential role in the logistic chain from production to market.

The Port of Zeebrugge has established a Maritime Logistic Zone as a centre for value-added logistics inside

the port area. Very close proximity to the actual port operations guarantees a fast and competitive flow of all

A wide variety of frequent short sea, deep-sea and hinterland links ensure your connection to the markets of

Continental Europe and the UK.

The port of Zeebrugge is ideally located to serve as the gateway to the most prosperous part of Europe, also

known as the “20-40-50 pentagon”. This affluent area covers the industrial and consumer centres of the

Benelux, Paris and northern France, and the German Ruhr area.

The pentagon represents 20% of the EU surface area, 40% of its population and 50% of its gross national

product. In addition, 60% of European purchasing powers is located within a 500 km radius of Belgium.

Belgium is centrally located in the area; from here much of Europe can be supplied at favourable transport

costs and within feasible delivery times (24h/48h). Many European Distribution Centres (EDCs) are located in

this area.

According to several independent international surveys, Flanders (the Northern part of Belgium) scores excel-

lent results as a location for logistics and distribution activities.

World Bank: “Taking into account logistics performance indicators such as customs, infrastructure, interna-

tional shipments, logistics quality and competence, tracking & tracing and punctuality, Belgium ranks 7th in

the list of 155 countries.”

Cushman & Wakefield: “Based on key factors such as the local cost of warehousing, land and employment,

the quality of transport systems and the region’s accessibility, Belgium is the number one logistics country

in Europe.”

Financial Times: “Flanders comes second in the ranking of European regions that are most attractive for

foreign direct investment.”

Ernst & Young: “Belgium is an excellent location for headquarters and logistics operations.”
