The CAIGE annual meeting was held on Monday 6th March 2017 at the Uni-

versity of Adelaide, Waite Campus. Despite the change of dates, about 30

people attended the meeting.

Dr Amer Dababat from CIMMYT-Turkey joined us and presented his work on

Soil Borne Pathogen resistance screening. He kindly represented Dr Ravi

Singh and Dr Karim Ammar from CIMMYT and delivered their presentations

( bread and durum respectively). The presentation from ICARDA (bread and

durum) was delivered by Prof Richard Trethowan on behalf of Dr Tadesse

Wuletaw and Dr Filippo Bassi.

Dr Mark Dieters could not join us physically in Adelaide but still managed to

present the CAIGE-barley report via teleconference.

Dr Ian Edwards talked about his last visit to CIMMYT and how enriching this

event is for the Australian breeders.

Dr Livinus Emebiri came from Wagga Wagga and gave us an exciting update

of his biosecurity project.

All the presentations delivered at the meeting can be found on the CAIGE

website: NEWS >> CAIGE MEETING (or click HERE ).

Please, remember to ask for permission is you wish to use any material from

the presentations. Thank you to all who attended and we hope to see you at

the next year’s meeting as well!

CAIGE Yield trial 2017

Barley– Wheat-Durum

The 2016 shipment was multiplied at Narrabri and

Esperance in 2016. The Esperance Increase was

flooded and the CIMMYT durum wheat shipped too

late to Australia. CAIGE multiplied these lines over

summer in Armidale and Tamworth, which slightly

delayed the plans for CAIGE yield trials in 2017. To

reassure you, the summer increase went very well

and with the high temperature, the harvest will take

place a bit earlier than initially planned. We hope to

have all the seeds packaged and sent to the breed-

ers by mid April. We will communicate any updates

to the breeders.
