March-April 2013 Update :: New Iberian Mission Association (NIMA) :: Mission of Faith ::http://www.missionoffaith.org/Article102.phtml#contents[6/24/13 1:05:07 PM]Everything Is BeautifulHerb Pinney, Agap Christian Church, Las Cruces, New MexicoWhat does the worker gain from his toil? I have seen the burden God has laid on men. Hehas made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the hearts of men; yetthey cannot fathom what God has done from the beginning to end. I know that there isnothing better for man than to be happy and do good while they live. That everyone may eatand drink, and find satisfaction in all his toilthis is the gift of God. I know that everythingthat God does will endure forever. Nothing can be added to it and nothing taken from it. Goddoes it so that men will revere Him. (Ecclesiastes 3:9-14 )Sitting across from my desk in my garage office in our home in Vidor, Texas, was a verynervous Lori and a young man that had just about twisted his shirt tail in two. It was late atnight; we had put the younger kids to bed after the Christmas program at Vidor FirstChristian. A dozen or more college kids were lounging in the front room. Queno had justspent two hours asking for Loris hand in marriage. He had ended the proposition with anultimatum. Loris eyes were as big as real silver dollars; and Queno was twisting his shirt intoa knot. I sat quietly looking at the both of them, doing my best not to break out laughing atthese young people, the teacher and youth worker deluxe and the craftsman-German-trainedcabinet builder becoming a fantastic preacher.Queno had ended his two-hourdissertation in Spanish that Lori hadhelped to translate so I would notmiss the slightest nuance. I nowknew his life history, and where hewas going in the years to come, theLord willing. He had ended with, Ihave promised my God I wouldreturn to San Raymundo,Guatemala, upon graduation tominister at my home church. If youdo not want your daughter to go toand live the rest of her life inGuatemala, I cannot forsake mypromise to God, so I will love herand leave her, and go home alone.I started smiling, then broke into tears as I said, What more could a father-in-law ask than ahusband for his daughter who keeps his promises? Go with my blessings and I will be withyou and your journey all the way."Queno finished school at Colegio Biblico and I was the commencement speaker as I had twosons-in-law graduating in the same class. We loaded the Volvo station wagon that looked 3. March-April 2013 Update :: New Iberian Mission Association (NIMA) :: Mission of Faith ::http://www.missionoffaith.org/Article102.phtml#contents[6/24/13 1:05:07 PM]just like the years of back country travel in Mexico had taken its toll; in fact, it looked like ithad gone through the 2nd World War and lost. They were off to Guatemala. As you look around the campus of Morning Glory and Community Christian Hospital, it ishard to realize the dingy block house that had been used to store chicken manure that wasall that was on the original land when I borrowed the money and made the first step towardour campus. God sure does make all things beautiful in its own time...As for me it has been a wild ride, a share of heartbreaks and a multicity of joy and happiness. It has been like a canoe ride down a wild, rushing mountain stream with whitewater rapidsand jumping falls. The best you can do is to hang on with both hands and pray a lot; you aretotally out of control; the raging river and God have all the control. As one trained in evolutionary geology as well as Deluvian geology, I marvel at the beauty ofGods handiwork here on our privileged planet. One of my favorite places is hidden in theGuadalupe Mountains in Southeastern New Mexico; you know it as Carlsbad Caverns. Thisis, as far as we know, the largest natural cave in the world. It is still only 20% explored andless than 10% developed. The mountain is a very large stratum of limestone that God hascarved into an exquisite thing of beauty to behold. If I were to believe the explanation ofevolutionary geologyand I dontIwould tell you that the caverns are 250million years old, that the cavernstructures took millions of years to formand mold into the thing of beauty thatthey are today. My problem withevolutionary geology is the same as allother things in evolution: the timetablethat is totally arbitrary is always listed inthe millions or billions of years thatnever match with their own scientificinvestigation. For example, our moon is1/400th the size of our sun, and 1/400ththe distance from the sun, and everyso often we get ellipses and with themoon blocking the sun we can see justthe flares, and over the past 150 yearswe have been able to measure thematerial (hydrogen and helium) that thesun burnt up in the nuclear reaction that produces the heat, gravity and light for our part ofthe Milky Way (every second the explosions on the total surface of the sun is equivalent to 1trillion megaton bombs going off, by scientific estimate). By calculating the size of the sun,the amount of fissionable material in the sun, we have estimated that it will burn out in 25million years. Now, I am not losing any sleep on that calculation. However, if the depletingcalculations are correct, and everyone seems to agree that they are, lets reverse theprocess and ask the simple question. How big would the sun have to be, assuming theburning of material rate was somewhat constant, if it indeed had been burning for, say,400,000,000 years? (Not mentioning some scientists suggest a 400,000,000,000-year agefor our part of the cosmos.) Believe me, if it were that big it would have burnt up the earthlong ago. I like to deal with being able to replicate the terms of a hypothesis and try to nd ananswer that fits all the information available. I have to tell you that I am so very dedicated tothe Bible being the inspired and factual word of God that I give great weight to all that it says.Especially when it fits right into the known paleontology, geology, biology, and fossil remainsthat are all good science. There are some very clear geologyfacts that are used by eachmetaphysical philosophy of geology. One, that there is a plethora of sea lifein fossil form all around the area of thecaverns; the evolutionary geology 4. March-April 2013 Update :: New Iberian Mission Association (NIMA) :: Mission of Faith ::http://www.missionoffaith.org/Article102.phtml#contents[6/24/13 1:05:07 PM]speaks of a reef with sponges, bryozoans, and an ancient sea thatbordered limestone mountains. WithDeluvian geology, we show the work ofthe flood recorded in Genesis 6 and 7as having covered the area withthousands of feet of water, leaving all the sea life fossils and so much more. Added to that, beneath the caverns is a shelf of petroleum reserves known as the Mid-Continent Oil fields,in Texas as well as New Mexico; this is called by geologists the Permian Basin. Beneath theoil and over to the west way down under the Tularosa Basin are millions of acre feet ofbrackish sea water; this is being pumped and distilled and used in the area. Both sciences agree that hydrogen sulfide crept up from the petroleum reserves into theground water tables that were among the stratum of limestone and formed sulfuric acid(H20+202=H2SO4). This highly concentrated sulfuric acid went right to work on the limestoneand began to carve out the current caverns. Both sciences agree that at this time there werea number of tectonic plate shifts that aided in the opening up and carving the multitude ofcaverns that make up this giant cave.Where my geology friends part company is in the amount of time and how the tectonic platesshifted and the continents drifted apart, that both claim happened in our earths history. Theevolutionary folks of course bet on millions of years and a slow, gradual shifting of thecontinents until we have the seven continents today, instead of one big one as in the past, with the ancient sea level much lower that it is today.(This illustration is important, but going too long; I will get back to Morning Glory and our 200-year plan very soon!)For us Deluvian geologists, the ood of Noah that was worldwide and covered the highestmountains by fifteen cubits (at least 22.5 feetGenesis 7:20 ; also remember that thatpurpose of the ood was to destroy the utopian world that existed from creation to the floodGenesis 6:9-11 . God says he was directing Noah to save seed to rebuild a new earth, that he was destroying both man and the earth.) I will not go into this here; the minimumnumber of the human population at the time of the ood was about 7 billion humans. Becauseof the worldwide oil reserves, I am guessing closer to 15 billion humans in a perfect climateand world. When I call the world that God rst created a utopian world, it was the place manwas intended to live forever, a place of paradise. Paleontology and fossils have shown usthat one of the largest coal deposits in the world is under 2,000 to 9,000 feet of ice in theAntarctic continent. That between the Arctic Circle and the North Pole is petrified remains ofa fully mature forest of Sequoia Redwoods that take 1,000 to 2,000 years to mature. Withdozens of other hard facts, it shows that the earth was created perfect, with a perfect climatefor running around in your birthday suit if so desired. Even the evolutionary-supportingmagazine National Geographic (Oct. 2011, page 90ff) tells of subtropics growing conditionsat the poles, and of course to explain it in their terms, there was a great worldwide burn-offcausing a great giant carbon footprint that changed the weather, all a warning to us to expectthe same with our puesdo-scientific/political carbon dioxide problems in the world today. Thatmakes about as much sense at the reason the ocean is salty: a Norwegian kings cook oversalted his muffins one morning and to make sure it didnt happen again, the king ordered allthe salt in the country dumped into the sea. Could be, hmm...? Genesis 8:22 tells us thatafter the flood there is now summer, winter, cold and heat; seed time and harvest exist assomething new.Now to wrap this up. Water weights 62.4 lb/ft3 with variations due to temperature andatmospheric pressure; if we accept that many of the highest mountain ranges weregeologically forced up during the continent shifts that took place during the flood, we knowthat the ark landed on Ararat at between the 15,000- and 17,000-foot level after the waters 5. March-April 2013 Update :: New Iberian Mission Association (NIMA) :: Mission of Faith ::http://www.missionoffaith.org/Article102.phtml#contents[6/24/13 1:05:07 PM]were receding. If we guess at the depth of the water at 16,000 feet from current sea level, and we multiply 62.43 x 16,000 and do not add in anything for atmospheric pressure changesor temperature, we have some dynamic hydraulic pressure against the continents to force ashift along with hundreds of the Hebrew word, fountain of the deep, that are volcanoes toadd thermo pressure and earthquakes; God could have shifted this world all around in amatter of months. We get a small replication of this with each earthquake and with eachvolcanic explosion. Remember that during WW2, due to the destructive nature of waterpressure in the ocean, we had airplanes that could fly farther below sea level than we hadsubmarines that could dive below sea level. (Airplanes could skim along on top of the DeadSea at 1,296 feet below sea level and submarines were limited to less than 1,000 feet underthe water without being crushed by water pressure. We now have diving bells and redesignedsubmarines that can go a lot deeper.)Whether you believe it happened over 250 million years or in a matter of a few millennia, Godwas at work making something beautiful out of the limestone stratum in the Guadalupemountains of New Mexico. My point is no matter if you accept evolutionary geology orDuluvian geology, there were a multitude of chemical factors, earth pressures, water andheat factors, petrochemicals, and time that worked together to make something beautiful.God always uses the multitude ofelements at hand that He has createdto accomplish His work. This is what ishappening all around us at MorningGlory and all of the New IberianMission Associations work. This pastmonth here in the New Mexico office, Ireceived gifts that were less than $10and gifts above $40,000. God is usingeach gift, no matter the size, to createsomething beautiful at Morning Glory;each and every one is just as importantas every other gift. The act of creatingbeauty and accomplishing the work ofGod is not dependent on the size of theoffering, or the length of the time of themission trip, but on the love and heartof the people involved.Last week a family gave an anonymousgift to buy the two new adjacent tractsof land to the school part of ourcampus, nearly doubling our useableland for the school (the smaller parcelis still having the title verified). Thisaddition does not count the land thehospital is on adjacent to the other sideof the school. This man asked aboutmy 200-year plan that I set out inWoodrow Phillips Philosophy of/andPractical Missions class at OzarkChristian College in 1961.Being a westerner, and a history buff, Iwas very concerned about the olderpart of our western Hemisphere being taken over by the Iberian empire of Portugal and theloose net confederacy of Spanish states. This territory ran from the Ute Mountains near FourCorners, across the Southern United States, to the southern tip of South America at Tierradel Fuego. In 1960 there was a move across the Western Hemisphere toward the Free trade zones thatare making the area one large trading partner today, and economic development that hasmade Brazil a major player in the world of commerce, and a part of the new ChinaRussia 6. March-April 2013 Update :: New Iberian Mission Association (NIMA) :: Mission of Faith ::http://www.missionoffaith.org/Article102.phtml#contents[6/24/13 1:05:07 PM]India monetary group and their planned BRIC currency.I had returned to college, closing out my geology business and coming to Ozark planning totrain to be a builder of new churches and missions while earning my living in the businessworld. I would be a modern day Pauline tentmaker; for the next 50-plus years I have stayedinvolved in the world of business.I had met and taken to church a fellow student at New Mexico Institute of Mining andTechnology, Carl Todacheene. Carl and his family became regulars at Socorro Christian andwhen he graduated I encouraged him to go to church at his home in Two Grey Hills, south ofShiprock. He told me that there were no churches on the Navajo Reservation... that Anglochurches were against the tribal law. That was to be the first peg in my mission plan. Upongraduation as the highest ranking male graduate in 1962, I turned down all the big churchesthat thought they should get to hire the top dog, and went to work in industry and took overthe planting of a church in Aztec, New Mexico. That church, and minister, Rob Conover, andone of the girls in our youth group in the 60s, are great supporters of NIMA today. From herewe broke the wall against churches on the Navajo Reservation while Lori was in gradeschool. Today there are churches everywhere. Then on to reaching south with a plan to turn the old Iberian empirewhich was divided by aPopes decree between the nation of Portugal that landed at Belen or Recife, which was ontheir side of the Popes lineand push to the Occidental at the top of the Andes (in theUnited States we call it the Continental Divide), making the largest land intact county in theWestern Hemisphere, Brazil, where they speak Portuguese. The rest of the empire speaksSpanish and a thousand Indian dialects. My plans all began to come together with the churchat Vidor on the Old Spanish Trail, with Lori going to Colegio Biblico and teaching and makingcontacts all over Latin America. We also had workers in Mexico in cooperating with othermission groups and converts.Linda and her husband went to Bogota, Colombia and began a church. Lindas husband,Edgar Clavijo, and his family are very involved in Christian work on the western side of theOccidental. Linda and Edgar, who now live and work in southeast Texas, keep close contactwith his wonderful Christian family in Bogota and all over Colombia.Lori married Queno and now we have the highly-rated and acclaimed primary school on ourcampus, the new university preparation school that is off and running. These two schools aregiving us highly educated Christian young people that are taking the message of Christ allover Central America. At this point we are right on target at year 52. With the purchase of theland this past month, we now have room to bring our skunkworks preacher training schoolunder the direction of Queno into the light. We have several Christian churches now in thearea, and Queno is training our own preachers. Now we can move into the second half of the first century of the plan. As I told you, I went toBible college to prepare to be a tentmaker church builder. Pauls method of the first centuryis coming back into the forefront in the 21st century. I was told by major Bible college leadersin the 1950s that only preachers that failed at regular ministry would work in the businessworld and try to preach. Now, you have to have the work ethic that you love what you do, andthat you are wired to work 15 or 20 hours a day. God has not prepared everyone for that. You also have to have the ability to orchestrate what you do so you are doing several thingsat the same time. Our USA Bible colleges are not yet in tune to that kind of training, thoughthey are a lot closer today than they were in 1960. So, my future plans for bi-vocationaltentmakers were centered on colleges in Central America or in Colombia. Central America itis. 7. March-April 2013 Update :: New Iberian Mission Association (NIMA) :: Mission of Faith ::http://www.missionoffaith.org/Article102.phtml#contents[6/24/13 1:05:07 PM]Now, with our new land, the work at the Llano in Guatemala is ready to explode. My dearfriends in Dallas a year ago saw the total support of all the people in Guatemala; they sawthe quality of the education and teaching and said that Morning Glory was going to explodeand they needed to raise the money for 20 acres and buildings. Well, that may be coming;here is what is on the table and happening. We finish the high school building this year. Thenthe major next step:Ninety-one percent of the adultpopulation of Guatemala is illiterate. Our 6th grade graduates are going towork for a higher pay check than theirparents make. My 200-year planincludes on the new property aChristian adult trade school whereadults can get a student loan foreducation against future earnings, justas in the United States, only areasonable loan, and can learn basicreading, writing, math, Bible, and atrade. We will be evangelizing amongour students for tentmakers that willtake their trade and go to work where there is a need of a church and they will be trained justas Queno and I have been, to build a career and a church at the same time. While that is getting on its feet and running basically self-supporting, we will be building aschool building for a United States Bible/Christian college or university to come establish anextension Bible college on campus to help with the training of preachers and to handle theBible education on the Christian adult trade school. A USA Christian college or university willprovide the teachers and accreditation for the Bible college, institute, and university oncampus. Our primary school feeds our high school and our trade school. Our high school feeds ourBible college as does our trade school. The end result will be a certain percentage of Spanishand in the future, Portuguese-speaking tentmakers that can get on the new and proposed6-lane freeway from Canada to southern Argentina and Chile and go to work with a UnitedStates of Central America passport. The production of jobs and raw material is going to center south of the schools on the Llanofor the next two centuries if the Lord tarries. And, if He doesnt, who cares?Today, Brazil is a major player in worldpolitics. It was the Brazilians workingwith Iran that got Pastor Youcefreleased from prison. Brazilian industryis not a sleeper. The largest auto plantin the world is Auto Latina in San 8. March-April 2013 Update :: New Iberian Mission Association (NIMA) :: Mission of Faith ::http://www.missionoffaith.org/Article102.phtml#contents[6/24/13 1:05:07 PM]Paulo, Brazil, jointly owned by Ford andVolkswagen. God and industry havebeen focusing on the Old IberianEmpire also; the major new giants inindustry all come from south of theborder. Here is just a partial list ofAmerican companies that are ownedwholly or partly by Brazilian capital. This list does not even notate the jointventures with China in business. The Heinz catsup and food company,Brazilian owned withBerkshire/Hathaway as a minorpartner. Brazilians own Burger King. In2008, with a Belgium partner,Brazilians bought Anheuser-Busch aswell as Budweiser and Bud Light, thebest-selling beer in the USA; theconsortium is run by a Brazilian-bornC.E.O. The money behind this andmany more United States companies and Chinese property and business control is the 3GCapital giant, Jorge Paulo Lemann. The third largest selling manufacturer of aircraft isEmbraer, in Brazil. In the oil industry, Petrobras, Sinopec, and CNOOC are allChina/Brazilian cooperatives, jointly owned. Then there is Vale, the global mining giant. Atthe same time, Mexican company Grupo Bimbo has bought United States giant, Sara Lee, in2011. All of this while our congress has been arguing over how to handle the immigrationproblem so the right party will get their votes. For the past 65 years there has been a braindrain out of Europe and they have all been heading to Southern Africa and the Old IberianEmpire. This is why my 200-year plan is centered south of the border. The first and second half of thesecond century of the plan is to scatter our Morning Glory-trained ministers in industry andcommunities all over the countries of Mexico, Central America and South America. Our goalis to reach this whole empire with King Jesus on the directors throne... and to have Hisservants working, preaching, teaching and loving their way through the Tierra del Sur.Obviously this plan will outlive Lori and me; that is why we are busy recruiting and training theones that will follow us. We are looking for skill, but more, we are looking for heart. Thenagain, this is Gods plan and we are just hanging on to the canoe that is zooming down thatraging wild river headed toward eternity. Our job is to pray, work, and hang on. God is thedirector and the future is in his hands.Everything is beautiful in its own way and in its own time! The one thing I know, if He is designing and building the worlds largest and most beautifulcave, He uses everything at His beck and call. If He is building a Morning Glory complex thatwill have worldwide influence, He will need and use everyone, from everywhere, with allkinds of talents to pull this off. We will need $5 checks and $15 checks from loving widows. We will need property and money left by the wills of those that have supported us for years. We will need monthly gifts from individuals and churches across the world. We will need bankdrafts, checks, and corporation grants in the thousands and hundreds of thousands. Everyone of them is as important as the other; we will need people that have long ago turned offthe TV and are into 15- to 20-hour days for King Jesus. I know if Lori can do it, and if I can doit at 79, then there are others that can join the party, and it is a party. There will be those thatwill take a second job to be able to give more toward the eternal goal of reaching the OldIberian world with a New Iberian Mission Association and Morning Glories will be blossoming 9. March-April 2013 Update :: New Iberian Mission Association (NIMA) :: Mission of Faith ::http://www.missionoffaith.org/Article102.phtml#contents[6/24/13 1:05:07 PM]and blooming everywhere from Four Corners to the southern tip of South America.Bruised Reeds & Broken ChildrenLori Nij, Colegio Cristiano Maana Gloriosa, San Raymundo, GuatemalaHe has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, toproclaim freedom for the captives and release fromdarkness for the prisoners, to bestow on them acrown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil ofgladness instead of mourning and a garment ofpraise instead of a spirit of despair. They will becalled oaks of righteousness, a planting of the Lordfor the display of His spendor.Over the years at Morning Glory my heart hasbroken over and over. Every day I deal withchildren of abuse... children who have been hurtand wounded by the adults and circumstances oftheir lives. There are times when I feel like thereare no more pieces of my heart left to break andeach time I am proven wrong. These last fewmonths have been especially hard. I knew thatwhen I took in new adolescents that they wouldcome with a boatload of baggage. I knew that mychildren had suffered in the few short years theyhad been gone from Morning Glory and I knew that the teenage years bring a whole new loadof hurt and doubt. But I never imagined how much and how important it would be to provide apiece of solid ground and a firm anchor in the lives of my children.I never dreamed that Facebook would give me a chance to help one such lost child. Kevinwas one of my broken children that I lost. We tried so much to help him. He was abandonedat birth with a family that abused him horribly. You would never have known it to see thesmile from ear to ear that was always on his face. He longed for love and affection, longed forattention and was everyones best friend. But from a very young age he would run and hidefrom the abuse of his adoptive family. We tried working with them to make them understandthat beating the child was getting them nowhere. He was too young for the responsibilitiesthat they wanted to place on his eight-year-old shoulders. The family got angry with me andwithdrew Kevin from Morning Glory. For the next couple of years I would see him aroundtown shoveling sand and gravel working for the man he called grandfather. Then hedisappeared and some said he had gone to Guatemala City to work as a helper on thebuses. About a month ago I received a friend request from Kevin on Facebook. I didnt thinkmuch about it because my friend list is filled with students, former and present. They love itwhen I write little notes on their walls or take the time to chat with them when they are on-line. Then late one night a chat bubble popped up on my phone by my bed. I couldnt sleepso I picked it up. It was Kevin; he wanted to chat. Long story short, Kevin had tired of theabuse and ran away for the last time. He had jumped the freight train at the border and wastrying to make his way north through Mexico. Four months into his nightmare journey, he wasreaching out for help. He was afraid, lonely, and at his wits end. His life was in danger andhe was reaching out to the only thing solid in his young life. We chatted long into the night, then I began to try to figure out how to get him somewhere where I could send him money tocome home. He begged a bus ticket to Mexico City and again contacted me via Facebook.Others who had seen my posts got involved and we tried to figure out how to best help him, late into the night I texted with relatives of friends, contacts and anyone I could find whomight be willing to help a lost child. A preacher friend of Susie Bump agreed to take him foodand money and try to help him. Kevins last text to me that night was I knew I could count onyou. Thank you Miss Lori. I slept at peace; however, the next day I learned that the Mexicanimmigration arrested him just as our friend was trying to pick him up. But I gained consolationin knowing that he was able to give the child money, food, and some warm clean clothes, and the immigration people promised that since Kevin was a minor they would take care tosend him directly back to Guatemala. This morning Kevin came by my house, thankful to besafe. For his safety I cannot publicize details of where he is but he is safe and in a sure placewhere he will be cared for and given a chance in life. A lost child has been found. 10. March-April 2013 Update :: New Iberian Mission Association (NIMA) :: Mission of Faith ::http://www.missionoffaith.org/Article102.phtml#contents[6/24/13 1:05:07 PM]Yesterday I sat in my office and listened to the stories of other broken children. A thirteen-year-old girl, daughter of a woman who has had children by countless mena woman whohas no time for her childwho constantly tells her how she wishes that child would findsomewhere else to live. A child longs for her mom to care and to listen to her hurt and doubt. In her desperation she slashed her arms hoping that mom would notice the scars. But a momwho is blind to emotional pain and scars has no time for physical scars. But I saw them andrealized that they were a scream for help. So there I sat with a sobbing teenager in my arms. Her little body shook with pain and hurt. I called her mom to come and meet with us, and mycall was met with I dont have time if she did something bad punish her or kick her out ofschool. I dont care. I wanted to throw my phone through the glass window of my office I wasso angry. Rosa looked at me and her words were: I told you Miss Lori, she doesnt care.WELL, I CARE! We talked for hours about God and His love and how He can be a father forthe orphans and how He can heal her heart and bind up her wounds. Hopefully I put a splinton the broken heart and it can begin to heal with attention and love.Thirty minutes before class was out another sobbing child was sitting in my office. This time itwas one of my new children, an eighth grader whose mom brought her to Morning Glory thisJanuary telling me that she needed discipline and straightened out. The ninth grade boyswere tormenting her and making her life miserable. Somehow I knew the teasing was not thereal reason behind her tears so I began to gently question and gain her confidence. Sureenough, a dose of loving acceptance and the flood gates opened. A story of rape and abusetumbled out, a story of unimaginable hurt hidden and damned up waiting for a safe momentto overflow and explode. Another bruised and broken child, another heart needing mending.Story after story, hurt after hurt. And yet therestands tall and true the young man from years ago, wounded and angry, now a leader in his church. The splint worked; his heart healed. The beautifulyoung lady who is a teacher, once a dropout andfailure, now a college student; the beaten abusedchild who is now studying to be a childpsychologist; story after story, child after child, wounded hearts healed, broken spirits made wholeby the simple, unconditional love of Jesus Christ. The words of Isaiah come to life in the missionstatement of Morning Glory. A place where thebrokenhearted, the wounded spirit can be healedand made whole once again. More than a school, more than a church, more than a hospital... arefuge of love, a safe place, a place of healing andgrowing: Morning Glory. A place where God turnsashes into a crown of beauty, a spirit of despair intoa garment of praise, and a bruised and broken reedinto a solid oak of righteousness. This is the story of my life: it is His story, the Morning Glory story. I invite you to become apart of this simple story of love that impels us to be the hands, the feet, and the heart ofChrist. We need you more than ever. We need your faithful commitment so that we can growand reach out more and more. 11. As they present concerts acrossAmerica, they will take a few minutes to show a DVD about Morning Glory and to tell our story to the crowd. Iknow Jeremyhe will have our story all wrapped up in a musical presentation. We will have ushers pass outa tri-folder that will tell our story and invite people to become sponsors of our children at Morning Glory...andperhaps even plan a short-term mission trip; there is plenty of work. The limited brochure will direct theinterested to our several websites and blogs. The elders at Agape Christian Church invited Neely for a couple of days and waited until after we heard theirconcert and had a backstage party and supper for them to meet the next day; Herb and Dean had carefullyplanned a presentation to them that would bring Morning Glory as the heart of their ministry. Agape Churcharranged the motel rooms for two nights, and several meals and fellowship time at Agapes expense to decideif they would be a good match for our ministry. As Herb and Melba and Kaci and Jeremy met in discussion, the other elders and teachers were in a prayer session in another room of the church to seek Gods will aboutif they would be a good partner and accept the offer.Kaci and Jeremy travel with their children and homeschool them. They work under the direction of LakesideChristian Church in Antioch, Tennessee, and this is a bedroom town that borders on Nashville. Jeremy alsowrites music for other Nashville artists, especial the Christian musicians. They are planning a trip to Guatemalato get to know the kids and staff, and are planning to sponsor a student themselves. We want to encourage you to go to their concerts if one is in your area, or if your church or group would likefor them to come and sing for you, and they can fit it in their partial schedule for the rest of the year. ContactJeremy Neely at their contact form or e-mail at [email protected]. You can also check them outon the web at www.neelymusic.com.They work with a broad section of Christian groups. They assured us that they did not mind singing for a smallchurch; they sang because they loved the Lord and wanted to get His message out, and left the offering up tothe Lord. The Neely couple were brought up in Christian homes in Kansas and became prodigals in their late teens andmet at Barton County Community College in Great Bend, Kansas. They began to sing together in clubs andboth turned 180 degrees to Christ and His church, and today they take the message of Jesus to wherever theycan get invited in secular or Christian settings. At the present time I am scraping the money together to print 3,000 of the tri-fold brochures and get theprofessional DVD done and ready to their concerts. If you would like to know where they are performing therest of the year as far as concerts that have been locked in, go to www.neelymusic.com and click View MoreDates. 12. Since we addedthe university prep school andexpanded our teachingprogram at the primary school, the budget has increased by30%. I have had to shuffle themoney that is coming in tomeet the budget each month. Ihave to send two wires sincenot enough money has beencoming in by the time I need tomake payroll; so, I send thelargest amount that I can getout of the bank, then in aweek or so, I send the rest.Added to the budget this year, weve raised money for Rob for a vehicle as well as the additional property that isadjacent to the current school so no extra roads or access are needed at this time.Rob tells about his car in his section of the Update. For you older folks thatremember the Renault in the mid-1900s, and have mixed memories about them, in thelast quarter of the 1900s, the French government made a very wise move; they fired allof the French government managers, the company went public, and hired the very well-educated son of Albert Schweitzer, the African missionary, Louis, and this young man,and his cooperation deals with other companies, has brought Renault into the 21stcentury with some very good cars, and some hot Formula One racing cars. The Scenicis one of the first European SUVs and was European Car of the Year in 1997. It will fitright in the area of the school and the rough roads since it is front-wheel drive and aseven passenger vehicle.Rob wanted me to remind many of the new sponsors in 2012 that the date of yoursigning up, and the time of your financial renewal is at hand very shortly. Rob andhis new sponsors in 2012 have made our expansion possible. We are so thankful foryou and we desperately need you, and the children need you, to continue yoursponsorship in 2013 and beyond. You folks have made a great difference in themonthly operation expenses. God bless you and thank you for all of your financial help, prayers, and work on the campus and in the San Raymundo area. We now have a staffe-mail address for Rob as well as his old one. You can now also reach him [email protected] Melba, Herbs wife, having been in the hospital and now recuperating at herhome, Herbs schedule has gone back up to 18 to 19 hours a day; please be patient inyour expecting answers and paperwork.Lori tells me that a church out of the Metroplex is coming soon to put down thefoundation for the high school building. Then we can go to work getting it up andgoing by the deadline in 2014. We are looking for many more work teams to camedown and bring money with them to help. Lets all work together to get this next buildingup and equipped. God is good, and so are our partners in Christ.A private note to all my friends in the 2,000+ in our mail and website: I am thankfulfor the invitations to be your friends, links to play games, and all the other stuff thatmakes up the social media. I am not ignoring you, I am not rejecting you... I just donthave time to get involved. It sounds like an excuse, and I personally hate excuses, but Ijust run out of time every day of the week. I have 62 years of sermons in my files, Iwrite fresh print for publication sermons and lessons for each Sunday morning andevening as well as adult Bible class and Wednesday Bible study. Melba and I areinvolved in writing a new book of lessons for our tweens and teens on Boundaries inscriptural, moral, social, and educational life of youth today, plus the material for NIMA,work as the local trustee of SAEM, as well as responsibilities of a very large family. Please forgive me.A Pocket Full Of SeedsDean PinneyIgnacio was a rambunctious nine-year-old who lived on the streets of El Paso. Often hewould come by the church and ask for something to eat or a safe place to take a nap. I wouldalways find something for him to eat and a little something for the road. He didnt want muchmore than just a full tummy and a warm hug every time he came by. I never figured outwhere his family was, or how he ended up here; I only know that for a short time Ignacio wasone of my kids that I took under my wing. He never asked for money, or a handout, andwas always polite. His face was always dirty, but his heart was pure and clean, and thatswhat made him different then most nine-year-olds I dealt with at the time. I would make surethat I always had extra food put up so that when he came by I would always have somethingextra to give him. One day, after a particularly difficult afternoon of dealing with churchpolitics, he stopped by to show me his treasure. He had traded his lucky rabbits foot for abag of seeds. Not just any seeds, but apple seeds. He pulled them from his little pocket andsaid, "Pastor Dean, mira, now I can have my own apples and not have to steal them from themercado." "Where are you going to plant them?" I asked, wondering if he would reveal a clueof where he came from. "There are twenty five seeds; so, I decided that I will plant one ineach place that I go so no one will ever be hungry again." His eyes sparkled with the thoughtof that as his voice could barely disguise his enthusiasm. He had a pocket full of seeds and adream to save the world.Over the next few months, he would tell me about his apple trees...trees that were going togrow in the desert and along the highways. I would smile as I drove around and discovered anew apple tree marker in the middle of nowhere, thinking about Ignacios dream to makesure no one would ever be hungry again. In May of that year, I got a visit from the PoliceChief telling me that Ignacio had been killed in a drive-by gang shooting under a bridge thatwas the focus of a territorial dispute. He had found my card in the boys pocket and had noidea of whom else to contact to come and help identify the body. As I stood at the morguelooking at that lifeless boy, I couldnt help but think of the apple trees all over town. I couldnot forget about his pocket full of seeds and his dream to save the world. In San Raymundo, we have nothing more than a pocket full of seeds. Each child we teach, love, feed, clothe, and save is an investment in the future of feeding the living bread tomillions of spiritually starving people. Every time we kiss a sore knee, or paddle amisbehaving bottom, we are planting seeds of greatness in the soil of mediocrity. Each timewe show mercy and love where neither is merited, we are sowing seeds of grace in the soilof judgment. Each time we have to go back and re-teach a lesson, we are sowing seeds ofpersistence in a soil of giving up. Every time we give them another chance, we are sowingseeds of forgiveness in the soil of condemnation. The soil will often look like the desert, where nothing grows, but amidst the tumbleweeds and cactus are some apple treesspringing up. These trees are giving shade and food to weary strangers and reminding us ofthe value of seeds. Every teacher who works extra-long hours and stays long after class isover just to make sure that our students get it is planting seeds of courage in the soil offear. Every mission team and medical team that generously gives of their resources and timeto come and work with these children is sowing seeds of confidence and faith in a soil ofdoubt and disbelief. Every church that supports the school and the hospital with gifts andfunding is planting seeds of possiblity in the soil of impossible. And every person whosponsors a child or gives to the mission sows seeds of godliness in the soil of godlessness. We have always worked with the funding that God provides through his people, big andsmall. We have never complained about what God gives; we just learn to water the seeds wehave. We refuse to give up, let down, or walk away. We will never be satisfied with goodenough, long enough, or tough enough.Today, we will push harder, love deeper, last longer, live louder, go further than we didyesterday. Today, we will get back up when we are shoved down. Today, we will praisemore, complain less, and give it all. Today, we will set the example for them of Jesus livingand God giving. Today, we will not quit, fight, or focus on us. Today, we will sacrifice more,so that we can be extravagant with Gods blessings to those whom extravagance usuallyavoids. We will ration our desires so that we can lavish on them the desires of Gods heart. 14. March-April 2013 Update :: New Iberian Mission Association (NIMA) :: Mission of Faith ::http://www.missionoffaith.org/Article102.phtml#contents[6/24/13 1:05:07 PM]Today, we will give and not take. Today, we will come together in harmony and send conflictaway. Today, we will cease to be ourselves, and focus on being Jesus. We will love theunlovely, show patience to the aggressor, and share forgiveness with the guilty. We will doso, not because we are great, but becauseGod is great and at one time or another, wewere all listed among these. These are ourseeds. This year, like many before, we willtrain, teach, love, nurture, forgive, encourage, discipline, push, stretch, and grow these kidsmore than they could ever expect. We willexhaust ourselves to make sure that theseseeds get planted along the path of life sothat when the weary stranger comes thirstingfor God, we can have a tree of life for them toeat from and to find shade under when thedesert heat of sorrow and pain bears down.We could just educate them, but we long toteach them so much more. We could just feedthem, but we long to invest in their wholebody, not just their tummy. We could just givethem a house, but instead we want to showthem Gods home. We could just be satisfied with saving them, but our commission goes somuch further. Like Ignacio, we have a pocket full of seeds and a dream; and somehow thatsall we need to save the world.A Means to a BeginningRob Courtney, Colegio Cristiano Maana Gloriosa, San Raymundo, GuatemalaAbout 6-8 months ago, I got an ideaand then placed it in the hands ofGod. After seeing, hearing, and thenthinking about the need (albeit smallsometimes), I asked Lori, then Herbto help me get funds for a car. Theidea was and still is to use the car toserve the school. Long story short,Herb sent me the money that NIMAhad received for my car.A HUGE THANK YOU to all thosewho contributed. Essentially, mysignificant other and I used thetrade-in value of a car she had tomake a deposit on a 2005 RenaultScenic (interesting vehicle). Wewere short about $2000, give ortake, to make the cars ours. Themoney sent by you allowed me tocover most of that, leaving us tocome up with $550 to cover thedifference, which we have.As we drove back to San Raymundo for the first time, we dedicated the car to the service ofthe Lord. I want to be able to help Lori, the school, and even the whole community of SanRamundo with the car. All the time I hear nice car, Rob or Its really pretty. I ALWAYSrespond with Thanks to God, because God provided us with a car under some pretty luckycircumstances. Thank you all for being open to Gods call to help me get such a hugeblessing. My prayer is that I can in turn bless others. In fact, the first day I drove the car to 15. Sure enough, I found three of ourstudents who are not normally late waiting for public transportation. So they jumped in. Evennow, when I drive to school, I rarely arrive or leave without someone else in the car with me. Igive you thanks for the opportunity to serve the community. This is only the beginning. And I see potential. I am making slow but steady strides into investing something worthwhilein the students. I love the nicknames Papa Rob or Uncle Rob because they are a verygood sign of acceptance and appreciation. It shows me that one day I might have somethingthat resembles the relationship that Lori has with San Raymundo: one of respect and love. But these fun names arent the best.I have been reaching out to one family in particular: a young man, Erivan, and his little sister,Lissi. Their father died a few years ago of a disease that they really dont understand to thisday. So along with a few gifts here and there, Ive put some of my time and love into thatfamily. This year, Erivan is my English student. Ive noticed hes a little bit of a loner. Hedoesnt really have a group that most kids in his class do. Hes not an outcast, but notexactly in either. I am starting to notice: I think he looks up to me. He goes out of his way toshow me that he is not one of the kids who likes to give me problems. He and his sistercome after school to find me in my office and see what Im doing. Believe me, no one elsedoes that. So, again. I give you thanks. Not only do I love my growing responsibilities, but you all havegiven me a chance to serve the community in a new way. You have given me the opportunityto get to know someone like Erivan, Lissi, and 500 more like them. I wish I could share thehugs and high-5s with you, but I have to wait for you to come to get that yourself. In themeantime, thank you again for the prayers and support. Please join in praying for me as Icontinue to expand and amplify my role here at Morning Glory. Thank you for giving me ameans to a beginning.Special Gifts & Sponsor-Student Communications at MGCSIf you would like to send a special financial gift for either Lori or a student, you areencouraged to notify Rob so he and Herb can double up to make sure the gift goes where itshould go in the timeliest manner. Schools andchurches take advantage of the week-long vacation to inspire their young people to missionwork. This year was no different. We started off the month with a group of men and womenworking with Casas Por Cristo to build a house for a family in need. The next week we hostedCyFair Christian Church from Houston who worked with the secondary students at MorningGlory, ending up their week with a day-long spiritual retreat. The same week we hostedDallas Christian college with Kingdom Week, Bill Groom from Compass Christian Churchwho preached in the church in Sacsuy and held a leadership conference for the local pastors, and Carrollton Christian Academy (CCA) who held daily Bible classes for the students. In theafternoon, Caroline Worley and other teachers from Carrollton taught four days of teacher 16. A group from CCA also built a house with Casas for a single mom with four childrenwho attend Morning Glory. At the same time across town in two different locations we housedand fed three other Casas groups. Needless to say, it was a very busy week. The followingweek, a group of dental students came with Dr. Bob from Dallas to attend to the dental needsof Morning Glory students. He even forced Miss Lori into the dental chair. Notice theoperative word here is forced, because believe me, it was not of my free will. The same weekwe housed and fed another Casas group in the Big House in San Raymundo. (The BigHouse, or Casona, as we call it, is a huge two-story house three houses down from myhouse that we had the opportunity to rent last year. It has six bedrooms, six baths, and twolarge great rooms. We stepped out on faith and rented it and we are working to furnish it as apermanent guesthouse for Morning Glory.) Holy Week, we rested from school but hosted agroup of fifty-plus young people from Northside Christian Church from New Albany. Wefinished off spring break hosting two more weeks of Casas groups. This next week we hostValley View Christian church with a womens conference and mens work day. Then we havethree weeks of break before the busiest summer ever. God is blessing and moving... this oldlady just has to keep up.We want to thank every person who has shared with us so far in this year of challenge. Eachone of you signed up to be the hands, the feet, and the heart of Christ to the brown-eyed kidsof Guatemala, whether it was teaching Bible class, working with teachers, ministering in thelocal church, mixing cement, building a house, or just playing with kids. And not only thosewho have been blessed to come, but the many who stayed home and provided the fundsnecessary for the everyday business of paying the bills and thus keeping the lights on atMorning Glory. By your choice you have become a part of the Morning Glory Story. Ourfamily just keeps getting bigger and bigger. Every action has eternal consequences and theharvest will be plentiful because of your faithfulness. What a reunion heaven will be!An AfterwordBy Herb Pinney 17. Our school is now accredited for the next 5years with no annual examination. We are very proud of Lori and staff for pulling thiswonderful award and acknowledgment off this past year.Along with the bands taking so many awards in local and national competition (note trophiesin below picture), we are still proud of Lori and her award as Teacher of the year last year.We are very glad to have Dean Pinney back in the saddle again after his close brush withphysicians knife and the morticians cold slab.
