President’s Message

I hope you are all sitting by a window with the sun shining in preparing an art piece for the upcoming Spring Show, or the Loft Gallery. Being able to produce something beautiful from your warm heart during this cold winter is truly a gift we should all encourage and appreciate.

Speaking of “gifts” – it is wonderful to have so many artistic friends creating with us, whether it be at the Drop In sessions, at the workshops, or on a shift in the Loft Gallery! Wonderful to hear laughter during our events, our drop in days, meetings in the Centre. We are truly blessed.

Thank you to Joyce and the Seniors’ Group for your show in the Loft during February. The March/April show is now up with feature artist, Erin Evans. Stop by and check that out.

Have you created your “favorite thing” for the Art Challenge? We will meet at the Centre on March 4 at 11 am to discuss all the creations ☺

Your Board is constantly seeking speakers or demos for the general meetings. If you have any suggestions, please email [email protected]. Thank you.

Mark your calendar for the upcoming Spring Show as it will be a new experience for many and an opportunity to appreciate the artistic abilities of our members. Bring a friend or two, support your fellow artists, and enjoy the Reception and/or the weekend of art.

Wow, we had 1,000 visitors to the ASSC Website in January! That's up, usually we see maybe 600 to 800 per month. About 50% of them are new, not a member and not a return visitor.

We say “Goodbye” and a huge thank you to Lorraine Nagle for her service and dedication to the Society over the past year, and we say “Welcome” to Leslie Hancheruk, as she takes on the task of training to be our Office Administrator/Rental Coordinator. I know our members will give you all the support they can as we work together to keep our Society up front and centre with visual artists.

Spring is still at least 2 months away so lots of time to paint up a storm!

Regards,Sonja

Interesting Facts about the ASSC Library!! Here are the numbers for 2019: 24 resources added to the library:

• 20 purchased • 4 donations •

Of these: • 8 were DVDs (though Christina tried hard to find more to purchase) • 6 were magazines – issues of International Artist • 10 were books

We had a similar number of borrowings as last year around 300 items in 10 meetings. That’s great!

Volunteers!

Volunteers are just ordinary people with extraordinary hearts...

....they offer the gift of their time to teach, to listen, to help, to inspire, to build, to grow, and to learn.

...they expect no pay, yet the value of their work knows no limit ...they have known the unexpected joy of a simply hug ...they have planted tiny seeds of love in countless lives

Volunteers are just ordinary people who reach out and take a hand, lead, and together make a difference that lasts a lifetime.
