Nobles and Ladies, it’sbeen a very busy Januaryand February. I want tothank everyone for com-

ing to Officers Installation Night. We had 151 Nobles,Ladies and guests in attendance. A great meal was en-joyed, including a fabulous salad served tableside bythe 2011 Potentate’s Aides. On Jan. 15th the Divan vis-ited Sabbar for their Potentate’s Reception in the after-noon, then traveled to the Apache Wells Shrine ClubPresident’s Ball, taking time to stop at home andchange into tuxedos. We won’t mention thelegal speed limit between Tucson andPhoenix.

Officer Orientation was the following Sat-urday with another great turnout. 45 Nobleswere in attendance and Asst. Rabban EdStolze did a superb job with his presenta-tion. That afternoon, 40 Nobles and Ladiesheard an excellent presentation by Past Po-tentate Michael Clevenger of Aladdin Templein Columbus, OH. Ill. Sir Mike gives his pres-entation, “Learning To Learn To Lead” at OrientalGuide and Asst. Rabban Schools at Imperial Head-quarters. I want to thank everyone who attended bothsessions.

Next was a trip to San Diego to honor Ill. Sir GeorgeAcuna at his Potentate’s Ball. All 5 of your ProgressiveDivan attended along with their Ladies, Mark and CindyLueck, Lady Jean Glover and Noble Bill McLemore. Thefollowing weekend found Ed and Cheryl Stolze, LadyValerie and myself in Los Angeles for Sam Pitassi andhis Lady Shelley’s Potentate’s Ball.

Super Bowl Sunday was a big hit at El Zaribah.Sponsored by the Director’s Staff, Young Guns and Teo-calli #16, fun was had by all both upstairs and down. While the Director’s Staff was showcasing their newlydecorated room with 3 new televisions, kids and adultsalike were partying downstairs in the Red Fez/FiestaRooms. Lady Valerie commented how wonderful it was

to see the diverse groups having so much fun. At onetable were several ladies playing bunko, over in the cor-ner the children’s games were going on and the rest ofthe crowd was glued to the game.

Next, we looked forward to the 1st OV of the year withthe Casa Grande Shrine Club. This was a great turnoutand at the conclusion, we continued to Yuma for a fun-packed Silver Spur weekend with the Yuma and YumaFoothills Shrine Clubs, joined by Al Bahr Shriners. The

weekend began with golf Friday morning, a Joint OVFriday evening, the Parade Saturday morning, Al

Bahr treated us with a chicken luncheon and thenwe held a Hillbilly Degree.

March will be equally full of fun things to dobeginning with the Chandler Parade, althoughseveral Divan members will be in Las Vegasthat weekend attending the Potentate’s Ballthere. The Motorcycles have their CookingContest March 13th and the Buckeye Paradeis the 19th, with El Dulabs holding their OV im-

mediately after. Apache Wells Shrine Club holdstheir annual “Pitchfork Fondue” March 24th, the

Patrol will hold a Past Captain’s Chili Cook Off onFriday, March 25th, and finally, the CIF BBQ is March

27th. I’ll dip just a bit into April by telling you to watch formore information on “Cigar Night” Saturday, April 2nd.Who was it that said, “If you’re not having fun, it’s yourown fault.” Come see us at El Zaribah. All the folks thereare certainly giving you the opportunity.

Bolo Tie Trivia - For those of you who don’t know, there’s symbolism to the black sheep seen on the apronof my Kachina bolo tie. During 1997, five motorcycle rid-ers became known as the “Black Sheep” around the Tem-ple: John Kinter, Steve Carroll, Lee George, JerryNiziolek and myself. We also made Ill. Sir Don Claxtonan Honorary Member. This small symbol on the 2011 bolotie is my tribute to those other members of the “BlackSheep.”Yours In The Faith, Tom Calvin, Potentate 2011“Havin’ Fun, Gettin’ It Done”

SEPTEMBER 9TH-11TH - SAvE THE DATE - HOSPITAL CARAvAN PLANNED

The Salt Lake City Intermountain Unit Hospital is one of the finest facili-ties in the Shrine Hospital System. This is your opportunity to visit and kick thetires, as they say, of one of the facilities we support. Make your plans now toparticipate in a Caravan to Salt Lake City and tour this beautiful hospital. It willbe your opportunity to meet with some of the staff, visit some of the adminis-trators and meet some of the finest young people in the world who receivetreatment in Shriners Hospitals for Children.

The trip’s being planned for Sept. 9, 10 and 11, 2011, a Friday through Sun-day trip. The plan’s to travel to Salt Lake City on Friday via airline, stay at theCrystal Inn, visit the hospital, meet some of the staff, enjoy good meals, hos-pitality and share fellowship with others from El Zaribah and Sabbar Templein Tucson. Yes, that’s right, Tucson’s making plans to travel with us and visitthe hospital.

Last year we did this trip and had a wonderful time. Nobles and Ladies fromAl Kaly Temple, Pueblo, CO and Ill Sir Steve Jordan met us in Salt Lake City.We had a great time, enjoyed swapping stories and meeting some of our pa-tients. Two patients joined us for dinner Saturday evening and came back tothe hotel and shared some hospitality with us that evening. It just doesn’t getany better than that.

Plans are being finalized, but we plan to fly to Salt Lake City on Friday.Transportation to the hotel, hospital and other venues will be provided. Thecost of the trip will include Friday evening’s meal, breakfast at the hotel iscomplimentary and we’ll plan a meal for Saturday evening. We’ll enjoy Sun-day breakfast then return to Phoenix. It’s a busy trip, but a very worthwhileone.

If you haven’t visited this hospital, this is your chance at a very minimalcost. More details will follow with all costs. Please watch your Arabian Talesfor further announcements and listen at upcoming meetings. This is a greatopportunity to take a test drive of one of the hospitals you support.

Noble Bill Wright will be spearheading the Caravan. As a Past HospitalChairman and Wagonmaster Emeritus, he knows how to put together a goodtrip. Make your plans now and please let Bill know if you plan to attend. Hecan be reached at 623-247-2318, to make your reservation.

2011 is just flying by and the Clowns are attempting to stay on top ofall the requests for them to be involved.

The Super Bowl Party was well attended and all appeared to have agreat time regardless of which team you were cheering for. The Pote’sBall and the party before the Ball were a huge success. The Clowns en-joyed the Party before the Ball and we hope all of those who attended theparty will want to continue with this new tradition.

While we Mason-Shriners already understand the enjoyment of beinga Shriner, it’s time for us to step up and start inviting our Brother MasterMasons to become part of the fun. I encourage you to get active in a localBlue Lodge if you’re not a member already and start attending your BlueLodge if you are an Arizona Mason.

Can you believe that 70.2% of El Zaribah’sMason-Shriners are over the age of 66 yearsof age? It’s up to all Mason-Shriners to stepup to the proverbial plate and start replacingthemselves once a year.

Just think about this - 1,701 El ZaribahMason-Shriners replace themselves just this

year and we can help extend our survival tremendously. I believe manyof us know of at least one Master Mason who’d like to become a Shriner, however I also believe we Mason-Shriners know two or more gentlemanwho’d like to become Master Masons.

Get involved, come on out to one of the Outpatient Clinics, there’s al-ways something you can do. Doug Fry aka The World Famous BB Clown (but my world IS kinda small)

Hi, Guys! We’re looking at some big things for the coming year with ournew Potentate Tom and his lovely Lady Valerie. Many things have beenproposed and all are sounding pretty good.

We’re holding our own but could use somenew members in all areas, so if you know ofanybody, especially the new Shriners whoplay or used to play an instrument, contactthem and try to stir up some interest in join-ing the Band. It will also stir them up for theShrine too. J.

Desert Chariots...

What a great time we had at our Super Bowl party. The new room re-ally was fun and the three TVs worked great. Big thanksgo to Orabelle and Dean Bulkley, Bill McLemore andJean Glover for helping with donations to make ourroom complete. We had the room full for most of thegame. It was fun to watch others walk in, settle downand watch the game among friends.

A second activity we’re planning is a Director’s StaffSteak Fry this spring. Alan Dye and others have formeda committee to get this going. Tickets will go on salesoon. As we said last month, we find that working together on fund-rais-ers is fun and makes the Unit stronger. Come visit us and see what wemean. By the way, Mark Lueck saw the fun and he’s our newest member.

Our next dinner meeting is March 23rd with social hour at 5:30, din-ner about 6:45 and the Unit meeting following. Everyone’s invited; bringyour Lady, kids and friends. Dinner is $10, prepared and served by theUnit. If you’d like to attend, please contact Leo Balthazor (602-740-5635)and he’ll make a reservation for you. A Red Coverall

Welcome from the Desert Chariots. Sorry it’s been awhile since we’vewritten a newsletter but we’re back strong.

Desert Chariots currently have nine chariots – seven are up and run-ning. Our group has the best looking chariotsin the United States and we’re proud of this.

The chariots have the privilege of carry-ing the Divan during a majority of the Pa-rades. After each Parade we come togetherfor food, fun and camaraderie.

We’re always looking for new members and can assist you with locat-ing your own perfect Chariot to drive in the Parades.

Come join us at our monthly meeting beginning at 5:30 prior to eachStated Meeting. Ladies are welcome.

We have a slow start for the coming year, as these articles must be inprior to much activity occurring. The early Shrine Stated Meeting and Unitand Club Officers Seminar were the major items that occurred. StatedMeeting Color Guard was Scrimager and John-ston. Other LOH Nobles present were Grimm,Hudson, Folker, Massey and Hagenian. Comdr.Scrimager, 1st Lt. Comdr. Le Clair and 2nd Lt.Cmdr. Grimm attended the Officers Seminar. Ad-jutant/Finance Officer Johnston was not able to at-tend due to his wife in the Hospital.

Peoria Masonic Lodge 31 donated a “scooter”for the hospital program. Cmdr. Scrimager andJohnston arranged for the delivery of this donation.

We’re apprehensive regarding the health status of 2010 Cmdr. Hornwho went back to Canada for medical treatment. Our best wishes areextended that he makes a full recovery.

The Legion of Honor Unit consists of Nobles who have served hon-orably or are currently members of the armed forces of their country. It’san honor to belong to the Legion of Honor Unit. You served your countryand now have the opportunity to serve the Shrine and have fun at thesame time. We lead the El Zaribah Shrine Parades, present the Colorsat Stated meetings and various other functions as requested by the Il-lustrious Sir.

Nobles, those of you with computers and access to the Internet canaccess the Legion of Honor Web Page at: http://members.cox.net/johnston30/ for information regarding Legion ofHonor Scheduled Functions. Eligible Nobles and their Ladies are invitedto check us out and attend our 6:00 pm dinner meeting held the 3rd Mon-day of the month. The business meeting is in the LOH Room at El ZaribahAuditorium at 7:00 pm each month except June, July and August. Scribe PC/Adj./Fin. Officer Virgil Johnston

...uniformed units...

Where did it go? It being the old red shirt that for many years was wornby the Greeters as part of their winter uniform. It’s been replaced by awhite mock turtleneck, sports jacket and a very attractive newly restyledname badge. It’s a change needed for a long time and one we’re sure willlend itself to our members continuing to be one of the best-dressed Unitsof El Zaribah.

Gone, too, is the white stretch Cadillac convertible that during pastShriner involved Parades became nearly as distinguishable and identifi-able as our uniform. The poor old girl’s been on her last legs, so to speak, for a few years now. Recently a safety check resulted in our finding allthe money invested over the years keeping her alive and well doesn’tcount for a thing - if we want to continue using her, it’s going to cost morefor current repair and future upkeep than we can possibly afford. How-

ever, it’s nice to know the person gettingour former “ride” is one who rebuilds oldcars and has a reputation for making themlook and run as if they’re nearly new. Weknow that’s what he has in mind for ourconvertible.

Our 2011 Unit Officers are Bob Richmond, Pres.; Larry Howard, 1st VP;Jim Rinehart, 2nd VP and Gregg Curry, Sec/Treas. It didn’t take long forthem to settle into their positions and address one of the first major ordersof business, this year’s social activities. As most are aware, our Unit’s re-cently shifted in membership strength. Although our size may not supportfuture social events as frequent as in years past, hopefully each will beplanned in such a manner that it will pique your interest and make youwant to attend.

In times past, one of our first events of a new year was our Valentine’sParty, followed shortly thereafter by the Greeters Past President’s party. This year we’ve decided to do things a little differently. Instead of two par-ties, we’ll be having just one. A few weeks after the Jan. Greeters meet-ing a committee consisting of Chairman Chuck Richards, Jim Rinehart

If you missed the February Parades, you missed some good ones. TheLaveen Parade was made especially enjoyable with the early morningbreakfast and lunch hosted by Noble Andrew as he’s done in the past. The biscuits and gravy were great.

Our small but mighty Unit continued to make a pretty good Paradeshowing by having 6 cars participate. We’d have had more but somemembers were ill, some worked or vacationed and an-other consoled his damaged wrecked car. In spite ofall that, El Dulabs managed to have 70% participation.

One of our members, Hal Wilson, was hospitalizedfor several days with some problems including pneu-monia. As of this writing, he just returned home to re-cuperate. We hope he gets well soon.

The El Dulabs are still looking for men who like to show off their carsby driving them in Parades and events. Just think…. if you have a car asold as you are, you’ll probably fit right into our Unit! OR if you’re youngerwith a classic/old car, we’d like to see you, too! You’re welcome to cometo our monthly meeting the 3rd Wednesday of every month. Howard Goldman, Pres.

el Dulabs...and Larry Howard met to pull together our first party of the year. As a re-sult, “Spring Spree” will be held at the University Club of Phoenix April22nd. It will be a relaxed gathering of members and friends enjoying anevening of excellent food, fun, live piano background music and offers asurprise finish when a lucky someone has their ticket drawn for the mys-tery prize. Look elsewhere in this issue of the Arabian Tales for more de-tails.

Lastly, a big THANK YOU to Ron Button, Gregg Curry, Wayne “Hawk”Hawkinson, Larry Howard, Bob Richmond, Chuck Richards and Jim Rine-hart for their participation and performance as escorts to the Divan andvisiting Nobility during the Feb. Stated Meeting. Looking sharp in thosenew winter uniforms, gentlemen!

The Parade season’s kicked off into high gear. The Oriental Band floatgot a new coat of paint (thanks Gene) and eventhough it was a little cold, we were at the 1st Pa-rade of the season in Laveen. Bob tried his handat dancing with a Golden Scimitar and the musetteplayers were in their class “A” ceremonial robes(they were warmer than the genie outfits). Theband marched in the Yuma Parade and the floatwill be in the Apache Junction as well.

We have a new prospect who’s decided to learnthe musette. Come on out and we can teach others as well - or if youprefer, join our percussion section. SC

What is the Samsar Award and how do I earn one?The Samsar Award was originally designed as a progressive award

to recognize Nobles for advancing our cause by bringing in new ElZaribah Nobles. It was expanded to include recognition to Nobles whohave taken an active part in the various projects and activities of ElZaribah.

The basic premise is that each Noble should strive to bring in a newmember each year. When a Noble top-line signs a Petition, he receives500 points (250 points for being a 2nd-line signer) that earns him hisbasic Samsar Jewel (Crescent and Scimitar). He continues to receive anadditional 500 points and parts to his Samsar Jewel each time he’s a top-line signer until he reaches the goal of 5,000 points and earns a full Sam-sar Jewel (Crescent, Scimitar, Rainbows, and Star with a Diamond in theCenter). Once the full Samsar Jewel is earned, a Noble will receiveCamels (Copper, Silver, and Gold) to put on his Samsar Jewel ribbon.

Using the guidelines above, it should take a Noble about 10 years toearn a full Samsar Jewel. Participating in various projects around ElZaribah Shrine and bringing in more than one member each year canaccelerate this.

The bottom line is the fastest way to earn Samsar points is to bring innew members to the Shrine.

Computer...

The Club meets the 4th Monday of each month at 7:00 pm exceptJune, July, and August. All members of El Zaribah and their Ladies withan interest in computing are invited to visit our Club meetings. Ladies at-tend and participate along with their Noble. Many of us meet for dinner inthe Red Fez room prior to the meeting.

We have computers for working with soft-ware problems and are able to troubleshootand make basic repairs. We have severalgurus who make their living with computerswho are invaluable for solving the problemsthat members bring in.

We’ve acquired and are in the process of loading some Microsoft TechNet software that will enable us to run all various Microsoft applications.

This is the place to bring your computers and/or computer problemsand find solutions or help in operating them. Enjoy the camaraderie of fel-low computer users. Don’t be shy about bringing your problem in for usto work on. Also a lot of good information is presented at each of our meet-ings. There are no dumb questions, as the answer to what might bethought dumb is what several members wanted to ask but were shy orperhaps had a problem expressing it. We spend little time with adminis-trative action and most talking or working with computers. If you have acomputer problem that requires bringing in your computer, don’t hesitateto do that.

The Computer Club has a Web Page that can be accessed at:http://members.cox.net/computerclub/

It can also be accessed from the El Zaribah Web Page link. The Com-puter Club Web Page contains links to other web sites that provide use-ful information for the use of computers. Check these links out and seewhat they offer. Virgil Johnston, Club Secretary

We mourn the passing of Harold “Bud” Sweet, Charter Member andFounding Noble of our Shrine Club. He suffered a long time on the dialy-sis machine. He donated his body to medical science at the University ofArizona. When his ashes are re-turned, there will be a memorialservice at Community Presbyte-rian, 3450 Chemehuevi Blvd.,then a Masonic graveside burialat Havasu Memorial Gardens. All Masonic Brothers and friends are requested to attend these services.

Mobile Nobles...

At the December meeting of the Mobile Nobles Shrine Club, they re-viewed their fund-raising activities for the year. While being a Club madeup of mostly winter visitors, they work hard to raise money to support ac-tivities at the Shriner’s Hospitals. The primary fund-raising activity involves

the recycling of aluminum. Contractors fromthe area drop off their salvage from remodel-ing jobs in the area. The Nobles removeglass, screens and other materials from olddoors, windows, siding and other items tosend the scrap aluminum to the salvage yard. They also receive generous donations fromseveral of the mobile home parks in the area

where patrons donate their aluminum cans. The Mobile Nobles collectthose cans from the various parks, sort through them to remove any non–aluminum cans and bag them in preparation for transport to the recyclingstation. At the current price for aluminum, the work pays significant divi-dends allowing them to be quite generous with the regional hospitals.

With December being a time for giving, the Mobile Nobles becameaware of a project at the Salt Lake City Shriners Hospital. The hospitalwas looking to replace the television sets in the patient rooms. The costto replace a set in a room was $575 each. The replacement sets wouldbe flat screens with in-bed remotes and DVD players. After a short dis-cussion, the Mobile Nobles voted unanimously to support this project. They even went so far as to vote to underwrite the entire cost of the proj-ect and provide funding for the replacement of televisions in all 22 rooms.

The donation of $12,650 (photo at left) was sent to the Salt Lake CityHospital right around Christmas. What a great Christmas gift they pro-vided to make the stays of our patients just a little better. While the workto recycle the aluminum is a tough job, they all agree that having themeans to give back is truly special. Supporting projects such as this helpthem stay active and support the philanthropy of Shriners International.

Nomads...

Do you fellow Shriners have an RV? If you have a motor home, traileror 5th wheel, come out to one of our upcoming camping trips. We were

just in Gila Bend (Southwest of Phoenix) forour February camp out. This is a nice smalltown and the people there are great. We ateout two of our three nights. (That keeps theLadies happy) The RV campgrounds had fullhook ups and a great meeting hall.

March 17th – 20th, we’re going to WhiteTank Mountain County Park. We reserve a separate group area. Whiledry camping, it has a Ramada, bathrooms and a beautiful view of westPhoenix at night. You can follow hiking paths or visit the Waterfall. TheWildlife Zoo is close.

April 14th – 17th we’re headed out to Lake Pleasant. We go to thecamping area on the Southeast end of the lake. It’s a great area again, with full hook ups. It has a great view of the lake. Bring your boat andfamily to enjoy the lake. We again have a Ramada.

From May 1st – 8th we really have a great Camp Out planned. We’regoing to San Diego, CA (right on the Bay). This campout’s held by theSan Diego Shriners. They reserve half of a really big campground. Thereare hundreds of Shriners/Campers there. They come from all our westernstates. There are things to see and do every day and night, if you wish. They have it all organized. Just the bay tour of the aircraft carrier (madeon the last trip) made the whole trip worthwhile to me. This is a Gotta-GoTrip!

Yavapai County...

“A Riding Tiff Lawn Mower” The Yavapai County Shrine Club had their 1st General Membership

meeting in Jan. 2011. We had the great fortune to have a guest speakerwho knew one of our Past Potes very, very well. You might say she hadthe inside scoop on this Past Pote. Please fol-low along…

The speaker, Mrs. Dina Mountcastle withhusband “PJ”, started the presentation with alittle history about herself. She’s the youngestof 3 girls and her father’s none other than Ill.Sir PP Doug Kurbat. Dina stated whenyounger, she and her sisters had 8 - 9 dutiesthey were responsible for and on one particular weekend, they were alloutside doing their respective tasks. Their father had rented a riding tifflawn mower and was riding on it doing the lawn. When advised he had aphone call, he got off the mower to answer. When he returned he askedin a somewhat loud voice, “Where the H—- is the lawnmower?” It wasnowhere to be seen. Everyone then took a look in the pool - and low andbehold, there it was at the bottom.

Dina stated her Dad turned into something like a raving maniac shout-ing expletives, none like she’d ever heard before. They found out laterthe neighbor was having a church gathering next door and this was thecause of many heads peaking over the fence. (They were able to rescuethe riding mower - PP Ill. Sir Kurbat can tell you how he managed thatfeat)

Dina continued her super presentation regarding her bout and experi-ences with breast cancer, her faith, prayers and family. “Thanks”

...Ladies Organizations & Noble of the Month...

Naomi, Drina & Jackie at yuma

Our March meeting will be on Tuesday, March 15th. For reference, Ineed to make this point. We won’t be able to have lunch at the Templeon Tuesdays. So we’ll have a “brown bag” lunch (bring something fromhome, or pick up something en route), for this month, then have our meet-ing, at which time we’ll decide what we want to do or where we want togo for lunch in the future. I’m sure the Ladies will all have been called butjust in case you didn’t, this is the message.

I do hope you all received a call, or if a message was left, this is themessage, and you won’t be deterred from coming. PP Jack Garrett willbe visiting us with some up-to-date message regarding the Temple.

Please, I hope all the widowed Ladies will read this message and lookforward to hearing where we’ll go next month or possibly change ourdate. Come help make this decision, everyone’s opinion is most impor-tant. Aramel Club

Aramel...

Greetings from Sphinx Court #65, Ladies Oriental Shrine. This will bemy last article as High Priestess of Sphinx Court. Our new High Priest-ess will assume her office in April.

It’s been such an honor to represent our Court and to tell you all aboutour “doings.” As I’ve said so many times before, if your wife or significantother isn’t a member of LOS, you and she are both missing a great op-portunity to have fun together and do so much good. And we give HERsomething to do when the Nobles are out and about and we’re not in-vited.

This past year’s been a whirlwind of activity – we started off by creat-ing our LOS Cooks! cookbook – we still have a few for sale so be sure toget yours before they’re all gone. We had a Steak Fry in October, a StyleShow in February and we traveled to Houston, TX and Ontario, CA for ourmeets – all on top of our regular meetings and fund-raisers (and parties).Plus we joined in and helped our Nobles in most of their stuff. We had awonderful time!!!

We send our deepest sympathy and prayers to all who have lost lovedones and wishes for a speedy recovery to those of you, and yours, whohave been ill.

Thanks for the memories! Lady Linda DuBois, High Priestess 2010-11

NOBLE OF THE MONTH - JUNIOR GRIMM

We’re proud to have Noble Junior Grimm as our first 2011 Noble of theMonth. A function around the Temple or oneof our Parades isn’t complete without see-ing Junior serving as either a member of theProvost or Legion of Honor.

Junior was born in Waterloo, Iowa andjoined the Navy at 17, serving in the SouthPacific during WWII as a signalman. He re-tired after 42 years in service as MasterChief and is now a member of the Fleet Re-serve. In 1950, Junior joined the WaterlooPolice Dept., where he eventually becameChief of Police.

Junior married Margaret (Peg) in 1946 and they have 5 children. They’ve enjoyed 55 years of marriage together.

His Masonic career began in Waterloo in Blue Lodge #105; he wasraised a Master Mason in 1954. He’s a member of York Rite - Ascalon inIowa, the Scottish Rite Valley of Iowa and El Kahir Shrine in Cedar Rapids. He’s received 50-year pins from both his Blue Lodge and Kahir Shrine.Junior also serves as an El Zaribah Ambassador.

Junior and Peg came to Arizona in 1982 and he became an AssociateMember of El Zaribah at that time. His Shrine memberships include Ori-ental Band, Clowns, Motorcycle Unit, Legion of Honor, Provost and Mo-bile Nobles, where he served as 2010 President.

Junior’s done so much for El Zaribah in his nearly three decades as amember it’s an honor to have bestowed the title of “Shriner of the Month”on him. Tom Calvin, Potentate

2011 Parade schedule...

As part of our obligation when we became Shriners, we pledged to visita Shriners Hospital for Children. Visiting one of our hospitals is a very re-warding experience and one you won’t forget. Visiting one of our Out-reach Clinics is just as rewarding. To have the opportunity to meet someof our Shrine patients and witness their courage as they face their indi-vidual challenges is a very positive and uplifting experience. These chil-dren are very remarkable and I encourage each of you to visit one of ourOutreach Clinics at the Maricopa County Medical Center.

At the writing of this article we’ve completed two Outreach Clinics thisyear, one from our Salt Lake City Hospital and one from our LA Hospital. We’ve already seen approximately 120 patients. At these Clinics, our doc-tors conduct both pre- and post-op appointments as well as see new pa-tients entering the system.

For some of our patients, Clinics are “old hat” as they’ve gone throughnumerous operations and are used to the drill. For others, the Clinics canbe a stressful time, but our children always have smiles on their faces, es-pecially when they see the Clowns.

I’d like to recognize Nobles Art Nehill and Mike Richards as our vol-unteers of the month for January and February. Both of these Nobles areusually at the front desk to greet our patients and their dedication ensuresa smooth operation. Jim Miller, PP, Hospital Chairman
