Fast Checks for High-Value PartsGain Full Traceability and Right Counts

When manufacturing precision parts, zero-error production is mandatory. As binder

precision parts knows, comprehensive traceability of all process steps as well as hav-

ing the ability to securely lock equipment is mandatory to avoid misuse.

Exact bulk countsAfter producing the turned parts, binder

ships them to a specialized supplier for

surface treatment. When treated parts

return, binder uses a counting solution

to check the parts for completeness. The

operator then divides the parts into pre-

defined lots using the counting solution

and places them into transport boxes for

further internal processing.

A processed batch could include 10 000

to 100 000 pieces or more. For a ship-

ment of 200 000 pieces, each lot totals

1 000 parts, for example. Exact bulk

counts at this stage are essential to effi-

ciently execute additional work steps for

such large quantities.

Networked solutionMETTLER TOLEDO installed a high-pre-

cision reference scale to detect piece-

weight deviation at such high numbers.

To determine the average piece weight,

the scale weighs the reference weight

and divides it with the number of refer-

ence parts, which is 10 to 30 pieces.

During completeness checks of an en-

tire order, the scale prompts the oper-

ator to reference pieces again to keep

the piece weight accurate throughout

the process. The software has been

customized in detail to lead the opera-

tor through the whole process, and by

indicating each working step ensuring

the next step does not commence until

direction is received.

Installed prospective optionsThe application provides an option to

connect to the ERP system via open-

software architecture. This helps binder

by having all data available in one sys-

tem more quickly and easily. The direct

connection to ERP enables data pro-

cessing from one source for fast 24/7

production planning and continuing

process analysis. Full traceability of or-

ders thorough the shop floor is essential

to provide customers with requested in-

formation. Further, fulfilling storage reg-

ulations of data from one source is eas-

ier to depict and more secure due to zero

transcription errors.
