EXECUTIVE SUMMARYMammoth Technologies (Mammoth) is a Design & Manufacturing Corporation within the Mining and Drilling Industry, which has created a dynamic presence in the local and international market over the past 16 years.

The Drilling Industry is a unique niche market and competition is fierce.

Mammoth specialises in the Blasthole Drilling sector with a collection of patented products securing an advantage over competitors and the flexibility to “Go the extra mile” allows Mammoth to compete against the biggest industry role players.

Innovative drilling products and drill consumables, Mammoth has successfully started to tackle the global market. Our customers seek our expertise and products as it provides them with a point of differentiation through our simplistic view of innovation.

By leading through innovation, Mammoth knows it is an ever changing mining environment and we need to stay ahead to solve problems, this is done by continuous improving on our service and pushing our products to achieve its maximum value.

Mammoth’s products are driven by safety and productivity, with a focus on planned maintenance. A synergy between maintenance and drill consumable management is very important to be fully productive and to achieve maximum value.

Mammoth also has the unique ability to be able to make prompt decisions and at times over night changes to products so as to boost performance or to adapt to a given situation on the day.

All materials are sourced and imported by us and utilised in our in-house manufacturing plants situated in eMalahleni and Rosslyn, Pretoria.

The management team, and our staff, believes strongly in our ability to transform the way business is done, products supplied and indeed, to go beyond all expectations.

HISTORY

LOCATION AND LONGEVITY

The Company was founded by the Gouws Brothers and Tyrone Crook on 27th April 1999, a small, privately held manufacturing company, which is approaching its sixteenth birthday.

Initially a company based in Richards Bay, Kwazulu Natal, the operations moved to Witbank Mpumalanga where its head office is presently situated.

MAMMOTH BEGINNINGS

Japie Gouws, a Drill and Blast overseer at the time became aware of a considerable safety hazard when witnessing unsafe practices, while disengaging connected Drill Rods from one another.

He then realised the need for a safe efficient Breakout tool, to loosen/ breakout the high torque on used rod joints.

Japie approaching his brother, Pierre, who at the time was a project designer and manufacturer for a paper production company, decided to tackle the development of a safe and easy-to-use Breakout Wrench.

After the initial designing and manufacturing of a prototype unit the first test was conducted. The result was astonishing and lead to what is today - 9 years later, known as the Mammoth™ Breakout Wrench.

The Mammoth™ Breakout Wrench has since evolved into a leading tool which has drawn attention to our major sales drive of ‘Innovative Simplicity’ within the global market. With the success of the Mammoth™ Breakout Wrench, the designing and manufacturing of a complete product range specifically focused on the Blasthole industry was developed.

An industrial property earmarked for the manufacturing of drill consumables was purchased in Rosslyn, Pretoria during 2008/2009.

Our products came about as we addressed the necessity in the market for durable, cost effective products, designed to improve ease of operation, simplify maintenance and most importantly improve safety.

MEMBERSHIP PROFILE

PIERRE GOUWSAt 53 years of age, Pierre’s practical engineering background combined with a good measure of innovative genius, has enabled him to design and develop several successful and emergent international patents. Pierre’s involvement is not limited to innovation and development, but his experience in manufacturing and streamlining production is also of great value. This includes optimizing designs of products for cost-effective manufacturing. Pierre’s management style is hands on with a keen focus on values and emphasis on relationships are very evident in his business dealings.

Pierre started in the gold mines as a boilermaker artisan and later moved on to Richards Bay where he worked for a construction company and became involved with numerous specialized design and manufacturing projects. More recently Pierre was involved in Mammoth Rod where he started a successful and prosperous drilling consumable manufacturing company. He initiated the manufacturing of consumables like rods of various diameters, Kelly bars, deck bushes, stabilizers, crossover subs and shock subs and he developed and patented a rod repair process on behalf of the company. Pierre’s ability to design, engineer and manufacture with excellence was a key driving force in the company.

TYRONE CROOK At the age of 55 Tyrone owns and runs several successful businesses in Australia. Tyrone holds a trade qualification and studied further and obtained tertiary qualification.

Tyrone started his first company in South Africa in 1993 supplying components to Toyota South Africa, then in October 1994 he started IC Engineering Africa Pty Ltd which focused on industrial baking companies. IC Engineering Africa reconditioned bakery equipment back to EMO specifications.

Tyrone moved to Australia in 2004 and started a company called Pulse Technologies. Pulse has several subsidiaries dealing new equipment sales, Auditing, Training, state of the art Condition Monitoring, Lubrication and Specialised Coatings.

Our human capital is our biggest asset; we pride ourselves in our commitment to promote black empowerment with our BEE certification number 006865.

The 82 employees that make up our current team are taught to take ownership of their workplace.

Our employees are exposed to a wide variety of skills and are OEM certified. All manufacturing (including process manufacturing) are done in-house as each employee has a crucial role in the manufacturing process of each product.

Mammoth™ Breakout Wrench - The fully patented Mammoth™ Breakout Wrench developed to meet the requirements of a hand free Breakout Wrench for all conditions and any OEM drill rig.

• The Mammoth™ Breakout Wrench was designed to address:• Tight joints found in the drill stem• Wrench - slip when loosening drill rods, hammers and bits• The lack of a compatible Cross platform Breakout Wrench• Unsafe Breakout procedures

• Mammoth™ Shock Sub – The Mammoth™ Shock Sub was developed to absorb shock loads experienced during the drilling process.• The Mammoth™ Shock Sub was designed to address:

• Mammoth™ Hole Sweeper - The Mammoth™ Holes Sweeper was developed to prevent the occurrence of chippings falling back into the hole during the drilling process.• Mammoth™ Hole Sweeper was designed to address:

• Clogging below deck on the drill rig• Chippings above the hole being forced back down• Time lost due to slowed penetration rates• Increased wear on drill string consumables• Standing time due to tripping because of blocked holes

• Mammoth™ Drill Rod - The Mammoth™ Drill Rod is an addition to increasing the length of the Drill Bit depth to extend drilling penetration.• Mammoth™ Drill Rods:

• Mammoth™ Deckbush - The Mammoth™ Deckbush is used for the purpose of stabilizing the centre of the drill Rod.

• Mammoth™ Top Crossover Sub | Bottom Crossover Sub - The Mammoth™ Top Crossover Sub is used between the rotary head or shock sub and drill rod. The Mammoth™ Bottom Crossover Sub is used between rod and the drill bit.

• Mammoth™ Stabilizer - The Mammoth™ Stabilizer is used to stabilize the drill bit in the hole while drilling. Rock Bits are designed to rotate about their own centre, stabilization assures that the bit will do this and cause the energies and forces exerted on it to be most efficiently utilized in an axial direction. Dull conditions of bits give evidence of this effective stabilization.

• Mammoth™ Stemlock - The Mammoth™ Stemlock is designed and manufactured to lock the drill string securely, enabling the breakout of the Drill Rod and Bit.

• Mammoth™ Bit Breakout Pot - The Mammoth™ Bit Breakout Pot is used for the purpose of breaking the Drill Bit loose from the Stabiliser or Bottom sub, our design allows for easy operation and removal of Tricone drill bits.

• Mammoth™ DTH Hammers – The DTH hammer consists of a sleeve with a piston inside, which when it receives air from the compressor through the rods, causes the piston to move up and down inside the sleeve at a high frequency hitting the striking face of the drill bit which causes it to penetrate into the rock.

• Mammoth™ DTH Bits - With the rotation of the hammer and in turn the drill bit, induced by the rotary drive box, causes the rock drilling action to function.

• Mammoth DTH Hammers – The DTH hammer consists of a sleeve with a piston inside, which when it receives air from the compressor through the rods, causes the piston to move up and down inside the sleeve at a high frequency hitting the striking face of the drill bit which causes it to penetrate into the rock.

• Mammoth Tricone Bit – This drill bit has tungsten carbide buttons designed for drilling in harder materials. The bits crush the rock by means of pressure and rotational movement, air is used to remove the chippings from the hole.

MAMMOTH SAFELOCKMammoth SafeLock is a safety device designed to disable the vehicle’s ignition system, while stop blocks are placed behind the vehicles wheels.

An electronic circuit disables or enables the ignition of the vehicle, depending on whether the stop blocks are under the vehicles wheels (disabled ignition) or whether the stop blocks are mounted to the safety device (enables ignition).
