R.E:
Prayers: Please join us again on Monday at 10am for our second video assembly available in the Catholic Life of the School section of the website. In this
assembly we will reflect on how we meet with Jesus today at Mass, in both the Liturgy of the Word and the Liturgy of the Eucharist. Daily prayers for the rest of
the week are available and can also be accessed in the Catholic Life of the School section of the website. Why not join in at 10am every day?
This week we will begin our new topic - ‘Transformation’ (Pentecost - the celebration of the Spirit’s transforming power)
Lesson 1: Introduction to Holy Spirit
Christians believe that the Spirit of God is active in each person and in a special way in the community of believers, which is the Church. It is the work of
the Spirit to enable people to hear God’s message, to respond and share it. The feast of Pentecost is a celebration of the gift of God’s Spirit and its
transforming power.
Jesus appeared to his disciples a number of times before he ascended into Heaven. The Holy Spirit was sent to the disciples to help them to continue
Jesus’ work and spread His message around the world.
Watch the video below to learn more about how and why God sent the Holy Spirit:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OMQKy1Mx49M
There are many symbols to represent the Holy Spirit. Watch and read the powerpoint attached below:
https://www.twinkl.co.uk/resource/t2-re-645-ks2-symbols-of-the-holy-spirit-information-powerpoint
Your Task:
Create a piece of art using one or more of the symbols of the Holy Spirit. You could use the examples below to inspire you. It could be a drawing,
painting, collage, book mark, 3D model, or even origami! Follow the link below to make an origami dove: https://young-catholics.com/205/make-an-
origami-dove/
Send us a photo of your wonderful creation on j2Write or email the school!
Lesson 2: On the road to Emmaus
Immediately after the Resurrection of Jesus from the dead, the disciples were unsure and uncertain of the significance of what had happened, until they had met with Jesus who
helped them understand.
Interactive clip of the Road to Emmaus: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8rdlQ99Cb-g
This story from Luke illustrates that:
Key Questions:
Q Why did Luke describe the disciples as having ‘faces full of sadness’?
Q What do you think the disciples meant, and what were their expectations, when they said ‘the Promised One who would set Israel free’?
Q How did Jesus help the disciples understand what was happening?
Q What was it about the ‘breaking of bread’ that made the disciples recognise Jesus?
Q How did the disciples feel when they recognised the Risen Christ?
Learning task:
Design a storyboard to show what happened on the road to Emmaus. Annotate the images to show you understand how the disciples knew it was Jesus when they reflected on their
experiences. (We will attach a template that you can use to complete this)
SCIENCE:
● You have activities allocated for Electricity on Bug Club!
What is electricity?
● Electricity is an energy. This energy can be used to power electrical items such as toasters, kettles, cookers, televisions and computer tablets.
● Electrical energy is caused by electrons (the particles in atoms) moving about to make a current.
Lesson 1:
Learning intention: Current and Voltage
Prior learning recap: Go through the teaching PowerPoint on Circuits and Symbols. (This will be uploaded)
Activities as you go through the PowerPoint:
● Circuits: What is a circuit? What parts do all circuits contain? Can you draw a circuit which includes a bulb? All children draw a circuit containing a bulb.
● Circuit Diagram: Reveal a correct circuit diagram. How close is your drawing to this one? What did you miss out? Is there anything about this circuit diagram you don’t
remember or understand?
● Battery or Cell? State that they will be learning the scientific symbols for parts of a circuit in this lesson. Explain that there are different drawings for ‘battery’ and ‘cell’ and
highlight the differences between them.
● Scientific Circuit Symbols: On the presentation, you need to match the informal and scientific symbols used to draw circuit diagrams. Show the correct symbols.
● Circuit Symbols Memory Test: All circuit symbols are shown on the Lesson Presentation. You have one minute to memorise them.
● Scientific Circuit Symbols Challenge: Go through the Scientific Circuit Symbols on the Lesson Presentation one at a time and write your answers down on scrap paper. How
many did you get right?
Main learning for today’s lesson:
● Go through the PowerPoint presentation on Volts. (This will be uploaded)
● Watch this clip about current and Volts mentioned in the slides: https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/clips/zvy7tfr
Activities as you go through the presentation:
● Current and Voltage: Watch the BBC video about Current and Voltage. Write notes about the main points related to current and voltage.
● How Many Volts? Examine a range of different batteries and check the number of volts each one supplies.
● Labelling Volts: Look at the circuit diagram with the volts labelled. Think about the location of the label and how to label a battery containing multiple cells, as opposed to a
single cell.
● What Difference Do the Volts Make? Make predictions on a scrap piece of paper about what will happen to a bulb, motor or buzzer depending on the voltage of the cell or
battery. What difference would you expect (e.g. bulb will get brighter, it will increase in brightness, the brightness will stay the same).
● What would happen to an electrical appliance that requires 3V if it were powered by a 5V cell or battery?
Lesson 2: Research based lesson
Learning intention: The different forms of energy
Electricity can be created in a variety of ways. You are going to try and answer the questions below whilst watching a clip about the different forms of energy.
Key questions:
● How is energy made?
● What are the different types of energy?
● Burning fossil fuels (oil, gas, coal) at power stations, using wind power generated by wind turbines, using solar power generated by the sun and using water power (sometimes
called hydropower) generated by running or falling water.
Task:
● Choose one form of energy and find out how it works, what it needs, what it provides and how it provides energy. Is it sustainable?
● How does energy affect the environment?
● Are there alternative forms of energy that are not as damaging?
ART:
This week for Art we have provided a couple of tasks for you to do based on our topic of Leonardo Da Vinci.
Task 1:
Make your own Leonardo Da Vinci Glider Paper Model:
Leonardo Da Vinci was quite the inventor and made designs for several machines that were actually made centuries later. Try one of your own by making a Da Vinci inspired glider model. Just
print, cut and fold according to the instructions.
https://papermau.blogspot.com/2014/02/leonardo-da-vinci-glider-paper-model-by.html Scroll down and clip the link and then print!
OR
Alternatively, why not design and build your own glider? Get creative :)
Task 2:
Make your own Leonardo Da Vinci flip book:
I will attach the printables as a document for you to print. Or you can make your own!
What will I need to create an interactive flip book?
● Free Leonardo da Vinci Flipbook printable
● scissors
● stapler
● glue stick
● colored pencils/crayons/markers

MUSIC:
Learning intention: How instruments produce sounds and sound insulation
Task:
Sounds produced by instruments
You are going to be listening to the different sounds that instruments make and seeing if you can identify and describe the sounds.
Choose three instruments to listen to from this selection of instruments: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yh_gXf_VK9g
● How is each sound made?
● What is your favourite instrument?
● How do the instruments produce the sound?
● Can you describe the sound they made?
● Watch this clip about the different sounds that instruments can make: https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/clips/z8s9jxs
● What did you learn from it?
Step 2: Sound insulation
● How can you make a sound louder or quieter?
● Why is stopping sound important?
● Watch this clip about the volume of sound: https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/zgffr82/articles/zqtdpbk
Task:
● You are going to plan a test to measure or observe how well different materials muffle sound (links to Science)
● Read through this teaching presentation: https://www.slideserve.com/liam/which-material-is-best-for-muffling-sound
Things to consider:
● See if you can find some of the following materials- bubble wrap, towel, foam, blanket. You will be testing which material is best at muffling sound.
● Which material will do the best job? Why?
● How will you make fair comparisons of whether the sound is muffled or not?
● What sound source will you use?
● What equipment will you need? How will you test it?
● How will you ensure your results are reliable and fair?
● How will you record your results?
● Are there any instruments that can be used to measure sound levels?
● What did you find out? Did that surprise you?
PSHE:
● Mind Up – This week we will be focusing on: Mindful Seeing
● Mindful Seeing sharpens your focus by using one sense to purposefully observe an object.
1. Watch the video below:
https://mindup.org/mindup-lesson-5-mindful-seeing/
● Look at the ‘Mindful Seeing’ activities in the ‘MindUP’ section on your class page on the school website, and choose some to complete this week.
● each day remember to complete 2-3 Brain Breaks for 2 mins each time. Give your brain a rest and focus on your breathing.
