MAJOR RETAIL PROPOSALS IN GLASGOW INTRODUCTION 1. Purpose and Contents The purpose of this schedule is to provide details of planning

applications for major retail developments in Glasgow which are completed and operational or recently closed, under construction or the subject of a current or recent planning application. Retail developments are divided into four categories: food stores, retail warehouses, mixed retail developments, and retail developments within the City Centre. For each category, there are up to four tables listing details of the relevant developments distinguishing between larger and smaller developments:

TABLES A - Developments, over 1,000 sqM for food and

2,000 sqM for non-food, which are completed and operational or recently closed.

TABLES B - Developments, over 1,000 sqM for food and

2,000 sqM for non-food, which fall within all other stages of development.

TABLES C - Notable developments, under 1,000 sqM for food

and 2,000 sqM for non-food, which are completed and operational or recently closed.

TABLES D - Notable developments, under 1,000 sqM for food

and 2,000 sqM for non-food, which fall within all other stages of development.

The tables are updated every six months (31 March and 30

September), taking into account the progress of each proposal.

2. Table Headings The tables contain ten columns, headed thus: Ref No: corresponds to the table entry. Application Number: the planning application reference

number allocated to the application when it is registered. Applic Type: the acronym used for the various types of

planning applications submitted is as follows: F: Full O: Outline LBA: Listed Building Application AR: Approval of Reserved Matters AMD: Amendment of existing consent DA: District Approval RTL: Renewal of Time Limited Consent V1: Variation to existing consent CofL: Certificate of Lawfulness Delete: Deletion of conditions on existing consent S50: Subject of a Section 50 agreement S75: Subject of a Section 75 agreement Location: the address and/or general location of the

development. Description: details of the type of development within the retail

category concerned. Gross Retail Floorspace (sqM): the gross retail floorspace of

the development in square metres where this is known.

Applicant/Occupier: the applicant as shown on the planning application form and/or the retail operator where this is known.

Decision: the latest relevant decision by the planning authority

or the result of an appeal. Date: the date of the issue of Decision Notice. Progress/Comments: usually concerns the stage of progress

of the development. 3. Category of Development As mentioned previously, retail developments are divided into

four categories. The following paragraphs deal with each of the categories in greater detail.

Food Stores (Tables 1A, 1B, 1C and 1D): Details of major

stores primarily for the sale of food and convenience goods which fall outwith the City Centre. As well as current planning applications, all existing food stores are included. Food stores are subdivided into two categories: ‘Food stores' with a gross retail floorspace of less than 2,500 m² and 'Superstores' of 2,500 m² and over. Stores in the last category frequently have a proportion of their floorspace devoted to non-food sales, although food sales remain their primary function.

Retail Warehouses (Tables 2A, 2B, 2C and 2D): Retail

warehouses, or 'Large Non-Food Stores' as they are sometimes known, consists of both single free standing units, and clusters of units offering a variety of outlets. Groups of 3 units or more are termed retail (warehouse) parks. Retail warehouses typically deal in household goods such as DIY, furniture, carpets, electrical and auto goods, although some operators also trade in fields such as toys and footwear.

Mixed Retail Developments (Tables 3A, 3B, 3C and 3D): Developments which do not fall exclusively into either of the above categories are termed 'Mixed Retail Developments'. This description covers, for example, shopping centres and complexes containing a wide variety of outlets, often including a food store, or developments where food stores or retail warehouses are juxtaposed with each other or with other forms of retailing. Existing shopping centres constructed during the past twenty years or so are included, but City Centre developments are excluded (see below).

and 4D): Due to the intensity of development in the City Centre, retail proposals there are listed separately.
